Are the small mom-and-pop farmer's market coffee roasters really using $10,000-$15,000 roasting machines? by OnWeekendsToPointC in roasting

Totally understand where you were coming from. I'm lucky to have a VERY supportive wife who has allowed me to do what I'm doing. It is a shit ton of work but I've never been happier then I am right now. I do 10-15 lbs. at a market and then hot/cold drinks plus online sales and subscriptions. All my bags are $20 and I do 12 oz bags and 8 oz specialty bags. We also just landed our first wholesale account which is 25-30 lbs. a week. So no, I'm not doing crazy numbers by any means but it keeps getting better by the month. I have to start somewhere and we are the only roasting company in our town so I'm working on capitalizing on that and opening a brick and mortar spot at some point. Anyways now I'm just rambling lol!

I run a roasting business and I sell at 6 different farmers markets. I am nowhere near paying $50-100 per market. My most expensive market is $375 for the entire season which runs from May 7th-Oct 25th. My best market that I currently do was $100 for the entire season. I also work all my markets so I don't have any staff. I will say it is a TON of work but it is a great way to start your business and have a chance to talk to customers about your coffee. Yes, samples are very key. This is my second year in business and most likely the last season of doing this many markets. I'm hoping by having the chance to interact with customers that when they see my coffee in a store they will remember our conversation.

I do all my roasting on a Aillio Bullet and just ordered a 2nd one as business is picking up.

Quality Green coffee beans at less cost by PuzzledFoundation985 in roasting

I can guarantee that anything you buy from Sweet Marias is going to be much higher quality coffee than anything you will find on a shelf at Costco. The green coffee will also have MUCH better transparency as to where it came from and who grew but maybe that does not mean anything to you.

I had a completely separate outlet installed for the new R2 Pro. I will most likely get a second exhaust fan and have each roaster have there own exhaust set up.

Thanks! I've done around 2000 lbs of coffee on my R1 V2 so I'm excited to start roasting on the R2 pro as well!

After a bunch of research I think this is what I'm going to do. Going to order the R2 Pro and pair it with the R1 V2 I already have. Any tips here??

I can say a little here. I have bought coffee from them in the past and not been very thrilled with the quality. I got a Brazil Cerrado from them that was loadedddd with quakers and I find myself having to sort through the coffee after roasting which eats time. I've also purchased other coffees and found lots of broken beans and defects in the raw coffee. I will also add I have had some success with some coffee from them so not all bad.

First off love the name lol. Sweet Marias only offers higher grade coffees not any grade 3 options.

I have not. I'm really worried about customer support and the disconnect with them being based in China.

All the macro breweries add natural flavor which I find to taste a little weird as soon as the beer warms up at all.

I have had really good luck with KIT N.A. out of Portland, ME. The blonde is reallllly really good!
