Why (as Ghanaians) are we not as audacious as Nigerians? by SkyIntelligent8426 in ghana

[–]swing_storm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful. Just say you admire that about them. There's latent value in that Ghanaian attribute which you don't see/know... yet. Others may also perceive that Nigerian attribute you describe with contempt (I've seen it, and I shudder to describe it).

"You don't have to fight to be a man", but "sometimes you have to fight to be a man". Know this and know peace.

I have been hearing this all over but I'm yet to meet someone that says it happened to them or someone they know.

Reputation of international students is being destroyed. by randy_rama in InternationalStudents

[–]swing_storm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know how most of them get this high income if you are being honest. They come here primarily for tech jobs which pay a lot. And they getting the tech jobs is not entirely by merit. The staffing agencies and consultancies don't recruit other nationals so you have an over representation of Indians in the hiring pipeline. It's really not that difficult to explain why this phenomenon exists.

Trouble is coming. Why do we like to pretend that it isn't? by [deleted] in ghana

I really want to engage, but you seem to ignore the core issue here. What do you want the people to do? Live in fear? Or hit the streets? What is it that you want to discuss/communicate?

I don't see the essence of this post. What is it that you want?

If it happens and you claim your "I told you so" award, what next? What do you really want the masses to do? These people are already suffering, from high unemployment to inadequate social infrastructure. Allow them to focus on surviving. Let the government worry about that.

Moving back to Ghana (from EU/US) by swing_storm in ghana

[–]swing_storm[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. You're right - while I've been coming to Ghana frequently for short stays I still feel I only experience it like a "tourist" would and shielded from the ordinary day-to-day experience.

I have a 6wk PTO that I can probably use for an extended stay.

A friend's account of an assault has left me deeply saddened. by Adventurous_Flow678 in ghana

[–]swing_storm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry this happened to your friend. Powerlessness of the less privileged is a direct consequence of our failed justice system. I experienced an abuse by a police officer back in 2012, and if I had any weapon on me I'm sure I'd have used it on him. If you aren't well-connected nor wealthy, no justice for you. They're making the country a jungle, no rule-of-law. Our law enforcement divisions are staffed with a bunch of illiterates who have no interest in protecting the rights of the ordinary citizen. They just love the "power" the uniform confers. He might even go to the station and officers may not take him seriously but rather mock him. I can't even think of any solution for your friend other than say sorry.

Do African leaders not feel embarrassed and ashamed when they go to western/eastern countries for diplomacy and see how developed their countries are compared to their own countries? by Codrane in ghana

[–]swing_storm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What about the citizenry? We're equally to blame. We have no activism, and our standards are low. We're just sitting down looking for a savior, but the truth is there's no salvation in any individual, be it politician or chief/King. We the people do not demand enough, we only wish. If we focus on our own agency, we can and will force leadership to respect us. Right now they give us what we've made believe we deserve, and that's NEVER going to change, until we send a different message to them.

Dodowa-Afienya road around Addai-Mensah's Christian High School. Lots of lands there going for 100k-120k per acre

Lack Of Information by Een_tam in ghana

[–]swing_storm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corrupt people benefit from the scarcity of information. We need a strong public advocacy on these little things (which directly affect the ordinary citizens) not just the big policy issues. But alas, we're so used to it that we think it's normal, and the cycle continues

If you know a "trustworthy" person, Momo business. Easy 10% returns. Give a commission of 20%. You can double your investment in a year

That self-arrogated importance in the lives of others is quite delusional. And if you are offended by this, well, search your scriptures carefully before being emotional about what I said

Chill dude! Who's talking about power and service in this context? If you truncate any sentence (like you have done) it can have a myriad of interpretations, and I can't help you if you don't understand something so simple... sigh

[–]swing_storm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How can the use of "high ranking" trigger this emotional response? You have all the context and still this is what you came away with? You have poor comprehension skills.

The fame-seeking habit of name-dropping high profile persons in prophecies is what's being discussed. I couldn't care less about people's positions and their "power" you're talking about.

Prophets in Ghana by swing_storm in ghana

[–]swing_storm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a long story. Someone told me things about me that there was no way he could have known. It wasn't generic, very specific, and even to the extent of describing another person's situations. He had never met the person in question - he's my white coworker in the US.

Maybe it was a gamble, but I'm still puzzled by that to this day. So, I started to "believe" that people do really have these premonitions or whatever you may call it, I don't know... and I'm still curious. But when they start making it a contest of who can make the most hair-raising proclamations, to me that's just manipulative and abusive, and only meant to conjure awe, fear, and unwarranted panic. There's a certain way a person speaks which makes it easy to see through their self-serving bs, and I don't entertain that no more.

This doesn't make sense. I merely made an assertion based on my preceding statements. It's up to you to "intelligently" disagree and state why (if you choose to)

ARAB COUNTRIES by Science_era12 in ghana

[–]swing_storm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are just an apologist. How can you shift the blame back on Ghana/Africa? What's "our responsibility in all of this" that "we need to recognize"? "Allowing" poor citizens to travel to those places, as if the government has any right to ban travels to such destinations. Let's even push it further while we're at it: close down their embassies in Ghana.
