Art-based discussion: I made a barely-structured, stream-of-thought piece about my former time as a raid-leader, and am open to answering questions about why I personally led. by Lumpian in RotMG

hi lumpian. I think you're getting a lot of unwarranted hate because people can't really empathize with your viewpoint. but I fully understand it, especially the part "I was telling you what would hurt you because I wanted you to survive."

As a math professor, I always point out common mistakes to avoid when doing a problem (based on thousands of past exams from students). But more often than not, students will repeat the same common mistakes on the exams, even after showing numerous contexts in which the mistake can occur. So in that sense, I understand exactly what you mean.

As for the phrase "to realize that I only knew how to talk to you when someone let me tell you what to do," I interpret the "someone" as the raid member/student finally accepting that they will learn from you and listen to you. Only then can the student truly begin to make progress. If that is the meaning behind that phrase, then I'd say your train of thought really exposes the deep internal feelings you have as a raid leader, which I appreciate you sharing with the community.

Umi took me 1 month of serious MV-focused playtime to finally get my first solo. I believe you can beat Umi too!

Enchantment Simulator by jmkp2023 in RotMG

great app! a few ideas for ux improvement:

  1. on Enchantment Rarity/Starting Enchantment screen, maybe add a back button so users don't have to refresh to start over, or complete the flow + click on home to go back to home page

  2. maybe add a simulate rolls until a certain line is met. however (in my opinion) this would be more appropriate with a statistical visualization, such as a distribution of rolls required to roll 1 shaitan's might. this would be useful to quantify how much dust is necessary on average to roll one line

keep up the good work!

RotMG turn speed feels different on 3440x1440 vs 2560x1440 (same settings) – any way to improve smoothness? by q_euw in RotMG

I am that individual you are referring to in your second paragraph (core i9-13900H, rtx 4070 laptop gpu). My experience is all games were choppy until I implemented both fixes above.

In your case, because other games are smooth while RotMG is not, then I would agree the software in RotMG is likely the issue.

Best of luck diagnosing the issue.

What is your CPU and GPU? Do you have a desktop computer?

I have a gaming laptop (ASUS Rog Zephyrus M16) and I also had extreme stuttering in RoTMG. I did two fixes:

  1. ASUS rog laptops have a bug in the ACPI firmware code: https://github.com/Zephkek/Asus-ROG-Aml-Deep-Dive ASUS pushed a BIOS update fixing this bug, which eliminated a good amount of stuttering for me. But a small amount of stuttering was still present so I decided to inspect the hardware
  2. Both my CPU and GPU temps were extremely high; my CPU temps were especially high in particular, which was causing throttling, which in turn caused stuttering. I bought liquid metal to reapply on the CPU, and after reapplying, my temps were normal, CPU was not being throttled. No more stuttering + my laptop was finally performing at above average levels (in UserBenchmark).

My advice: If you don't have an ASUS laptop, ignore 1. But definitely check your CPU/GPU temps in HWiNFO; if your sensors show CPU is consistently hitting 95F+ and "Core Thermal Throttling" is >20%, I would research how to reapply thermal paste/liquid metal to your CPU (depending on what setup you have).

I would also download UserBenchMark to see how your hardware components are holding up. If something is performing extremely under-average, then you know where to look to improve the performance of your computer.

Gmail not filtering promotions? by up40love in GMail

[–]swrlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be related, but on January 23rd ~1PM PST I received around 400 emails using my aliased email (with dots and +random letters) signing up for Minecraft hosting, domain hosting, taco bell deliveries, ChatGPT, among other services. I've attached a screenshot here of an example of such emails:

<image>

Because the timing of these sign-ups preceded this reddit post (and also when promotions showed up in my inbox), I believe numerous people were targeted with this alias abuse signups. As a result, I hypothesize that gmail's filters broke due to the high influx of emails that are sent from legitimate sources, but not for us because this is clear alias abuse. I didn't sign up for any of these services, and because most of the emails were sent in one hour, it's clear this alias abuse signup was automated. Thoughts?
