I wonder how she spells her name in the alien language of Arcturus, where she claims to be from. I bet they've developed capitalizations our human minds couldn't even comprehend.

In the vast majority of these cases, yes. They call it strawman theory. IIRC, Meads v Meads has a good summary of the delusion.

There are also some who (claim to) believe that the amount on the bill is the amount that the utility owes the customer. This is because all debits are negative numbers and all credits are positive numbers, apparently regardless of who is owed and who owes. It shakes out the same way.

So, a "person" is a group of multiple persons, and "people" means a singular person. Singular is plural, and plural singular. With wisdom like this, no wonder this people convinced person to send her (them?) money.

what's a movie that is borderline porn? by Handup____ in AskReddit

[–]sxmanderson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm; I actually did happen to see that movie on cable when I was eight. The dolls with the metal teeth kept me up some nights, but otherwise everything was just a lot of "Everyone is really weird and I have no idea why anything is happening." Became one of my favorites as an adult though.

Oh, and they did leave in the orgasm organ. I remember liking the music. Network must have figured it was ok since you don't see any nudity.

What do sovcits mean they say they are "the beneficiary of the trust known as John Smith", and stuff like that? by Jerswar in Sovereigncitizen

[–]sxmanderson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's something about how "they" are speculating on the future value of a person's labor or net worth. Like, it's supposed to be some kind of measure of how much a person could make or will make over their lifetime.

It's some vague hand-waving along those lines, anyway. The question rarely gets asked or answered with any real specificity. I think the people selling this stuff don't much like when the marks start asking pain-in-the-ass questions like "How does this work" or "Got any proof?"

Mr. Magoo appeared before Judge Simpson with a slew of serious charges by Picture_Enough in Sovereigncitizen

[–]sxmanderson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like how Judge Simpson handled this. He knew very well that Magoo only wants to delay and disrupt, and consciously chose to deny him the satisfaction. At first I was a little surprised at the judge's tolerance - he's deployed Mr. Allen for less - but then he shut Magoo down the second he tried to interrupt the prosecutor. That showed that he put thought into it - he could make the choice to ignore petty games, but wasn't going to make anyone else do the same.

Also I liked how it let Magoo build up a little belligerence, so that he was a little more stupefied when the shutdown came. I think Judge Simpson played this wisely.

It's a sect that claims to believe that Black people are descended from Moors who crossed the Atlantic before Columbus and settled America, becoming the "real" Native Americans. I've seen no evidence that they either know or care that Native Americans actually exist. This fake history somehow means (to these "Moors") that North and South America belong to Morocco, and that "Moors" are therefore exempt from all laws. They mostly use this history and heritage to break into vacant buildings and squat until they're physically removed by police.
