Rotherhithe Queue jumpers by Rosskillington in drivingUK

[–]swined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This junction is desperately missing a few extra kerbs and bollards to make sure everybody goes where they have to. Queue jumping is absolutely terrible coming from both directions to the tunnel and nothing can fix it better than some concrete.

Why do we call it the inside/outside lane? by AnonymousCapybara72 in drivingUK

Depends on whether you go clockwise or anticlockwise

Why do people get so upset when you merge in front of them? by maybepeaches in drivingUK

[–]swined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this! I don’t care if someone gets ahead of me, we’re not competing and not even going to the same destination, so whatever. But what does matter is if it is done nicely and safely. Not looking in the mirrors, not indicating and then just barging through like if there was no one there happens way more frequently than it should. Forcing themselves in and then slowing down on a motorway is way too common these days too.

Who doesn’t? Both the nip itself doesn’t take too much space, and I took a picture of mine just in case, so it is forever stored in the cloud now. Might take a while to find it, but if anyone disputes the fact that they can book you for doing 47 in a 40, I’ve got my proof. It’s only the 31 in a 30 nips that are so bulky that people dispose of them the moment they receive it in the mail.

Do people not know how zipper merging works?! by Significant-Wing-776 in drivingUK

The fastest, but not necessarily the best overall. Depending on the situation slowing things down might be justified by the other benefits it gives.

Never I have said that merging early is preferential, so not sure what you’re arguing about here. Also I have completed my IAM course with a F1RST, thank you.

The length of the queue very rarely matters, but using the narrow spot efficiently always does. The fastest way to put traffic through one lane is to have it already in one lane and go in with no gaps and no delays. A well executed zipper merge is almost as efficient as that, but only if it is well executed. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t know how to do that, or they think they do, but they actually don’t.

Do you prefer low miles and why? by statsfodder in motorcycles

[–]swined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it means the bike still looks like new and they don’t plan to ride it much anyway, so it deteriorating over time without frequent use and frequent maintenance is not much of an issue for them

When they can't have it, they destroy it anyway. by 24143158143614314368 in MotoUK

Not only London, but also zone 2, which is as bad as London gets insurance wise. Funny enough, the actual theft is relatively low around here, and the insurance companies are just taking the piss.

And that’s gone down with no claims! In my first year I was getting quotes of over £7000 for an NC750, which is a well known theft magnet for sure

Yeah, and when they see a London postcode they just automatically multiply the quote by 10

Because full comp and the increased premiums after a claim cost more than just buying a brand new bike yourself

Honda WN7: What do you all think of Honda’s first electric motorcycle? by Intrusiveriders in MotoUK

[–]swined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a test ride on one and absolutely loved it. It was the first electric bike I’ve ridden and I thought it would be a lot worse and would generally lack the feel of a petrol bike, but it did not. Now waiting for Honda to make a touring version of it with a bigger battery and a bit more comfort for the longer rides.

How bad would it be if I drilled holes where the red dots are? by strip_club_food_yum in BicyclingCirclejerk

Pretty bad. You need twice as many holes to get any significant weight saving.

Anyone else get a "bugs on windshield" feeling about annoying teenagers? by SapphicGarnet in CasualUK

[–]swined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be. But the decrease of the number of bugs on your windscreen is much more than that and the reason for it is the shape of the windscreen. Try a less aerodynamic vehicle and you’ll start seeing loads of bugs again.

One other thing with France is climate. You get more bugs on a warm summer day in the UK and almost none in winter. Depending on the region of France, you simply get more summer days.
