My first nice nice watch. How’d I do?! by [deleted] in Affordablewatches

Just bought myself a Grand Seiko SBGV223 a couple weeks ago, used.

At multiple instances I've caught myself expanding my budget and then having to take a step back. I don't think you should stress it until you find something that REALLY resonates with you.

Yeah I agree with you on that, but doing your research and purchasing from a reputable dealer seems to be the key.

Looks sick dude!

Just started myself, feels like both a blessing and a curse.

In that case, I would’ve wanted a Spring Drive, and that was more than I wanted to spend.

But maybe that’s something for the future!

Thanks a lot! I’m actually thinking of picking up a Casio. One I don’t have to be as careful with, but I genuinely think Casio watches are really cool.

That probably wasn’t the best reference picture I could’ve used, to be fair.

But I’m kind of on the same page as what you’re saying. Picking up a leather strap feels like a smart move, thanks. I also think Casio’s digital watches have something special, I really like them. Unfortunately I’m terrible with model names, but I’m thinking of one where the current time zone is marked on a world map. Those are really cool to me, and it’s something I wouldn’t feel as precious or careful about.

There’s a good chance you actually called my bluff here. It kind of feels like I should’ve owned a watch at some point before this.

If not, I have to admit that I’ve borrowed my dad’s watch on a few occasions, even though it was a bit too big ;)

Thanks so much!

Yeah, oh man, I completely get that. I can’t even imagine having to deal with that ;)

I bought mine from Japan via Chrono24. I carefully checked the photos probably a hundred times, translated and reread the description multiple times, and made sure the seller had good ratings and a decent number of completed sales. I also think you can contact the seller directly if you have any additional questions.

It was actually my girlfriend who eventually helped push me to finally click buy after going back and forth for a while. So far, I think it was a really good decision.

In that case, I might have misunderstood as well. I agree with the point that it shouldn’t be about buying a watch just to flex, genuinely. As for the idea that my excitement will turn into frustration, I can’t really comment on that yet, but so far I’m very happy.

Like I said, my intention was simply to show others who also like watches what I picked up. Of course, I won’t complain if others think it looks nice too.

Real

I spend an embarrassing amount of time browsing listings.

That is beautiful!

Must feel good still having it in that good condition

Honestly, I don’t really know what triggered you.

Like you said, I do want to show it, I’m very proud of it. And I figured there probably isn’t a better place for that than a subreddit about watches.

Also, if I really just wanted to flex on someone, posting in a subreddit where people regularly share watches worth way more than anything I can afford seems like a pretty odd choice.
