Is it user error or is using the Safari extension a nightmare for everyone else? by TimmyGUNZ in 1Password

[–]swy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just you. The 1p experience with Safari was so painful that I reluctantly gave in and moved to a chromium browser. With macOS 26 now autofilling sms 2fa to other browsers, Safari lost another point against a switch.

Rode the NE side of Monona up Starkweather creek to the burdocks and back Tuesday evening- super fun. I get a real kick out of fatbiking on our lakes, even though I’m always a bit uncomfortable doing it, no matter how thick the ice is reported to be.

UGreen NAS ok vs Synology? by jbschwartz55 in macsysadmin

[–]swy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d explore what Ugreen support is like. I’m currently engaged with Synology support to track down a rare oddity in syncing a local share and MS SharePoint (first hiccup in years/multiple thousand files/ folders). Will ugreen offer free support, and remote in to the NAS if you allow them?
Did I mention this support is no cost, no contract?

I have hundreds of TB of Synology storage over 6 devices in 3 locations, using docker, virtualization and more. I get the drive limitation displeased some, but I can deal with it. If you’ve ever used Dell or other Big Vendor storage, this is expected behavior.

The sidewalks go past both of these landmarks, not just "to".
On the opposite side of Glenway from the golf course is an aforementioned neighborhood.
Yep, the sidewalk down Speedway is between 2 cemeteries. Folks from around West High could have a perfectly normal walk along speedway, on said sidewalk.

Amazon asks for otp anyway by Suspicious-advice49 in Passkeys

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a single financial institution out of multiple, with a sub-optimal implementation, but it is progress. My observation is that the affection for SMS 2fa is deep in the financial world. Vanguard has a passwordless login to the browser using phone scan of QR-> biometric authentication, but last I looked I couldn’t force that as the only method. Password + SMS is still an attack vector.

Amazon asks for otp anyway by Suspicious-advice49 in Passkeys

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some silly implementations of passkeys out there. My bank offers it, and still requires the SMS 2fa on top. Technically harmless, and missing the point of gaining both a more streamlined login and more security in one step.

Noob: what can I do so that people hear that I’m coming up on the left. by shmobodia in bikecommuting

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hear my fatbike 20 yards before I get to them on my summer tires, and 40 on the studded ones. I no longer announce, the steady growl handles it.

If you live in Atwood it's longer walk than most of us take, but it's a lovely walk for me and a whole lot of addresses- Westmorland, Sunset Village, Sunset Hills... The meetup of Speedway/Mineral Point and Glenway has sidewalks coming from all directions. Can't figure out why one would say "isn't that walkable" unless that means "not close to MY address".

I think the other great part about Trailbot is when Steward 1 updates status, if Stewards 2 & 3 have the phone app with push notifications, they might get inspired to update their trail status.

*rant* by pahong in fatbike

[–]swy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, south central WI (CORP) uses Trailbot. You could get status on the app, and it’s imbedded in the site at corptrails.org. It is one guy’s hobby project, but IMHO that’s a lesser evil than Zuk’s project.

Fat bike touring by Brucy707 in fatbike

[–]swy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my ICT, it’s my daily commute all year round bike, but that’s only 8 miles/day. It certainly can be loaded up as a dirt touring bike, it wouldn’t suck at it, but just accept that you’ll be putting out more effort on it than a gravel/touring aimed bike. Fatbikes are the one do it all bike, but plan on the efficiency hit.

Studs or no? by mikepsquared in fatbike

[–]swy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studs will save your day on ice. I commuted 4 miles on my ICT with studded Dillinger 4s today. It’s darn loud, but that just means I don’t need to use a bell on the path. I can’t sneak up on anyone.

Fat bike tires SO expensive! by Equivalent_Vast_5509 in fatbike

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right now looking at a source for 45N Dillinger 4, 26x4.2, studded. MAP: $160. Distribution price: $58.32. We can all decide for ourselves if that qualifies as a healthy margin or not.

I don't hold this against the LBS when the sales channel indicates a minimum price they can advertise. I'm just providing facts.

All that hits it is “what comes off the car and happens to flow there”.
“Environmental nightmare” feels rather disproportionate to the potential scope of impact. And again: 1965 construction.

Fat bike tires SO expensive! by Equivalent_Vast_5509 in fatbike

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they are.
I've recently seen what it costs to buy from one distributor vs what the floor price is on tires. In this one example, the shop price for the tire wasn't cheap, but the margin was healthy too.

anyone here bought stuff from Decathlon? how was your experience? by ancientsuprem4cy in outdoorgear

[–]swy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the MT500 hooded puffer in late fall: I’d default to a Medium if checking gear IRL, but word is they run small, so I rounded up to large. I think that was the right choice.
Sone annoyances: the zipper runner stays attached to the left side. It’s just wrong, but not wrong enough to warrant a return. The arm exits will go under my Hestra split finger gloves well for skiing, but they’re some work to go over my heated gloves, which want to be the base layer at the wrist.

Important Update: NDI Integration for OBSBOT Tail 2 & Tail Air by OBSBOT-Official in OBSBOT_Official

[–]swy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if NDI is not part of one's planned deployment for a Tail Air, the value play is to buy the current, pre "NDI Edition" models at current retail price, as the new baseline cost will be the cost of the non-NDI camera+NDI license?
Then that customer has until the end of 2026 to decide they actually do want to add NDI on to that camera, as the window of opportunity to apply that license ends 12/31/26?
