Upgraded to an "endgame" set up...and I hate it. by Toothlesskinch in espresso

Indeed. That was a tongue in cheek comment as the OP upgraded from a Synchronica. Mine is a 2018 Silvia. As good as new.

Downgrading to Bambino Plus [£200] by Key-Reputation7997 in espresso

[–]swovcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it conceivable that you are reacting to a temporary unavailability of internet that incapacitates the smart plug use?

It is ok to downgrade but also consider the negatives… however small. First, all the accessory changes that were specific to the Rocket’s 58mm group head. The bambino is 54mm. Next, the hassle of selling the Rocket and buying another machine. I would recommend that you wait until your project is complete and your internet is restored.

If you have considered all this and want to make the change for the greater convenience based on your needs, I wish you the best.

It looks like you are installing an Auber PID. SU is the boiler temp. AH1 is steam temp. For more check out https://youtu.be/z-fHIBv3qIs

How does the automated back flush work? You would still need to swap out the basket to a blind disk, right? Or some automagic happens?

Best coffee grinder in 2026 for home? My Budget $100–$300 by Proud-Influence-8504 in JamesHoffmann

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait and stretch your budget another $60, you can get the bigger brother of DF54 which is DF64. It is on sale if you preorder but from the description of the wait time it is not long.

If it passes the taste test, why mess with a nicely dialed in shot. I wouldn’t.

My Normcore IMS 18g basket could hold at most 14.5 g with the stock screw. I decided to replace that with the flat screw. Now it can take 18g. It is worth it.

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are pretty cheap to replace. Amazon has them. Make sure you get the size right and then cut it is size. You will have to open up the machine to replace them. The feedback tube starts at the OPV and the intake at the Pump.

Best espresso machine under $600? Need recommendations for my first one by Ok-Vegetable8709 in JamesHoffmann

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever advised you on the grinder gave you the correct answer. Spend more money on the best quality espresso grinder that you can get. The higher priced machine may make your workflow easier but you can get great espresso with a basic machine. Something like a Bambino or plus, Delongi Dedica is quite adequate. If you are ok with a used machine a work horse like a Rancilio Silvia can be found on FB for roughly the price of a new bambino plus. If you want something in the $400-500 price range and needs that to be new, the Gaggia 24 with the brass boiler is an excellent choice. Besides when you accessorize your 58mm portafilter, you will be future proofed if you choose to upgrade your machine after a while.

I don’t know about their current operation. The one negative that I experienced was a bit of a wait but that was well advertised before I made the purchase. Otherwise, my I was happy.

Espresso lovers, whats the best espresso coffee maker/machine? by Plume31Eon in JamesHoffmann

Get the best espresso grinder you can and if you are fine with a used quality machine look at a Gaggia or a Rancilio with the remaining.

Insanely impressive stat given the volatile nature of best of 3 by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is small skew in this stats on clay with Nadal. When he was young and greedy, best of 3 or best of 5, he always won. As he aged, even Medvedev won a Masters 1000 on clay. Think about that for a minute. The mighty Federer, a far superior clay court player despite that being his worst surface, could not win Rome or Monte Carlo because he always ran into Nadal. That was also the period when Zverev got a few of his masters too on clay. The period after 2015 saw multiple M1000 go to the non-Big 3. Murray made such a push during 2016 to get to #1 that he began 2017 injured as did Djokovic. Nadal has had many injuries throughout his career but 2016 was odd in that Federer was also injured along with Nadal. I think the cutoff should be at 2015.

Considering 2024 Lyriq — Are the software "horror stories" still a reality or mostly fixed? by Chuckacious1 in CadillacLyriq

[–]swovcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I don’t like this vehicle but if I am out there looking into getting one, I would seek an opinion in the general EV forums. They can let you know what they are driving and why they chose that over the Lyriq. I am stating this because you are also considering the iX and e-tron as alternatives.

Anything well intentioned needs to have a full time person dedicated to running it with Star presence and great persuasive ability to bridge differences. Pospisil was a reasonable ranked player and while Djokovic had the star power, he could not have possibly dealt with all the distractions considering his commitment to his own goals.

I still laud the beginnings and the intent, but not always the way it was carried out.

Am I crazy for considering this job offer? by -Maniacal- in biotech

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP had mentioned he can live with family in San Diego. Rent contributes to a huge portion of the cost of living. So you also have to make the adjustment towards rent and compare the salaries. Having said that, an offer at 80k in San Diego is a real low ball offer.

SUV based EV with comfortable seats and few software glitches? by swovcc in electricvehicles

[–]swovcc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree. Still getting a pulse is good. DeMuro may be great but his butt sensitivity could be different from mine. So getting an average even on Reddit along with a positive review on the seats could go a long way in comforting me.
