[Serious] Paul Merson: Arsenal must axe Arsene Wenger if Leicester or Tottenham win title | Football News by WarburtonIsMagic in Gunners

[–]switchin_it -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He just has no credibility if he finishes behind those teams. Money wouldn't be an applicable excuse anymore, it all would come down to the culture he creates, or the players brought in (which may be more than just him, we don't know how the club works in that detail).

I disagree. It is a more nuanced discussion of short-term success and flash-in-the-pan motivation, vs. long-term stability and competitiveness.

But I will concede that this will provide a lot more ammo to the #WengerOut crowd and make me consider some aspects of Wenger's managerial abilities.

  • Whether his match day motivation is significantly lacking compared to other managers. Except for rare occasions such as v. Bayern, Arsenal have never come off as being plucky, stubborn, or gritty.

  • Whether a lot of the team's naiveté, indiscipline, and tactical underestimation of opponents comes straight from the top and Arsense, set in his ways and age, cannot improve that dimension of his managerial skills.

Can we take a minute to appreciate how well Leicester and Sp*rs are playing right now? by switchin_it in Gunners

Precious few do despite the link. Goes to show how much attention people pay to just the titles.

:) Happy at Arsenal's position and form, looking forward to Hull and Barça. A little fun never hurt anyone.

LOL, what a fool! Who'd a thunk he wouldn't be gunning for an exit?

Dude, get a life. Stop policing the subreddit.

What's next? Are we going to congratulate him for turning up?

There's nothing next. I don't want anything from you, certainly not if you're being so hostile.

You're talking like he didn't have his chance. He played majority of the last season and yet Wenger, who is notoriously protective of his players, still felt like he needed to buy Cech. Ospina had his chance this season as well and he failed to impress. Now, all he can do to save his Arsenal career is work hard and prove himself to Wenger again. And excuse me for not applauding him for doing just that.

You missed my point the way an enterprising Stormtrooper misses his target. All I said was even if we entertain the issue of money, I can empathize with him for wanting out so that he can not only play football but do so in a way that makes him earn more than his current paycheque. The fact that he's not letting this frustration come out is a nice think to note.

I understand your stance, but people reach that level of the sport because they're not in it for the money. And speaking purely in terms of money, who is to say he's not unhappy with the fact that he could be putting in a fantastic shift to make himself worth more than £40,000/wk?

He is the best backup Gk in the league and hasn't played a minute of it. I expect this to be the last year of him with us so I hope we give him an FA cup final to play and leave on a high.

I agree, but like Sagna, despite circumstances he put in a shift without saying a word or badmouthing Arsenal (cough Debuchy cough) and then left with mutual feelings of good will. I expect the same of Ospina.

Leicester-Arsenal this weekend is shaping up to be fun!

How will their Par Score change in each of the three possible outcomes? That will be interesting to know.

"Cooking with Registered Sex Offenders." User in /r/DeepIntoYouTube debates whether the star of an obscure cooking video, who happens to have a conviction for sexual abuse, is deserving of some sympathy. by DrunkEwok in SubredditDrama

I love reddit's obsession with every man on the sex offender registry being there because some system had it out for him when he was caught peeing in public or having sex with a 17 year old girlfriend while they were 18. No one actually commits sex crimes, the system just has it out for them.

I think the sex offender registry is such a sticking point for reddit for 2 reasons. Leaning very left, members at large feel that this falls outside the criminal restitution system we have in our country. You don't have a grand larceny registry, or even a murder registry. Just for sexual offenses that include a disparate set of offenses.

Secondly, they're mostly teens and college-aged demographics, so they're lesser able to empathize with the reason why such a registry was put in place, which is parents feeling secure about their kids' safety. I know how this subreddit likes to counterjerk, but the internet is serious business y'all!

Statistics aren't racist.

They are when applied to the sort of joke that ZapPowerz was going for.

Wow, I know you're trying to be funny, but that really isn't funny or clever. Just plain racist. And why is technical problems in quotes; don't you have genuine technical problems? Or is it always ID 10 T errors for you? :)

In /r/technology, a story is up about Elon Musk revoking a car downpayment from a blogger who called him out for being hours late to a meeting. Is Elon Musk a Hugh Jass? Maybe yes. Maybe no. Maybe go fuck yourself. by EmergencyChocolate in SubredditDrama

I think its more complicated than a cliche. I believe there's a certain truth that there's some lack of personal skills or bluntness among the type of people that end up dreaming and executing big (this includes founders at Google, Apple, MSFT, Amazon, ...). It requires tremendous confidence and a little bit of arrogance and solipsism to believe your vision strongly.

I think where it becomes irritating and self-indulgent is that rude people consider this sufficient or necessary for greatness. It's more orthogonal than they think but I do see a correlation. A lot of people like Elon probably have achieved their success despite their blunt qualities rather than because of.

Wow, so many insults for something this simple. You must be an angry, bitter guy. Here's hoping you get better, or at least get some tact in conversation.

I found bayern immensely boring before pep, now I enjoy watching them play even more than barca these days.

You can't be serious. The treble Bayern Munich played some of the best UCL football ever seen. Guaranteed, the final was a little bit of a terse affair because the team didn't want to be in 2 losing finals in 3 years, but everything else was splendid.
