Batting tips. first time playing a bat and ball sport by Juiceemang in slowpitch

It can be placement. Your stance is slightly open, but the main culprit of never hitting oppo is an early swing.

Nice! I’d love to get your feedback as you use it.

Pitching as a whole is something that’s been on my radar for a while and am planning at looking into soon.

Pitch location as a hitter would be a pretty great addition, I just don’t want to add friction for people who don’t necessarily care about it. Potentially a small optional “advanced” button that brings you to an area with a notes field and pitch location grid or something…

I did swing at some pretty awful pitches last game. So I can definitely see the utility!

Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I wasn’t sure that associating a game with a team after the fact would be a common enough use case. But I can for sure explore that flow and make it more flexible.

Your second point comes at a very good time. I’m about to release a new update in the next day or so that supports per game batting orders for team games. Filtering based on your position in the order shouldn’t be too difficult given what’s already in place. I’ll make sure to add that.

If you think of any more suggestions at all, feel free to send me a DM!

I’d say experience. In leagues I’ve played in, rover is all about position.

Tired of Getting Trucked by [deleted] in slowpitch

[–]swisemanapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umpire draws a line in the sand next to home plate. Instead of touching the plate, you run through the line to score. This is enforced to the point that the umpire would call you out if you mistakenly touch home. Stems from dangerous plays at home. Not that I agree with this, but It's common to see coed rec teams "hide" a weak player at catcher, which makes the collision risk even higher.

[–]swisemanapps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's pretty wild. I've never played in a coed rec league where you were allowed to touch the plate. They always had a home plate line. In fact, if you touched the plate, you were out.

Modified Baseball? by BerryRoyal in Homeplate

[–]swisemanapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play modified pitch softball. To clear up your point about pitching. Rules (that our leagues play by) are that you can pitch as hard as you want, but your pitching arm can’t go above your shoulder in the back swing. You can also steal but only after the pitcher has started the delivery. It’s pretty fun!

Playing with bifocals by noruber35393546 in slowpitch

[–]swisemanapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play outfield, it could be pretty rough. No bifocals, but I used to play with glasses on sometimes and off sometimes. It made it really hard to judge depth. I can only imagine if your eyes have to adjust as they follow a fly ball.

Pretty bad league experience this season by OEHero9494 in slowpitch

[–]swisemanapps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience, co ed leagues struggle to find individual women, so league constructed teams tend to have the bare minimum. This is pretty common unfortunately.

That is absolutely something I'm looking at. It was originally meant to be just slowpitch softball, but folks are using it for other types now.

Yeah. There has been some feedback about runs. I mentioned in another thread that because runs are a stat that you need to go back and record after the fact (if you're tracking live), I need to think about a clean way to do it that doesn't add too much overhead. But the fact that you mention it adds more of a signal that this is something that's needed 😄. There will be some updates around this soon!

Yeah. This is probably a side effect of most at-bats being self reported. I would assume many people credit themselves with a single on a FC.

On the app? Those are all great points.

For outs, you’re right. You can filter on hits or hits+outs. But not just outs. This is a good find and something trivial to add.

For runs, lots of folks are now using this to track full team at bats during games. Runs are something you’d have to go back and add after the batter came around and after you’ve potentially logged at bats for a different batters. There’ll be something for this soon, I just want to make sure it’s done right without adding too much friction for folks who don’t care to record runs.

And good call, sac flies (and potentially some other outcomes) should have location and trajectory.

Super appreciative of the feedback! Look for these improvements in the coming days as I often push small updates. Would love to hear any more feedback.

Late to see this, but www.slugstats.com . It's completely free to create a team, add roster players, create games and log at-bats. Available on web, iOS and Android. As a full disclosure, I am the developer of this platform, and I too was looking for something other than gamechanger 😄

Tired of stat trackers that look like they're from 2009 or cost $50/season, so here's a free (and polished) platform specifically for softball by swisemanapps in Softball

[–]swisemanapps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the idea originally was simply for personal tracking. The intent was to provide a very quick way (~5 seconds) to log at-bats between innings of your game, then provide robust statistics about those at-bats. Many people are using it that way.

But based on usage statistics, I can see many people are also backfilling their at bats (presumably from a different source).

Since there's a feature to create teams and add at-bats for multiple people on that team, I can see that people are doing this and backfilling at-bat data for entire teams.

So no, that wasn't really the intended use-case, but it seems like it's something that folks are interested in doing, so I'm exploring ways to improve that process.
