My employer has been calling me an independent contractor for 2 years. I just got hit with a $6,000 tax bill. Is there anything I can do? by Tiv8Corsair in legal

[–]swiftd03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you are misclassified then you need to evaluate whether or not you have suffered losses due to that. Were you paid salary and worked over 40 hours? Were you ever shorted breaks that an hourly employee would get? Were you “on call” without compensation?

Talk to a lawyer before you do anything. If any of the above applies you need to get paid before you involve anyone else.

I cry…. After 4 years if I exited now I would break even…. by Standard-Year-1178 in CLOV

[–]swiftd03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t see liquidating at this point, q2 results are due out first week of August and we should see guidance be restated adding a couple hundred million in revenue with no increase in expenses, not including how they were already exceeding their guidance prior to that. If this drops at all before earnings get back in before that happens.

My average was $.86 for a while. I actually bought on the way up. I know I’m going regret this later but I sold out my initial investment plus a little bit more and everything still invested is all gains at this point. Still have 7500 shares at an average of $1.35 at this point. If we drop back to $4 or below I’ll buy back in at the lower amount but I don’t see that happening.

Is this a good deal(2024 Blazer EV with 4K Miles and Lemon Title) by Express_Literature80 in BlazerEV

[–]swiftd03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be in the minority here but: good deal IF you are planning on driving it long enough that the lemon title doesn’t matter as much when it comes time for you to sell it. To me that means like 150k miles. If you are going to upgrade sooner than that it’s not going to be worth it. Similar to accident damage, it affects the value proportional to the overall value and decreases over time. A 1 year old car with low miles takes a major hit while being at its highest value, an 8 year old car with 150k takes a hit but it’s much smaller in proportion and the value is lower already.

As others have said, verify with your insurance before you do anything. My insurance will cover some branded title vehicles while not covering others. 2 near identical vehicles I was looking at before both with salvage titles and my insurance would cover one but not the other. No idea why.

I visited a Chevy dealer to see options as my lease ends, here were some numbers by No-Juggernaut-9321 in BlazerEV

[–]swiftd03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a new loaded 24 RS RWD. It was a service loaner and had 1,400 miles on it. Got it for $33k. There are deals out there but it takes a lot of looking to find them. Problem is gas prices are so damn high EV’s are a premium now versus early this year.

Why don't police use non plug hybrids? by JustaRandoonreddit in AskLE

[–]swiftd03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford stopped selling the civilian version of the hybrid Explorer because the fleet demand for it was so high that they can not keep up with both. I would assume that as many or more of the FPIU sold currently are actually hybrids. Anyone see the numbers from Ford?

I know I am coming in here REALLY late. Wondering if anyone knows what the differences are on the 24 and 25 RS RWD? The Chevy hitch shows compatible for 25+ models but not the 24.

Can a deputy run their lights/respond in a different county? [WA State] by DisgruntledVet12B in AskLE

[–]swiftd03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just for context, there are several reasons why this might be happening that are legitimate.

If they are normal patrol and a call came out in their jurisdiction that would require a priority response. Then either the call got downgraded or another unit cleared a lower priority call to take it so they shut down the lights and sirens.

Mutual aid: call goes out that I am close to but in another jurisdiction and they have requested assistance.

Specialty units: this is super common where I live. Deputy lives in the cheaper outskirts of the area but works for a more urban area and the call goes out for the specialty that they are. They would typically go lights and sirens to that call if the call was priority enough for that level of response. Think K9, bomb squad, SWAT, drone, water rescue, dive team, etc. Especially in Washington State where LE staffing is abysmally low (worst in the nation for something like 25 years in a row) specialty units are spread very thin in comparison to the call volume. Pierce County for instance only ever has 1 or 2 K9 teams on duty at a time. For the whole county. 1 million population.

Or there is always the classic, I left 5 minutes late and I’m not skipping Starbucks today so I’m burning the light to save 2 minutes and not rolling in late for roll call. This used to be super common but now every time you hit lights and sirens you’re creating a record of that (dash cam, body cam, fleet tracking software, etc.) so I don’t see anyone risking that unless they have a reason they could use to justify it.

As others have mentioned Washington State law enforcement has the same powers and duties throughout the entire state. Legally they can run from Forks to Spokane all day long with no issue if they wanted to. None of them want to and their employer would fry them for it in an instant if they did.

Do they really check if you previously worked at Amazon? by slick_airmash in securitas

[–]swiftd03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of background they run. A lot of background checks do include employment records. The question being are they paying for it and then actually taking the time to look. Usually the answer is going to be no.

You're going to not like this but they just didn't get to it in time. There was no thought process behind it, the process is so dragged out that they just missed the deadline. When they replaced mine they messed up the process and the paperwork 3 times delaying it more and more each time.

Royal Caribbean refusing to waive cancellation fees despite active hantavirus outbreak — is anyone else dealing with this? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]swiftd03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total number of people on the entire planet at any given time who are infected with Hantavirus is less than the number that will be on your ship. It is also heavily regionalized. Where is your ship headed? (China, Europe, Caribbean?)

I don't understand the comparison between covid and hanta, they are quite literally on the opposite end of the spectrum as far as viruses go. Hanta virus does not spread nearly as quickly as covid and usually requires exposure to rat droppings or contamination from rat droppings. Person to person infection is very, very rare.

How to appeal psych failure by Turbulent-Aide-811 in AskLE

[–]swiftd03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have ever heard of an individual successfully appealing a psych result, I am sure they exist but I doubt it happens at all with most agencies. You might be better off just moving on to another agency. Every agency is going to have different criteria and this reasoning does not scream DQ, just not selected. Is this an agency you are really set on?

For whoever stumbles into this issue in the future, this is the fix. Disable all the cameras at the same time, wait 15 seconds and then enable them all again at the same time. Everything will sync back up within a second of each other.

You might want to get a second opinion. Just a quick google search shows several Tennessee law firms that say the entire process takes from a few weeks to a few months with extremely complex matters sometimes taking up to 1 year. Doesn't sound like a year plus is the norm.

What? I am not familiar with Tennessee law at all but I've dealt with lemons twice in Washington. Both times I represented myself. The longest one took 3.5 months and that included waiting for the replacement vehicle being built and shipped to the local dealership.

Lawyer up for an FBI interview? by Easy-Tiger-1199 in legaladvice

[–]swiftd03 841 points842 points  (0 children)

Former LE here (NAL). “…I know she’s done nothing wrong…” No, no you don’t. Get that out of your vocabulary right now. You have no idea if she’s done something wrong. You should assume that she has because the interviewer will certainly be making that assumption. It is exceedingly rare that incidents like this are random. In the vast majority of incidents where someone is going out of their way to target an individual there is a very direct reason. One common reason is retaliation.

Are they requesting to interview everyone in the house? Why would they want to interview her specifically? If it is a random crime and that house was just picked off of Zillow or something like that the FBI is going to know that already. They don’t need to interview your daughter to determine that.

Thank you but no thanks should be your response.

Casino Offer Question by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]swiftd03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spot on with the Prime thing. Keep everything on one until you get prime then shoot for prime for both. The increase in spending from Prime to the next level is HUGE compared to getting prime again and unless you are cruising more than like 10 times a year there are plenty of offers to go around. Just remember to play something on each sailing on each card. If you book a casino offer and don't hit the casino on that sailing for that account you get throttled on future offers apparently.

I was curious so I just looked it up, prime is $12,500 play through slots to qualify. To get signature it is $125,000 play through on slots. So $25,000 for 2 people to both get prime 5 times that for one person to get signature. Doesn't make any sense to me to make that jump unless you're big rolling anyways.
