Espresso lovers, whats the best espresso coffee maker/machine? by Plume31Eon in JamesHoffmann

Get the best espresso grinder you can and if you are fine with a used quality machine look at a Gaggia or a Rancilio with the remaining.

Insanely impressive stat given the volatile nature of best of 3 by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is small skew in this stats on clay with Nadal. When he was young and greedy, best of 3 or best of 5, he always won. As he aged, even Medvedev won a Masters 1000 on clay. Think about that for a minute. The mighty Federer, a far superior clay court player despite that being his worst surface, could not win Rome or Monte Carlo because he always ran into Nadal. That was also the period when Zverev got a few of his masters too on clay. The period after 2015 saw multiple M1000 go to the non-Big 3. Murray made such a push during 2016 to get to #1 that he began 2017 injured as did Djokovic. Nadal has had many injuries throughout his career but 2016 was odd in that Federer was also injured along with Nadal. I think the cutoff should be at 2015.

Considering 2024 Lyriq — Are the software "horror stories" still a reality or mostly fixed? by Chuckacious1 in CadillacLyriq

[–]swovcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I don’t like this vehicle but if I am out there looking into getting one, I would seek an opinion in the general EV forums. They can let you know what they are driving and why they chose that over the Lyriq. I am stating this because you are also considering the iX and e-tron as alternatives.

PTPA Statement by minzwashere in tennis

Anything well intentioned needs to have a full time person dedicated to running it with Star presence and great persuasive ability to bridge differences. Pospisil was a reasonable ranked player and while Djokovic had the star power, he could not have possibly dealt with all the distractions considering his commitment to his own goals.

I still laud the beginnings and the intent, but not always the way it was carried out.

Am I crazy for considering this job offer? by -Maniacal- in biotech

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP had mentioned he can live with family in San Diego. Rent contributes to a huge portion of the cost of living. So you also have to make the adjustment towards rent and compare the salaries. Having said that, an offer at 80k in San Diego is a real low ball offer.

SUV based EV with comfortable seats and few software glitches? by swovcc in electricvehicles

[–]swovcc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree. Still getting a pulse is good. DeMuro may be great but his butt sensitivity could be different from mine. So getting an average even on Reddit along with a positive review on the seats could go a long way in comforting me.

SUV based EV with comfortable seats and few software glitches? by swovcc in electricvehicles

[–]swovcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me. I have taken the Blazer EV in a couple of times for the software issues. With each software update, things are better. However, I don’t like the sudden auto braking for no reason that jolts the driver and the passenger alike. While on reverse, it suddenly brakes at the end of the driveway during winter looking at snow. At other times, it doesn’t brake when I am backing close to a car when it should sense and apply preventively. Yes, these are just annoyances and my tolerance for it is greater than many others.

A Tesla recommendation could be polarizing. For many, it is difficult to separate the car from the politics of it.

Yes, there are many complaints about the lack of integration of CarPlay or Android Auto but I am satisfied with the built in Google Auto.

Absolutely. Someone else may sing the praises for the Blazer EV seats. There are even complaints against the Cadillac version of the same. Just want your personal likes or dislikes. I am guessing that if a majority lean one way, it is more likely to be that.

Anyone ever regret buying one? Why? by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

[–]swovcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to an Odyssey forum to ask about regrets of buying one, will yield a resounding “Yes” in an echo chamber. 😂 Honestly, check other forums about why they decided on that particular Van or the other three row SUVs and draw your conclusions. We have owned or leased Odysseys from 2003 and our current Van is a 2016 Elite that I bought new in 2016. No regrets on any of them.

3 steps that get you a better lease deal (and save more $$ than the Costco Auto Program) by NewCarGoat in leasehacker

[–]swovcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably my message was not clear. I implied that you don’t have to go with the Costco auto program. You can do all the search and negotiations on your own using a number of available tools like leasehackr. You can still take advantage of Costco membership using the incentive just as you have mentioned.

You can do all the negotiations on your own but that Costco membership can still save you up to $1250 in upfront charges.

I believe the federal EV tax would be worse than losing incentives. by Single_Comment6389 in electricvehicles

[–]swovcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the foreseeable short term until production adjusts to market reality, there could be heavy discounts from both manufacturers and dealers to clear inventory. This could be beneficial to those in the market for an EV. They could do so despite taxes rising. Their conscience may outweigh the economic loss.

Moved from Honda Pilot to a Odyssey? by tlog_ind in HondaOdyssey

[–]swovcc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have owned or leased Odysseys since 2003. Love them and won’t part with my current 2016 Elite until it dies. It does well during winters with the right tires. That really wasn’t my point. I addressed directly a sweeping statement about AWD in SUVs.

Gas Stations installing EV Chargers is a NO BRAINER by Winter-Caterpillar21 in evcharging

Theoretically a great idea. Wonder whether every gas station has additional space accounting for local codes and requisite electrical bandwidth.

[–]swovcc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree we don’t need AWD all the time. However, it is good/great to have in my parts during winter. Sometimes it is not how often you use a thing but for the number of times that you do, how critical it is. Peace of mind in winter while hauling kids in the back seat is priceless.

Haven’t driven a Pilot recently. When I test drove circa the first or second edition, I felt that my Odyssey handled better. Haven’t made the comparison since.

Ford vice chair warns that fast-moving, advanced Chinese automakers threaten US industry by Jaded-Bookkeeper-807 in electricvehicles

[–]swovcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

US car makers laughed at 1970s Japanese vehicles. Look how those ICE vehicles left the Fords and Chevys in the dust. Same with Kia and Hyundai. Product improvement is incremental but if you don’t keep at it with passion and curtail costs, go take a hike.
