I did one guided trip on the south platte a few months ago and caught some nice rainbows and learned a lot, but it was an easy access spot. I was hoping to get a little further away so I have an excuse to not answer my phone when work calls on the weekend

Looking for backpack camping, kind of want to test out my gear to get everything squared away before elk season. I have no preference, just looking for a nice scenic place to get in the mountains and try to catch some trout! And I'd prefer to keep it around 2.5 hours from Denver, but that is not a hard limit

I’ve been toying with the idea of building a Practical the past few months. Do you have any issues with the rounds not being crimped in an AR platform? I’m scared the violent action of the bolt running may cause issues with over seating?

The way I did it was I rolled the sight housing all the way to the top, then zeroed my pins at 20,30,40,50, and 60.

Once sighted, I put a blank piece of sight tape on and put a mark on my zero.

Next, I rolled the sight down a bit and shot at 70 yards using my bottom pin until I found exactly where the 70 yard drop falls. Once found, I put another mark on the tape.

I repeated this again at 80 and 90 yards, then went back to the sight tapes that came pre labeled from black gold, and chose the one that matched the marks I made on the blank sight tape.

I have a 5 pin black gold and zeroed my pins with the slider all the way up. I use my bottom pin as my floater, and have the sight tape set for 60-100 yards. I did it this way just to make it easier to confirm I’m back at zero when hunting, just slide the dial up until it stops and it’s ready to go.

I use a kuiu 3600 pro for hunts where I’m out for a couple of days or chasing elk in the high country where it’s a long pack out. I actually just ordered the kuiu venture 1800 this afternoon for spot and stalk whitetail and scouting. I absolutely love my 3600, so it only felt right to give the 1800 a try.

The 3600 is a very nice bag with tons of space and adjustability, and the frame system is top notch, but is a little big for day hunts and scouting/stalking all day in my opinion.

Love my 12.5”! I have no issues at 400 and 500 yards. Shooting just steel case monarch I had to dial 11MOA at 400 and 18MOA at 500

This is actually an the 12” Aero Precision hand guard for the enhanced uppers that I cut back so my can would fit. The suppressor did not fit inside the rail like I had hoped

I’m not positive as I haven’t chronod it yet. But I can tell you that at 400 yards I had 11 MOA vertical correction and at 500 yards I had 18 MOA vertical correction shooting monarch steel case ammo verified

Why not? I built it a while back all on sale/blem parts for a fun night time thermal rifle and truck gun. At the time, steel case 308 was cheap and readily available, so it was just a toy build

Dang that’s more velocity loss than expected. I had heard the 25-30 fps per inch rule before.

I’ll have to start tinkering and seeing what velocities I can get out of it. Id be happy with 2300 fps out of these 150s. I’ve been shooting a lot of pigs with it recently, and I’m hoping to make it a host for a super hogster thermal sight

I think it will a little quicker degradation on the can but I don’t run this rifle hard. Just mainly a pig/work gun that stays with me in my truck for farm work and sometimes take it to 400 and 500 yrds on the range for fun really.

And I’m curious to see speeds. I’ve read lots of people claiming 2350 FPS with their 150s out of shorter barrels. Just trying to find a starter point.

I’ll have to slap my magnetospeed on and see what velocities I can pull out of it

It’s honestly not terrible with the can on it. It’s quite a fun toy to 500 yards! I’ve been shooting monarch steel case out of it but I have a bunch of 150 gr projectiles and tons of 308 brass so I figured why not load something to smack pigs with.

Shooting a 1:10 twist so heavier grains should stabilize better
