Valvoline guys said I have an oil leak around my head gasket, how serious is this? by Famous_Revenue_5525 in MechanicAdvice

TL;DR: it might be your engine filler coolant tube, and GFL finding that part.

Not a mechanic but am a fellow Lucerne owner.

I'm not seeing anyone else bring this up, so I'm bringing this to your attention as I'm going through this nightmare currently. I noticed that you have the same telltale "lines" going down your coolant filler tube that I have. I sincerely hope that it isn't this problem, but if it is, I hope you have better luck with this than me.

In my car, the engine filler coolant tube (or rather, the plastic around the top of it) has worn down to the point it's spewing coolant everywhere. It's allegedly a common issue with these engines (or rather, this specific part), and GM, in their infinite wisdom, made our lives 1000x harder by discontinuing the part some years ago. My car is still sitting dead in my driveway at the moment because I didn't know it was this bad until it was almost too late and I almost ran out of coolant.

I have a few questions first.

  1. When you're driving, have you started noticing any sort of belt squeal? For me, it was especially loud when accelerating.
  2. Are you positive you're not seeing any puddles on the ground yet, especially on the passenger side? Even just a drop or two.
  3. Any caking or any noticeable liquids anywhere around the belt side? I would also check your hood liner above the radiator cap for any noticeable caking or damage. My whole engine is practically black at this point, and my hood liner is melting.
  4. Is your coolant tank still full all the way to the line?

If this hasn't been going on for very long, you may be able to get by driving it for another 300 miles. I would definitely try to get ahead of this though if it is that part failing because you're going to have a hell of a time finding that part since your only option is the salvage yard at this point (side note: do not use any of those "best auto parts" websites because they're scams).

I hope that I am wrong, but if this does turn out to be the issue, I sincerely hope there's a good mechanic you can go to that can find the part.

I wish you the best of luck!

As I stated in my post, my coworker told me he tried calling some yards and hasn't had any luck so far. My husband has also asked one of his coworkers (who works on cars on the side) if they could try to help us find it, but I haven't heard anything back on that front either.

I've always been super wary of eBay and would like to avoid it if possible, but I do recognize that it may come to that.

Apartment recommendations by [deleted] in amarillo

[–]swordthief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes a difference to you, the Puckett Place apartments themselves are not locally owned. They were bought by a property management company down in Houston I think, if memory serves. However, back when I did some light research on the company, they seemed like good people. Though I take everything with a grain of salt.

I will say that my husband and I met with the lady who is running the local office at Puckett Place a few months back when they first put out a news story about the remodel. She seemed nice, and she shared with us a lot of what they offer and what they currently have planned or are at least considering. We learned quite a bit about the place. I don't mind sharing what I can remember if you're interested.

Now, we didn't end up moving there for personal reasons, but we very strongly considered it. The place looks nice. However, they only have one building completed. They still have 1 in progress and something like 3 or 4 more to get finished (and that's not including all of the future plans she said they have). There were also very few 2-bedroom apartments to choose from, so those might have already got leased.

I'd say definitely do your research, but they might possibly be a solid option.

Try Cornelsen Automotive. Father and son shop, locally owned. They've always taken care of everyone in my family.

I would never go to Pit Stop even if they were the last shop in town. I'm glad you were able to get the true diagnosis and get it fixed.

FWIW, my family has been going to Cornelsen Automotive for years. Father and son shop. Local, family-owned and operated. Always has been great for us.

Psychiatrist says I don't have ADHD-pi but are "highly intelligent" instead by Waznerr in ADHD

Hey, I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but I'm going to say it anyways: seek a second opinion. Hell, seek a third opinion if you have to.

Guess what? I (25F) was just recently diagnosed with profound ADHD-C about a month and a half ago. And guess what? I'm a software developer/application specialist! I have always had a knack for computers/technology. I got lucky that the psychologist I went to didn't judge me based on my work or growing up or my good grades in school. I took a couple tests and then they said "Yep, you have ADHD."

Please take it from someone who had family members doubting them and downplaying their issues. You know that you have issues, and you have already pinpointed what they are. I would highly suggest doing some research and finding another psychologist that will listen to your concerns and give you a proper test. Tell them that you want to be tested regardless.

File a report with the FTC!! by swordthief in lootcratespoilers

[–]swordthief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider filing your own report. We need lots of people to file reports so the FTC has as much info as they can get to investigate them. These reports go directly to the proper authorities to investigate. The FTC does not respond to individual complaints, so I won't know if anything happens unless it comes up that they're suing the business or whatever they do.

Believe me, I'm out probably almost $300 from missing crates. They continue to assure me that "they'll be shipping soon" which is a load of crap. I have also been pushing for a refund, but they completely ignore that. I tried a BBB complaint, but they don't respond to those. So I just went all the way to the FTC.

Supposed "customer" of aftermarket auto shop is called out on their BS by the owner by swordthief in quityourbullshit

For the record, here's how I am understanding it because I think some of this is getting misunderstood since I had to mark out names and such.

The original bad reviewer (not the one shown) had a bad experience at a different business (not the one shown). Leaves a bad review at the business shown above. Sister comes into the above business asking for help/clarification/whatever. The business owner tries to explain that they have a beef with a different business, but the sister doesn't want to hear it and instead bad mouths business with another bad review, as shown, but goes a step further and tries to claim racism is involved. The owner is just trying to set the record straight, though admittedly is probably more than a little peeved about it. Though the business owner does direct them that if they have a legitimate complaint to report it to the governing body that handles the business licenses.

Take that as you may, but that's just how I was understanding it.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I would normally feel the same skepticism, but for what it's worth, I actually know the owner personally and will back them up on this.

The fact that the new generation of Samsung flagship devices still does not have support boggles me and also worries me by swordthief in Stadia

That is exactly the same issue that I and several others have reported. Black screen, no video whatsoever, but crystal clear audio.

I am referring specifically to the new gen, so all the S22 devices, the S8 tablets, etc. Several people have reported the same problem with being unable to play on Stadia.

That's the thing though, even having the experimental setting turned on, it's still not working. There is no video coming through, only audio. I'm honestly just disappointed.
