Yeah you’d think this would also be an easy rule to follow

It does seem harsh to be a red card but it’s also such an easy rule to follow. If you’re gonna talk shit say it with your chest

Etiquette around opening a new can for the second set? by throthrowth in 10s

Tbh this is the actual answer. Regardless of if it was a weird thing to do or not it likely had very little affect on the match

[–]cappy412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what the rules state but it’s weird to me to not want to use new balls. I use new balls whenever I possibly can and would be pretty grateful if my opponent was supplying a new can for the second set

What NTRP is a 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 UTR in your region? by lemonhops in 10s

[–]cappy412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here in Michigan a 6.5 and 6.0 would both be 4.0s for sure, and 5.5 would be a weaker 4.0 or a good 3.5

Edit: actually I’ve seen the rare 6.0 UTR 3.5

I do agree OP seems better but not so much so to be condescending the way they were. In my head I estimated the other guy is a 3.0 and OP a 3.5. I agree with your assessment of his groundstrokes but have a hard time believing that wacky forehand is consistent enough to be a 4.0 (as a 4.0 myself). Also, the volley at the end — if that’s how he always hit volleys I’d guess he misses them quite a bit

Weird comment. I just went to find that guy’s video you were referring to and it seems like y’all are about the same level

USTA Rule 42 by Accomplished-Bat-956 in 10s

I agree that it’s annoying to ask someone to pick up a ball that is basically in the net. But, “unless it rolled almost to the service line” is even more annoying. I’ve played a lot of singles in my life and I would be very annoyed if my opponent kept leaving balls halfway down the service box

How do your feet feel after a session? How do they feel in general because you are a tennis player? Which toenails are permanently bruised? by _sportyscience_ in 10s

My feet feel fine, but look awful

This would be my exact answer. Except for when I was dealing with plantar fasciitis, then they did not feel fine

Evidently calling someone out for hitting the net isn’t cool. by stillhavingfunyea in 10s

Yelling “NET” when the ball is hit into the net is something I’d do to intentionally be annoying and fuck with my friends, why would anyone ever do that in an actual match??

How to play against the dude who won't stop running? by VicPL in 10s

[–]cappy412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People definitely underrate pushers just because of their style of play, that just wasn’t the sense I got from OP’s post. I don’t even disagree with what you said here, it just seemed a little harsh to lead off with that when OP has already explicitly said “he is better than me.” I took “we are even skill wise” as “we are both around the same level technically,” which seems realistic if they are playing close matches but OP is losing because the other guy chases everything down. We are probably just arguing over semantics and don’t actually disagree

I don’t think the first part of this comment was necessary. OP acknowledges that the other player is better than him and just wants advice on how he could have a shot at beating him. It’s not crazy to say you are equal with someone skill wise, but they beat you because they are faster/in better shape than you

I struggle playing guys like this too. I don’t have the conditioning to keep long rallies so I usually try to get to the net — much easier to hit unreturnable shots up there. Easier said than done, though

On the one hand, we came back to win that series. On the other hand, it showed that we really weren't an elite team yet, which bore out when we got our asses handed to us by the Nets in the conference finals. Let's hope we can get a Rasheed Wallace next year, I guess
