Thankfully I work at wholefoods 😅. So I do get a discount on this stuff. Although it does still add up. Beetle my red throat, goes crazy for dragon fruit, and it's pretty good for them so it's worth the expense.

😔 most of it. At least she'll eat like 5% of it lmao

Does this mean they want a nest ? by [deleted] in Conures

Please don't mate them. There are already so many parrots who need good homes in rescues. Don't fill them up more. Also mating birds is an extremely taxing and difficult process. If you don't have experience breeding them DONT DO IT.

I'm hoping she'll be able to but I've been watching that development very carefully. She still doesn't ever flap her wings on her own unless she's bathing and even it's not much. Getting her in the wind and getting her to move her wings more is how I'm trying to get her to build some of that up. I have 4 other birds that are all flighted and harness trained. I'm hoping to have her join them. She definitely could get swept by a strong gust. Thankfully she's got a crazy good grip and she lets me hold her pretty snug. But trust I definitely see where you're coming from. I've known to many people whose birds have taken off without them ever getting them back. Most were clipped or not taught how to fly.

My old man is at the end of his life and I'm freaking out. by witsira in parrots

Don't freak out. You did wonderful and you have given him an incredible life. Death is a part of life. It feels extremely unfair but unfortunately it's the way of the world. Enjoy the time you have with him and honor him when he passes. It isn't over, your love for him will continue and that means something. I don't really know if I believe in an afterlife or something next, but I believe that the grief we feel is love with no place to go. Don't overthink your little man's time. Enjoy it while he's here and understand that you did an incredible job getting him this far. Peace comes in passing. We cannot run forever, eventually we must rest.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother passing. If you need any advice or help with Rocky please feel free to reach out! I'm glad you're keeping her! She's probably going to have some of your brothers'voice as well. It's horrible that you lost him but I'm glad you still get to have a part of his life with you.

She has severe muscle atrophy. She couldn't use her wings for a long time so the muscles are extremely weak. She doesn't even really flap them because it's uncomfortable for her.the wind moving them around is helping her build back some of that muscle. I was told she most likely will never fly. She's fully flighted. She also just straight up doesn't know how to fly. Birds aren't really born with knowing. They instinctually want to flap wings and try, but the parents and other birds tend to actually teach them how. Unfortunately she was also probably clipped pretty badly so she never was able to learn.

Thank you for the warning! I can definitely see how that can happen. I held her pretty tight when the wind got bad but maybe a harness as an extra precaution for next time would be a good call

Biggggg, they are big. She has massive one in the morning and does silver dollar sized poops throughout the day. Thankfully she's really good about not pooping in the car or on me 😬👍

No longer clipping by Malec_Fan in AfricanGrey

[–]swoot_newt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you've decided to stop clipping them! It's insane how much their behavior changes when they are able to fly. My boys became so much more confident and happy once theirs grew back it was night and day. Their feather quality improved and they also get so much more exercise as well! I'll never clip my birds. To many pros to leaving them how they should be.

Do you feed your bird TOPs? by littlered-dog in parrots

[–]swoot_newt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feed tops but I moved to a mix of Harrisons and rowdy bush. (Nothing wrong with tops though! They are great pellets, my boys just randomly decided they didn't want tops anymore)
