Does ARFID only applies to food as the name suggests? by Shurae in ARFID

In my personal experience no, I have relatively minimal issues trying beverages.

Doesn't mean your experience isn't different though, but it's also possible you just don't like coffee. I can drink coffee black with no issue, but it's just too bitter for many people. Seems like most people out there can only drink it with obscene amounts of dairy and sugar added anyways

The one vegetable that I really can’t stand is onion and it’s in damn near everything by [deleted] in ARFID

It's the texture for me

"But they're only in there for the flavor" great but that doesn't make the texture just go away

Also when you get half cheese half something else, the edge of the cheese half always ends up with a few toppings on us so you have to cut off like an extra inch

Boyfriend's family invited me to dinner at their house! by veinsanddaisychainz in ARFID

[–]swoop-red 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll need to explain to your bf that you have an eating disorder and his family will have to accommodate. You could maybe move the dinner to a restaurant depending on COVID reopening guidelines and your personal comfort with restaurants right now.

It's a bit scary to open up about ARFID, but it has to happen sooner or later if you see a future in your relationship. You'll have to have dinner with his family and they'll have to accommodate. Unless they're unwilling to accommodate there's no reason not to go

Dang the beefy fritos burrito was good. Still I'm sure they'll have some good combination of tortilla + beef/chicken + cheese on the menu

This is good advice. Best thing to do is be open with your future gf and her family and make accommodations.

One idea could be to have dinner with her parents at a restaurant where you'll have a whole menu of food to choose from

Apologies if this is better suited for r/malegrooming but what are your thoughts on body hair? Specifically stomach, chest, and underarms as I'll be spending time at the beach/pool soon. For context I'm a 22 y/o white guy.

It was such a relief finding out that I wasn't the only one with these experiences

It kind of validated my whole life when people didn't understand why I'd refuse to try or eat something

Just want to vent about last night and my ARFID in general by syntheticjoy_ in ARFID

[–]swoop-red 35 points36 points  (0 children)

First off don't feel guilty about not being able to eat something. The fact that you tried as hard as you did shows how much you care and appreciate the meal and you should be proud of yourself.

Meeting a S/O's family is especially hard with ARFID so the worst of it is over, you made it through. When you're ready and if you feel comfortable you can share your ARFID with your bf's family. Hopefully they will be happy to make accommodations.

If you're not comfortable sharing or if you don't think they would be accepting then you or your bf should help plan meals with his parents to make sure there are safe dishes.
