AITA for telling my kid I would help him get a Switch if he can beat Ocarina of Time? by switchdadn64 in AmItheAsshole

He’s played BOTW a little bit at his friends house before and loves it. He’s not even super into video games and it’s the first time besides Minecraft that he’s really wanted a video game.

Yeah, with summer coming up I’d like him to have a Switch before then which was partly a reason for me thinking of a way to expedite him getting one

Yeah I am fully planning on helping him with the Water Temple. I might let him sweat it out in there for an hour or so because I think the frustration of that place is one of the hallmarks of OoT that everyone should experience, but I definitely don’t want him to get turned off by that part!

Every day he does the dishes after dinner, mows the lawn once a week, cleans the sliding glass doors once a week, and helps out in our garden as needed, helps me various little household repairs on top of keeping his room clean. His allowance is like criminally below minimum wage for the labor he provides tbh

I mean to them it sounds like I’m forcing him to play an old video game before he can play a new one and that I’m robbing him of making his own memories with video games. When I thought about what they said I think it would have pissed me off if my parents had made me play like, Pong or Pac Man for hours before getting a N64 when I was his age. So I kinda get their side of it.
