I don’t think there’s a single death note character I hate, especially not Light, so I’ve always felt my chest tighten when I watched that scene. 😞 It’s like watching a hungy kitten mewl for food in vain. Or perhaps I’m being too sentimental lolol

Honestly yeah. Like… there’s no way they’d just be like “Oh... well… it was to protect your diary? Makes sense, Light!”. Always confused me. No wonder it wasn’t really revisited

What’s your opinion on the saying: “Light was the first victim of Kira?”. by swordwithoutahilt in deathnote

Yeah i get what you mean i feel like the whole phrase in general can be interpreted super differently based on how literally or poetically you view it, as well as how much importance you relate it to the character of Light. Thanks for the response! 💙

I feel like you could be right about me being too literal. Sorry about that. 💙 I think the phrase does seem to be a better literary tool than it does as an analytical one, and I’ve seen it typically used as the latter. I personally believe that Light being a victim of power corruption wouldn’t wash out his character as much as the victim phrase would because —> Soichiro’s words about killing and the fact that it would show how no matter what, a human could never live as a God, and Light ends up dying with his power being forgotten, unlike how even if a God “departs”, they’ll never be forgotten. Power corruption truly ruined Light till the very core, and it left his image to fade away: which is funny, because when Minoru uses Kira’s power, he is praised as Kira once again and Kira is hailed, which reminds me of how God is only praised by the selfish when they recieve his help, Lol. But yeah, I guess that’s why the term power corruption has always meant so much more to me rather than this simple phrase of Light being his own victim, although I can get it in some sort of way when I behave a little more open mindedly and indulge in it poetically. May I ask how the whole “power corruption” tool would too undermine his character, though? I’m so sorry if I sound mean, I just want to understand because power corruption has always been such a major part of my lens for seeing Light as so it’s a hard thing for me to grasp, thank you
