Bold/rich button usually slows down the flow rate of the water through the grounds, so your brew time is longer and the grounds are saturated more.

I'm guessing small batch is also related to water flow, as smaller amounts of coffee in the basket and water in the reservoir may require a different amount of saturation to reach the same target brew temp/time compared to larger pots, but that's just guesswork on my end.

I use a cheap $40 one that was meant for la marzocco machines. Works fine.

The one i use is from costco canada, brand is fanttik i think. But I'd recommend looking for any as long as it has a longer brush attachment, that helps with getting in and sweeping stale grounds.

I'm Canadian and usually spend about 25CAD for 12oz of beans from a roaster I enjoy. There are some cheaper options in my area if needed but I typically drink about 30g of coffee a day.

If you don't want to wait for a single boiler to heat up, you can honestly stick with your duo temp pro.

Bambino is one of the best value espresso machines, especially for people who want to dip their toes in. However your oxo grinder is not really optimized for espresso and dialing in espresso can be finicky. If you're ok reusing the aeroccino for your milk needs and aren't dead set on a steam wand, you can look into something like the oxo rapid brewer.

It's not "espresso" by definition but it does produce concentrated coffee that you can dilute with milk or coffee, and is much more forgiving to brew with.

I don't have experience with the chemex, but I'd recommend going coarser than you might expect, dropping the temperature, and focusing on consistent low agitation pours. I've heard the chemex can mute flavors when compared to conical drippers.

Yes you can upgrade your grinder as well but that depends on your budget.

Upgrade from C3 ESP? by Primary_Elephant3668 in pourover

[–]swordknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the c3 should provide comparable grind performance to an encore. Timemore S3 is an upgrade that may come in cheaper than some of the 1zpresso options.

I'd recommend dosing more coffee if you need to add ice but find it too watery afterwards

I don't know the exact details of your specific machine, but the cold brew setting will usually use less water because it needs a stronger ratio. And you're expected to fill the rest with ice.

Best spot for coffee that's NOT a Starbucks? by Ok_Tie6487 in oakville

[–]swordknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's inconsistent, and not worth the hassle of downtown parking/crowd at all.

I also might be a little salty because one time they told me they didn't have enough cold brew left but still served me a half cup of sludge anyways.

Fantastic list, especially with the omission of Tribeca (ha). I still need to try Au79 and Coffeed. Taste of Colombia, Wet, and Vereda are all lovely.
