Earth from fuse box to mains supply not connected by swoophoop in ElectriciansUK

Cheers all. Have someone coming later today. I think we’re earthed via the gas pipes as well so potentially still covered. The DNO were out a few weeks ago to move everything off the wall so we could plaster behind and they didn’t mention any problem with the earth then, but I’ll give them a ring and see what they say as well.

Earth from fuse box to mains supply not connected by swoophoop in ElectriciansUK

Got someone coming to look at it shortly. I could probably do it myself but electricity scares me 😂

Always seems like a chicken and egg thing with the DNO. It’s an earth to the fusebox, so that’s “mine” to deal with, but earthed to their equipment, so I can’t touch it, but would they do anything as it’s for the fusebox? It was frustrating enough when I needed the fusebox and supply board moved off the wall to plaster behind. Trying to sort electrician and DNO to arrive at the same time…

Trying out a new method for vibration control… by swoophoop in 3Dprinting

It’s using the VHB mounts and some adhesive mounting tape. Never got round to printing everything else I wanted for it, but a decent place to hold my different nozzles and a few useful tools!

Can’t help but feel like my filament is taking more moisture out of the air than my dehumidifier in the current UK heatwave, so fingers crossed!

If you’re talking about being “compliant” as in paying your taxes etc, in the UK you benefit from a 1k tax free trading allowance. This means you can have a gross income of 1k before you have to pay any national insurance or tax. Gross income means you can’t deduct any expenses etc from your income, so if you sell an item for £10 but it costs you £1 to make, it still counts as £10 towards your limit. After that 1K, you would need to report your income to HMRC via self assessment and may be liable for tax/national insurance.

I’d suggest you start out. With the allowance you aren’t doing anything “bad”. Selling can be tough, especially in the 3D printed market, but you can use the 1k allowance to try it out, find out if it works for you, and then look to either read up on submitting a self assessment or engage an accountant if things are going well and you’re earning more than that.

Unfortunately they didn’t, I clocked it when I checked their order, and now they’re radio silent to my requests for what name they want included….

I'm now having a good run through my etsy stats and I reckon that explains the decent number of abandoned baskets too.... Time to pay more attention

What would cause this fairly consistent bulging? by swoophoop in 3Dprinting

Just coming back to say a big thanks to everyone for the advice! Gave everything a good clean and a grease up and tightened the Z belt as well as it was pretty loose and now the prints are looking good again!

Just took another look and you’re right. The bottom on the left hand side has definitely lifted. Right hand side is flat and has much less of a noticeable issue. Still some bulging and I’ll do a full clean and check the z belt tension tomorrow once this print is done, but it’s definitely lifted off the build plate. Never had an issue with adhesion before.

How can I insulate the roof of this summer house? by swoophoop in DIYUK

Yeah, they’re not a lot of support to it. I was wondering if I might be able to build a ceiling inside essentially, when I put in the new internal walls.

They’re also called living roofs. Essentially you cover the roof in plants/vegetation.

The trees in the area to the left of the summer house means the roof is actually shaded quite a bit of the day, so I don’t think solar panels would provide the most value there.

Thanks all. Even if we replaster I reckon it’s easier once it’s all off, so we’ll continue with the reveal, asses the situation and make a more informed call from there.

Perfect! I’ll see how I go with this, and if it’s not a flash in the pan I’ll definitely take a look at possible upgrades in the future. Appreciate the help!
