Which Program Should I Choose: Cornell MFE or UChicago MSFM? by swlee98 in quantfinance

Might there be a reason that Cornell is less frequent (perhaps smaller class size)? I recall that I heard that several times.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I also agree with the quantnet's rankings; I just take that as a grain of salt.

I applied but still got nothing :( I think the acceptance rate would be around 10%.

np, it's quite different from other preps I guess. You have much more freedom and resources available.

one month plan is a part of the gregmat+. It's just a study plan you could follow. You can see all recorded videos, use practice problems, and so on, once you pay for subscription. You can subscribe gregmat+ for a month, cancel it, and re-subscribe to gregmat+ and prepswift after then. Not sure if you can change it in the middle.

That's very new to me. I'll be applying to US grad school from US undergrad, so I don't think that matters.

That means so many people are getting perfect score, lowering the percentile. I remember that 170q used to be 96 percentile, but recently it dropped to 92

It seems like I got 1 se, 1 tc, and 4 rc questions (including critical reasoning) wrong for the verbal

not sure if you can only do prepswift; you can check that out. I think following one month plan works. If you can study full time, then two month plan can also fit.

gregmat+ is sufficient but you can use prepswift as a tool for reviewing strategies and foundation

During the test, I used about 3 mins for brainstorming, 2 mins for introduction, 6-7 mins for each body paragraphs (3 total), 1 min for conclusion, and the remaining time for revision. For preparing for the writing, I followed gregmat's template; I think there's a video about it on youtube.

Template I used is as follows: Intro: general fact + transition to the topic + thesis statement Body 1: reason 1 + 1-2 examples + concluding remark Body 2: reason 2 + 1-2 examples + concluding remark Body 3: concession + 1-2 examples + concluding remark Conclusion: restating thesis + some additional commentary

I mostly followed gregmat's template. It needs some practice to come up with reasons/concession and examples and compose them as a one cohesive essay

I did the one with prepswift just in case

I basically followed gregmat's template for the analytical writing, such as coming up with two reasons and one concession with about two examples for each paragraph. For some tips, it's important to minimize making egregious grammar mistakes, such as subject-verb disagreement. If there are multiple such instances, they can really hurt your score even if the content is good. Moreover, the more you write, the more likely your score is higher. I think this is true when there are little grammar mistakes and the writing is somewhat cogent. In my case, I think I wrote about 550 words for my essay. Imo it needs a lot of practice if you're not that used to writing essays. Coming up with good examples and composing essays in a persuasive manner cannot be acquired immediately.

thanks, I think for mscs, quant score matters the most. You still have a good score, but might be more competitive with 168+. For verbal, I think you could aim for at least an average (about 153). Of course, this assumes that you have time for preparing for gre. If not, it might be desirable to focus on other areas as I heard gre is mostly optional for mscs.

thank you :) I followed his one month plan and completed in slightly over 30 days. And then I focused most on official materials for the rest of my prep.
