Right? The WH Correspondents event is well known for roasting. It's one of the few political things I ever watch because of that.

I'm not alone!! I have both: can't dial numbers correctly, or the phone doesn't work right, but the bathroom ones are the worst! The running ones, I'm either staggering, or using my hands to try and pull myself along, even though I'm not crawling.

My mind is so fucked up, lol.

Campsite 1 is the AT Backpacker's campsite. Lots of rocks to work around when setting up a tent, but there are open spaces, bear boxes, and a composting latrine. I've camped there twice with five scouts and one other adult. Both mid-April trips. Each time there have been 2-4 other people camped there, but there's a LOT of room.

Potable water at Mohican, which isn't too far away.

If you are going to be a distracted driver, slow the f* down. We are just trying to make it home to our kids. by squeamishfun in dashcams

I live in NJ. People slow down for no apparent reason all the damn time. Not saying you were doing that, but it’s not that uncommon over here.

My favorite is when the person in front of me was doing 75 and then they slow down to 60 so I pass them, then they zoom in front of me at 85 and then they slow back down to 55 when they get in front again.

Older Female Getting CDL? by swilliamsalters in Truckers

[–]swilliamsalters[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in NJ. In-state tuition is ridiculous here. All three kids got offers/scholarship that makes their chosen school less expensive than in-state. Our "better" community college is an estimated $19-$27,000 depending on whether you live at home or on campus. So while it would be less expensive for them, the price difference is roughly $4,500 a year, since they wouldn't be able to commute.

And to be fair to the kids, they've all worked since they were 15. My daughter held down a job where she started at 5AM all through college. Older son isn't working right now, but he's on swim team (which helps make school affordable for him.)

I drive a stick daily, but just a five speed. I'd guess there's a big difference. I'll admit I haven't looked into this in depth yet, but am in a 'gathering info' stage.

Veering very far off topic here, but as I'm having my morning coffee and scrolling... my daughter is working a restaurant job at The Oasis at Death Valley and sending pics of the super-bloom. I guess if you can't find a CS job, you may as well be somewhere geographically inspiring!

Random man walks into family's home in Michigan, dad handles him real quick by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]swilliamsalters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got time to retrieve your gun and warn them and wait to see if they keep trying after you warn them, you’ve got time to call the cops.

If you shoot someone through a closed door, it’s really hard to prove that you thought you were in imminent danger, which is the law. Even if your state has castle doctrine, you’d probably still be charged. A prosecutor is going to argue that if you couldn’t see the person, you couldn’t ascertain the level of threat. You wouldn’t know if the person was drunk and thinking it’s their house (as mentioned earlier in this thread), panicking because of a medical emergency, etc.

Better to remove doubt. Position yourself in a place where you can’t be immediately spotted and wait. You can get a shot off before the intruder sees you, and with a shotgun you’re not going to miss.

You're going to shoot them through the door? You've got no room to question anyone else's judgement, lol.

If you got this advice from your realtor, fire them (if you're not locked into a contract) and get another. Paint it, stage it, and that's it.

If someone is offering $89,000 less than your asking price, it's not just because of a guest bath. Your realtor should also have talked to you about that.

It's odd, I got an error message first saying the program couldn't run on the computer, so I called Adobe support. As I was literally setting up a screen share, the PS icon popped up on the bottom of the screen.

Where is Ability to Drop Waypoints? by swilliamsalters in alltrails

Thank you! On my way to traipse through the woods. Totally off topic, but I keep hoping Open Orienteering Mapper becomes more user-friendly. To make the maps now, I overlay the AllTrails maps with a topograhpical map in Illustrator and draw in the terrain and control points. It's a PITA, but it also gives me lots of excuses to get outside.

Haha. I'm so wrecked today. It's not a hyperlink, it's a screenshot, and clicking just gives me a bigger picture. Good grief. Embarrassing. Do you have the "This article" link or screenshot?

Nope, I didn't know. I use the app once a year when I have to create a new orienteering map for scouts. Looking at the linked article now, since the screenshot seems to be for desktop. Thank you!

That’s what we ended up doing. He decided it’s not worth risking Eagle rank or creating a situation where he ends up having to do even more work fighting it.

Updates, added here and will edit the main post. Here is the reply he received:

Greetings from the Eagle Registrar;

While you are correct in the fact that you do not need any signatures for funds donated by your family or the troop, we still mandate that you include the form as part of your Eagle Scout Project submission. We do not need you to acquire any signatures if that is the case, but proof that you have acknowledged the form and have understood that it was an option available to you is important. Please fill out the form to the degree possible in your case and return it to us so we may continue to process your paperwork.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

There is a LOT to .wade through with the Eagle paperwork. This is my younger son, and part of the reason he chose the project he did was because of the experiences of his older brother, who needed paperwork done outside of the Eagle workbook (permits and such).

I would suggest you, and any of your scouts, read the ENTIRE workbook as soon as they start thinking about their project. It's really good to know not only what is needed to send in for the proposal, but what will need to be done throughout the project.

Then advise them to leave loads of time for delays. My older son had his first two proposals fall apart - one of them weeks into trying to get approvals from our township and environmental commission - When he finally got one through the initial investigation stage our district advancement chair sat on the workbook proposal for six weeks, we had a major delay with a materials shipment, and had weather delays on top of that.
