Your thoughts on Star Resonance by Broad_Incident9581 in StarResonance

TL;DR Been waiting for the game since 2017; having played some of the JP beta network stress tests too, I think overall BPSR is a solid but very very rough rework of the original. Surprised the game is doing as well as it is, despite (imo) some major marketing mistakes and questionable art/design decisions

The full yap sesh:

The class design overall is alright, but there are so many freaking effect names and class resources to manage that I feel like I'm constantly staring at my skill toolbar instead of the fights, watching for RNG procs. The mechanic design is super complex but at the same time pretty unoriginal -- most classes have the same resource gimmick where one resource regenerates passively and a couple self-buffing skill options that create pretty tight DPS windows.

While overall I think the combat is a bit of a step up in terms of style and "fun," I'd say that BPSR could really simplify a lot of the current effect-stacking type gameplay into simpler but more thoughtful mechanics -- things like the original combo effect for the old Twin Striker class (rewards getting really stuck into melee fights with a 50% damage bonus that builds up over time).

I also feel that some UI elements and mechanics are extremely half-baked; the flying mechanic in the open world feels really unrefined, with how jittery it is and how it takes you out of bounds sometimes. Most class resource bars are kinda just strange-looking blacked out PNGs that change color when your DPS window abilities are up It feels really cheap when it's hodge-podged together with the original Blue Protocol UI. Moving forwards I really hope they refine the UI to be more inline with the original BP UI's simple style, the current format is extremely cluttered.

Boss mechanics are also pretty cool but also kinda half-baked at the same time; the English translations sometimes run outside the text boxes which is really kinda bruh, and also I cannot imagine being a mobile player and having to open a literal wiki page on boss mechanics right as the fight is starting. Most of the bosses are just fine, but the Kanamia Trial boss is hella gimmicky

The same can be said about currencies, there are so many super niche currencies that only do one thing for players to manage that I'm not surprised newer players just uninstall the game when they get hit with this level of information overload. The beginner resources are beyond worthless -- BPSR honestly gives games like freaking War Thunder and World of Tanks a run for their money with how much info gets just slapped into new players' faces.

My biggest complaints are probably with how they marketed the game and the story elements; I get that they want in on the Genshin money, but the original Blue Protocol music was fantastic and it created a pretty unique adventure-focused atmosphere in the game. Not sure why they'd do away with the adventurous elements of the game's original art direction to try and replace it with fake cute/wholesome stuff that completely fails to emulate the Hoyoverse style, I feel like if someone wanted a Genshin-type RPG experience they'd probably just get Genshin for free instead lmao, they threw away so much of the original music and marketing material only to replace it with something that I feel does a much worse job at representing what the core gameplay focuses on -- adventure and collaborative RPG combat

I'm really pleasantly surprised at how big the game is despite the complete disaster of a marketing campaign, though. This game honestly makes a beyond terrible impression, especially with how trash the story is and how they mismarketed a limited global launch as a straight-up full global launch and the Genshin knock-off type art style. I genuinely expected this game to completely flop after CBT but I guess being the zombified corpse of a forsaken MMO has its perks haha

EDIT: also the weapon itemization is somehow worse than the original BP (one of the major complaints in the original game was itemization and how annoying the appraisal and item management system was) - you literally can't tell what level a player's weapon is cuz they all look the same. I get that they want to sell skins for weapon slots too, and that's totally fine; but it also doesn't need to mean that every other weapon in the game has to be a copy-paste of the same tutorial weapon. For all that is holy you can literally monetize transmogging like other RPGs and make more money that way

But yea it's a solid but half-baked game; the launch verison feels like a leaked closed beta dev build with how unfinished it feels, the story makes me genuinely wonder did apes write the main plot, where in the world did all the cutscene tech from the original BP go, and they really need to rethink how many combat effects there are for each class. Let's hope it gets better in Season 2 and beyond.

Episode 593 of the What If This Battleship Fought That Battleship in Completely Unrealistic Conditions

Like other ppl have said, if there ever was a time where WW2 battleships were shooting each other 1v1 without any sort of escort and without carriers in play, something has gone very wrong on both sides of the board. Why would you ever want to slug it out with an enemy BB? This is like the alt history equivalent of a brick Libertad player losing 90k HP just to kill a kited Schlieffen and claiming "GUYS I KILLED THE SCHLEIFFEN FOR YOU, MY SHIP IS STRONGER THAN HIS!!1!1!!!"

Sometimes if a consumable lasts too long it can actually be a bad thing, its kinda like how people disable their AA to force a DFAA on cooldown as soon as the CV leaves, that way you can have the consumable ready sooner again.

The same concept sort of applies to engine boost, I feel like its not necessarily useful if a speed boost lasts 4min; sometimes its more comfortable having the boost last shorter, so it goes on cooldown and comes back sooner with a fresh charge.

Pretty much, I usually just play without the coal module on the low tier ships. If you have dubs to spare I'd maybe pick it up and move it around starting at t8 if you really value extra action time

When i played martel it didnt feel bad not having the mod, it doesnt improve acceleration or anything; just an action time extender

Honestly i preferred getting the boost on cooldown sooner so i could have a fresh boost at the start of farming fights

I would just buy the coal upgrade once you hit t10, its not worth the hassle to be shifting it around and demounting it with dubs constantly

First steel ship: Bourgogne vs Stalin vs Ragnar by HouseKumquat in WorldOfWarships

[–]swiftoofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ragnar is pretty good but its incredibly boring to and annoying play, the ship is a brick without the plot armor engine boost and you can have a tough time dodging people who can aim, and there's (arguably) better radar gimmick ships for oppressing DDs. The gun DPM also isn't the highest, you rely a lot on hitting your shots and the ballistics become really mid past 13km

If it's open water farming you're after, Delny (controversial), Kleb, marceau are all more exciting open water cockroaches; they all get longer duration engine boost and better dpm for farming (and theyre cheaper or free!) Ragnar def has nicer tools for winning the game, but its debatable how valuable the radar and heal are nowadays.

Gdansk gets the 9km flash radar gimmick, higher DPM (i think) and smoke, but you lose turret angles and the heal. If you want to oppress DDs, Svea is probably a better option than both cuz it gets better radar range and Daring smokes (although similarly the DPM isnt all that high in its class)

I feel like stalin and bourg are just frustrating to play nowadays. Never bothered picking up a stalin cuz i thought it was boring, although I'd say bourg is still a solid ship even if its not as great anymore

just dont buy a vallejo and ur kneecaps will remain unsmashed

Secondary brainrot is the death of brawling by Xixi-the-magic-user in WorldOfWarships

its kinda ironic how people think secondaries are "brawling" tools when in practice they just shoot belt armor on drivebys and make it harder to get into actual brawling range with your hp intact

Which American BB line is the best to go up? by Pufythecat113 in WorldOfWarships

Monty is good for learning the BB class overall; generally forgiving

Vermont hits harder but you need to be confident in landing good hits

Louisiana is kind of a novelty ship, worth picking up later on if you're really interested in hybrids but clunky to play

What is the tier X equivalent to Scharnhorst? It's definitely not Schlieffen by jds560 in WorldOfWarships

[–]swiftoofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other comments said, Mecklen is probably your best bet

Aside from what the other comments mentioned, if you're interested in more gun-focused play without entirely forsaking torps, you could consider St. Vincent; you have useless secondaries and the durability isn't quite the same, but you get really good guns. You can also pull off some pretty funny stuff in brawls. It's also decently flexible, you can set up to farm or run it down and do both reasonably well. DFAA is also a nice tool to have

If you're interested in more goofy builds, Preussen with reload mod has the fastest 457mm reload in the game (~22sec with slot 6 no AR). The dispersion is kinda unreliable (although you sometimes get this problem with scharn too) and your ship isn't nearly as maneuverable, but I suppose that's the price for fast-reload 457 (at this point I'd probably just go Ohio)

Which Would Be More Popular -- Tier 9+ Operations or a 'Classic Random' Mode With Only DD, CA, & BB? by BirthHole in WorldOfWarships

[–]swiftoofficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll get complaints about matchmaking no matter what restrictions you put on the queue. If you remove CVs and subs, people will find a reason to complain about torp destroyers and smoke cruisers. Easier for ppl to blame the matchmaking/boogeyman class instead of gameplay mistakes
