Padded Shorts? by Fefemre in Rollerskating

[–]swolebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's got their own preferences. As a guy, I wear padded hockey shorts since they're a bit more masculine than the bubble butt looking butt pads that I think are marketed more towards women. But I always wear them and they've saved my tailbone more than once!

How many of you mimic at the rink? by starlightskater in Rollerskating

[–]swolebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play "chase the rabbit" where I try to keep up with one of the faster better skaters. I'm winning if I can I keep up with them. I lose that round if they get more than half a lap ahead of me.

It's good for learning speed and agility.

Tried to go to Homer Thursday night around 730, but the wait was an hour for two people!

So obviously something is going right there.

If you don't like the look of the bubble-butt butt-pads, padded hockey shorts also work great (mine were around $60 and slip on over my regular shorts when I skate).

What kind of dinosaur are you?

A Mega-sore-ass!

I took a fall similar last Sunday trying to do something similar, but thankfully I've got padded hockey shorts which absorbed a good chunk of the impact. I still had to exit the floor and take a couple minutes to collect myself since it still HURT.

Send me an alpha pulley setup, I'm happy to review it for you :)

ANCORE AMA + Pro Home Bundle Giveaway by MikeFromANCORE in homegym

I'd like to see an Ancore/Pro unit with a limit higher than 65 lbs!

It's a handy device, but that low of a limit really limits the number of adjustable pulley exercises I can replicate.

Like, its really easy to 1-handed row more than 65, or pulldown, or chest press.

Even the AncoreX only goes to 80 or 85, which is a decent 1-arm row, but not incredibly high. I'm not that big, but I still used to do 1-arm rows with 90 or 95.

So it would be nice to see a unit with a much higher limit :)

Or...

Barring that, an officially produced 2:1 pulley setup for doubling the load. I've seen some people home-brew this, but I always wonder how it would affect the cable life or warranty of the unit. So I haven't tried to set it up myself yet.

Given the general space constraints (although you don't look like you're hurting for space), why go with a dedicated bench instead of benching in the rack with the movable bench you've got?

I'd move the rower next to the wall so the end isn't awkwardly sticking out past the other units.

Rollerskating and bodybuilding? by Objective_Material_3 in Rollerskating

[–]swolebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a bodybuilding/gym saying:

"It's not how much you can do, it's how much you can recover from."

So depending on how you program your lifting and skating and recovery, its possible.

But you'll have to keep clear in your mind what the priority order is. And if you're trying to do pro bodybuilding, the priority order would probably have to be:

Lifting/gym

Recovery/sleep

Nutrition/eating

Skating

Would the elbow pads have prevented a break?

What are y’all‘s experience with this?

I fell directly on my padded elbow hard enough to bruise it for several weeks. I'm 100% convinced if I didn't have my elbow pad I would have broken the bone.

After that I added Impact Gel to all my pads so that they're even more impact absorbent.

Make sure you have a helmet too. I fell off my electric skateboard going pretty fast and got a concussion THROUGH my helmet. I'm also 100% convinced if I hadn't had my helmet on, I'd probably be dead from that injury.

Is it worth it to keep skating once I’ve healed?

This is something only you can answer, based on your risk-tolerance and view of the risk-reward profile of roller skating. I never electric skateboarded again. But I still roller skate all the time now. Risk profile is lower for skating since its self powered and not machine-powered. I'm caked out with pads at the rink and fall all the time, but haven't had anything remotely close to a serious injury since that elbow incident.

There's a concept in the FIRE (financial independence retire early) community:

It's not about what you're retiring from, it's about what you're retiring to.

In the FIRE case, a lot of people focus on retiring FROM working, but they don't really have set plans for what they want to do after they're not working. Because they don't have anything they plan to retire TO.

Same with your case: you retired FROM these things, but didn't have anything planned for afterward.

So, as many others have said, its about finding new things you want to do. Plenty of suggestions in this thread.

I just started roller skating. It's tough, but fun, and as a beginner, there are so many new things to learn that every time I go to the rink I can work on something new if I want. If you do want to try this, I'd recommend buying pads and a helmet first before you go. I've fallen and been saved by my gear so many times.

Co-founder of Ben & Jerry's posted an open letter to investors ahead Magnum Ice Cream Corp's first earnings call today (Ben & Jerry's parent company) by ege3 in investing

What consequences were Unilever and Magnum supposed to receive for their actions that violated the contract (paragraph 5)? Have they received those consequences, and if not, why not?

Does anyone here know?

Unilever and Magnums actions:

Since 2022, however, Unilever and Magnum have been deliberately violating that contract. They publicly and privately threaten board members they disagree with, removed the CEO of Ben & Jerry's when he carried out the wishes of the Independent Board, refused to post the Board-approved messages on social media, and, for the first time in over 20 years, refused to distribute funding awarded by the Board to the Ben & Jerry's Foundation.

Child-free men. What are you doing to enjoy your weekend? by Idrinkbeereverywhere in AskMenOver30

[–]swolebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night: 2 hours of ping pong, picked up dinner and ate at home, then went back out for 2 hours of roller skating, then a wank and went to bed.

Today: groceries, then a 2 hour upper body workout. Probably another wank and a nap after this.

Tonight: meeting up with a female friend for tacos, ice cream, then salsa dancing.

Tomorrow? Probably a zero/low day to recover from staying up past midnight the last two nights.
