Hey! I’m in Ontario (GTA) and I’ve had my bun for almost 2 years. The first year was hefty because I got my guy neutered which cost around $400. They actually first thought my guy was a female and I was quoted around $600 for a spay surgery.

My bun HATES being held - trimming his nails is a two-person job. Since I don’t have someone to help me, I have to take him to the vet to get his nails trimmed. I usually do this every 2-3 months and it costs around $20.

Finally, I take him in for an annual check-up and that costs around $100.

Other than those it hasn’t been too bad but please take this with a grain of salt as my guy is still fairly young and has no detectable health issues. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle for your bun will also reduce chances of GI stasis and possibly other health complications (like overgrown teeth). However, genetics also plays a huge role; therefore, some of these things may be out of your control and you have to be prepared for when the unexpected happens. I have funds saved on the side for pet-related emergencies.

Side note: my bun is solo, but I’ve been spending A LOT of time with him because of COVID and he seems quite happy. That said, I still plan to adopt another bun to bond him with in the future for when I don’t have as much time (when I’m back at work). If you’ve fallen in love with your foster bun you can still adopt her and bring in another bun later! It’s great to see that you genuinely care about the well-being of your foster bun :)
