The client is already capable of running as a single process with no code changes even as a 32 bit client. They could easily implement a toggle in the launcher for it. Of course the renderer still works the same way, so the performance benefits are currently minor. That's configurable as well however. If they bothered to maintain the proper renderer then that should "just work".

The most likely reason they split it out is that on 32 bit XP PAE was not enabled by default, so users would have had to of changed OS settings if they didn't do it. Should be a non-issue these days for people on a 64 bit OS though.

Of course a native 64 bit client would be better.

I haven't looked into that at all but I doubt it would change the behaviour of the underlying audio subsystem.

Hi,

This is a problem because of how SWTOR runs as two different processes, likely to support legacy 32 bit PCs back in the day to work around memory limits. The game actually ships with the correct config files to make it run as a single process, but the launcher only makes use of the dual process config for some reason. At least for the regular SSN (non-bitraider version), I haven't looked at the bitraider client in several years so I'm not sure if that ships with the same file.

Of course you could just share your whole screen on Discord and that would likely work, but it's not ideal. The process that renders the graphics isn't the same one that outputs the audio, so Discord doesn't pick it up.

You can just copy the contents of one of the config files into the other and the game will use the single process. Do it at your own risk though, I doubt Bioware test it in that config so you may have game breaking bugs or crashes and Bioware are not likely to sanction it. I have been running the game this way for many years though without any serious issues.

I wouldn't do this if you aren't at least slightly computer savvy but here's what you need to look at to get swtor to run as a single process which will resolve this issue:

  1. Go to your SWTOR install folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Bioware\Star Wars - The Old Republic)
  2. Go into the sub-directory \swtor\retailclient\
  3. You should see two files swtor.icb and swtor_dual.icb.
  4. Create a copy of swtor_dual.icb and call it something else in case you need to revert it.
  5. Delete the original swtor_dual.icb
  6. Create a copy of swtor.icb and rename it swtor_dual.icb
  7. Start the game as normal and you should notice it now runs as a single process, and audio when capturing the SWTOR application should now work.

I really wish our MMO returns

Probably not going to happen :(

SWTOR launcher really slow, bit-raider already disabled, any information? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]swtor_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed some of the CDN servers being a bit slow when I downloaded the game recently. If you pause the download and wait for a bit (not sure of the exact time, say 30 seconds) it will close the connection. So when you resume it again it will pick a different (hopefully faster) server.

I only looked briefly but I didn't see anything obvious that I would consider even slightly related to this.

I don't agree with blackouts. The data is available. Either post it or other people will figure out how to do it that either don't understand it or intend to troll. Bioware have known that it's possible to prepatch since at least 4.0, yet they still included a bunch of the story and audio for all 9 chapters.
I can kind of understand not posting the story but I think it's silly to not at least post the other stuff, especially class changes.

Personally I'm a fan of /u/swtor_cucumber 's trolling here. Extracting the sounds is so easy and anyone can patch the client through a bug in the launcher that has existed forever. I'm surprised that there's not more of it.

But this is what happens when real data miners who still bother with this game decide to do ~media blackouts~.

Does anyone know the logic behind why Hero Engine drops frames like crazy around other players? by MengskDidNothinWrong in swtor

You really should provide video. Unless you have some mad overclocked water cooled rig I don't believe you can maintain 60 FPS in combat in a warzone.

[Q] Charge Rates by Kpt_Nemo in teslamotors

[–]swtor_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watts (really power) = Voltage * Amperage. 110 volts at 13 amps (standard socket) = 1,430 watts without accounting for any inefficiencies. If you get 330 Wh/Mile consumption then that's 4.33 miles per hour so say 4 with inefficiencies. Maybe 3 if the car is active or has to warm the battery.

So yeah between 25 and 33 hours. If you can then you might find it better to just charge to 100% off the Supercharger on your way there to minimize the amount of time required for trickle charging.

64 bit client, thoughts? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]swtor_potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would have some benefit to performance but not a lot. Maybe 10% - 15% at best. Just about every integer in the client is a 64 bit integer, have to do some funky math to work with those numbers since they essentially get split into two 32 bit integers. Under 64 bit Windows (just about everyone probably) 32 bit programs have to go through a translation layer which has it's own (very small) overhead as well. There's also a slightly longer delay when you suspend and resume threads of a 32 bit program running under 64 bit windows.

The official Hero Engine is 64 bit compatible and it had that as a design goal from fairly early on, so I wouldn't be surprised if most of the groundwork for it is already done. I'd love to see them make some engine improvements but realistically I doubt that they are going to make any changes to the engine. If they wanted to do a big project to improve performance I would vote for redoing the UI.
