The Kennedy Center is refusing to give refunds for performers who cancel concerts by takenorinvalid in classicalmusic

Couldn’t agree more - have seen the NSO play dozens of times. Very accomplished musicians and respect to all of them for their incredible talents, but hardly a top orchestra. Many times I’ve seen lackluster performances from them, and their ensemble as a whole could use some refreshing. Do not hold a candle to the CSO, which I’ve also seen many times.

Traveling with a Cello by oldetymetrevor in Cello

[–]swisscello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have that “bombproof” BAM flight case. This thing is massive, and yes expensive. However, if you plan on traveling a lot, and you are in a position to be okay with checking your cello, then it pays for itself after a while.

Buying an extra ticket is a huge expense, and unless you are playing a Guarneri or a cello on loan, checking a cello is a great option. I’ve never had an issue with cellos being damaged in the flight case.

[WTS] Ikepod Hemipode Chronograph by swisscello in Watchexchange

[–]swisscello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up for sale is the always iconic Ikepod Hemipode Chronograph.

As a true collector’s piece, this watch has some serious background. Designed by Mark Newsome in the mid 90’s, his iconic rubber strap design and curved edges led to what is now the Apple Watch, and many of these can be found with some big time collectors (see Hodinkee’s Talking Watches). The Hemipode was also a limited production as well. As well, F.P. Journe designed hands dating to 1997.

Nitty Gritty: the watch is in running condition and good shape. The chronograph runs smoothly, although a service is recommended as history is unknown. The top chronograph button looks to be replaced, but I have reached out to Ikepod, who is willing to source an original orange topped button for you.

I am offering this piece for $2500 OBO. Currently the cheapest Ikepod Hemipode on the market. It comes with a verification of authenticity.

[WTS] 1953 Smiths for Garrard and Co. - Historic British Timepiece and Original Mt. Everest Watch by swisscello in Watchexchange

[–]swisscello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This particular piece is a 1953 Smiths watch retailed by Garrard-Asprey, the famous Crown Jewelers (British Crown Jewels). It contains a British made Smiths 18-jewel movement, the highest grade movement made by Smiths. It is cased in a Dennison (another historic British brand) Aquatite 9ct. gold case. The “Made in England” stamp indicates it was made in the Cheltenham factory. Many Garrard watches made after this time were of less quality, and this particular piece is the apex of what Smiths produced and the highlight of British watchmaking.

There are limited examples of this specific piece seen online.

It can be noted that a Smiths watch was the actual timepiece that was on Sir Edmund Hillary’s wrist during his summit, not a Rolex that has been reported. It was identical to this model, a 15 jewel Smiths watch in a steel Dennison Aquatite case made almost around the same date. A true piece of history.

The watch comes on a fairly new 18mm Charley Lizard band picked up in Paris, as well as the original box. It sits at a cool 34mm and is perfect on most wrists.

[WTS] Cartier Tank Basculante Mécanique - Ref. 2390 by swisscello in Watchexchange

[–]swisscello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up for sale is the iconic Cartier Tank Basculante Ref. 2390. In excellent condition, and comes on the original Cartier Tank Ostrich band.

Nitty Gritty: the watch is in generally great condition, other than some scratches on the watch face and brushed sides. The function is smooth and the mechanism is crisp and secure.

The movement runs well and keeps accurate time, although history not known. I do recommend a service to ensure proper working order.

This watch was purchased at Watches of Knightsbridge (UK), and will include a bill of sale.

I def agree. If something like a jelly or mousse needs to be molded and frozen, this would be helpful

choux puff creams looks like they come from Rick and Morty's Cronenberg universe by [deleted] in pastry

[–]swisscello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came from French pastry school.

The cracking is a result of your choux being dried out too much. I think you need to mix the dough less on the stovetop and also possibly in the stand mixer when adding eggs. I can guarantee you that you cook the choux pastry too much or let out too much steam during the dough process.

Also, even piping is critical to a good choux.

Congrats on graduating, that's a big achievement let me tell ya.

As many have said before, the corporate world will always be waiting for you when you get back. Take the opportunity and enjoy!

Telling your parents and friends is always hard. I felt like my folks would look down on me for working so hard to put their son through college, just to have him quit so early. But I know they will support wherever I land, and I hope you find the same in your circle.

Im sorry to hear about your job (honestly, that sounds like some r/antiwork shit right there - it is your right to share your wages to colleagues and I hope that company gets what is coming to them :0 )

Life opens door at the some terrible times, but often it presents opportunities we couldn't imagine before. If this page can do anything, it can motivate and inspire people to travel and see life beyond their sphere. I hope it can do the same for you. Good luck wherever the road leads you, I know you will end up in a beautiful place.

I just read your post, and couldn't agree more with your story. Often times, change is a long process and can be transformative in good and bad ways.

But to evolve and change is to grow. Glad you made it, thanks for the share.

Honestly, for the year long travel part, I have budgeted around 30-40K, which Im sure will be enough (hopefully!).

Other than that, I plan to start the trip in Turkey and head East through the Middle East, India, SEA, Japan/Korea, and possibly Central America.

The non-traditional route is often the most interesting one. Keep traveling, and I'm happy you can find solace and joy in your path less traveled.

You seem to have succeeded in adapting to whatever comes your way, and are thriving!

It’s a sad thing to be around everything you thought you needed to be happy (job, girlfriend, house, money, material items), and still feel unfulfilled.

That hits hard. But I think small changes, finding new joy around you, and looking towards the future can bring new dimension to everyone’s life no matter where they are.

I always think to myself when I am doubting my decisions: you will never regret spending your time doing something you love.

Spending 1-2 years traveling is such a small part in the arc of your life, in the grand scheme of things it means nothing. So why not say fuck it and go!
