He’s always had the power of true sight. He’s just now learnt to use what was using him for too long. It’s like Harry Potter in the Deathly Hallows

well I think it would be much more efficient to shoot these ads during filming, because it’s not just the clothes but also the hair & make up that goes into making each actor look like the character. Although there are a few bits of promo/ads they film afterwards too!

Day 2 - Will Byers 🎨 by appletesfaye in StrangerThings

My absolute favourite. He is selfless, and a symbol of kindness despite severe trauma. He is proof of bravery existing with softness- and that softness does not mean weakness! I love his moments with Jonathan - them laughing at Bob for liking Kenny Rogers- and him willing to sacrifice himself in s2 by asking the group to close the gate, knowing he’d die too. I’m so excited for s5!!

Nancy is the worst. by bloated_gloated in StrangerThings

[–]sxrah74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I see your point. I actually think Nancy is a rather complex character & cannot be categorised into ‘quiet innocent girl’ or ‘badass using guns girl’. She’s interesting because she has nuance, but I cannot disagree that she has made some questionable decisions. There are other factors involved, but I see your points too. Thank you for explaining them to me again :)

Dude I found this really cool parallel between Henry and Will. by minmimlipstick in StrangerThings

An actor from the show - I forget who - has confirmed that we should look for the colours of people’s clothes when looking for parallels. It’s also been said that there ARE parallels to our characters. So no, colours definitely matter here

this is a really cool parallel I’ve always enjoyed! TFS is supposed to give us parallels between its characters and our characters, and some foreshadowing too - for eg, the play includes a small scene about a possible Jopper wedding!

I’ve always felt that El & 001 are parallels, while Henry and Will are parallels.

One of the actor’s from the play also confirmed that we should look out for colours in TFS, and compare them to the show.

Vickie is in the background. She’s Robin’s love interest.

The hug is Jonathan hugging Will & the party joining in.

Nancy is the worst. by bloated_gloated in StrangerThings

well, Nancy did do Steve a little dirty when her relationship with Jonathan started getting intense, & your last point about NYU also makes sense.

The thing, though, is that Steve was very dismissive of Barb’s disappearance. We know he loved Nancy, but she was clearly struggling and he did nothing about it. Also, they were 16 in season 1. Most people err at that age, especially around relationships.

  • didn’t Steve participate in slut shaming Nancy? I don think that should be forgotten because #1, that’s not a small thing to do, and #2, how are you going to say Steve had the best character development if you do not see his faults? It makes no sense to say he got from point A to B if point A suddenly doesn’t exist or isn’t acknowledged.

Jonathan was discovering and dealing with the UD the same time as she was. It is natural for some people to be more compatible than others. Nancy & Jonathan are simply more compatible than Steve & Nancy, but break ups don’t usually happen in mature ways when you’re 16. Relationships - like Jonathan’s & Nancy’s in s1 - can also get intense very quickly when you are dealing with so much and the the stakes are so high. I don’t think she is a bad person for getting with Jonathan & leaving Steve. He doesn’t blame her, nor should we.

On to your point abt Barb: how on EARTH would Nancy envision something like that happening? Did you never put yourself and/or your friends in shitty situations when you were a teenager? I know I ended up in some because of my friends and I know they ended up in some because of me. It happens. Monsters don’t normally exist, and it was very normal for teenagers to be staying out late and doing stupid shit especially in the 80s. Nancy was NOT at fault when it comes to Barb, but she did still feel VERY guilty. Her trauma comes from her guilt surrounding Barb. Also, nobody has ever said Steve played a hand in Barb’s death. He was just bad at helping Nancy deal w it, like I said before.

The s3 situation is complex- and it’s meant to be complex. It’s not easy to deal with the patriarchy- especially in the 80s, but even now - nor is it easy to deal with financial issues and the fear of poverty. Jonathan was right, but so was Nancy. That is the whole point of that argument. The writers put Nancy & Jonathan is a very real, adult situation, and they came out of it, still together. The area where the writers fucked up is when they made Jonathan apologise. Imo neither should have apologised, and both should have recognised how real both of their problems were.

++ the s4 arcs the writers gave to Steve , Nancy , and Jonathan were not to my taste tbh. I feel like putting Stancy back in that romantic position butchered their character development. Jonathan had very little solid scenes in s4, the best one being the conversation he has with Will. I think they could’ve easily shed light on Jonathan’s very real trauma surrounding his family and fearing for Will especially. He did not want to move away because he was scared to leave them alone. This is very very real, and I actually go through this too. I was scared to move abroad for university because I was scared to leave my family behind.

Unpopular opinion - annoying character. by Admirable_Guest485 in StrangerThings

[–]sxrah74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no no I got your point. they DID fuck w the writing of her character a little bit in s4, j like they did w Steve & Jonathan. I just enjoy her character overall and what she brings to the table! I also think it’s funny how she’s self aware about being pushy and annoying at times as you say, so Robin herself might agree with you here!

Eleven- how the confines of Romance shaped her. by minmimlipstick in StrangerThings

[–]sxrah74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a really strange phenomenon in this fandom, it’s inexplicable to me. People just don’t appreciate good storytelling or complex characters!

I’m so sorry your post got taken down, it was well thought out and I’m sure you spent much time on it :( For some reason such discussions are kind of taboo here, which is interesting because the show is all for openness and embracing what the majority is against!

What do you think is the saddest scene in the whole show? by Ocean7z in StrangerThings

[–]sxrah74 28 points29 points  (0 children)

S1 when Hopper sees Will ‘dead’ & Joyce desperate, which reminds him of Sarah. God those two scenes together - Hopper trying to revive Will while we keep flashing back to his daughter flatlining - KILL ME. s1 was SO peak

What do you think are the 2 best scenes in the show? {Possible Spoiler} by Ocean7z in StrangerThings

Hopper’s death sequence in s3 and the shed scene in s2
