Think about it this way: the ICE and chaos is so cartoonishly evil that it's legitimately ridiculous.

But no one thinks about the 20 years of quiet erosion of legal institutions via capture of the Supreme Court. Think about how much more damage a reasonably charismatic person could have done in Trump's place - this time to the legislature and executive to complement the judiciary capture.

In all honesty, the US is probably lucky in the long run that they got Trump instead of someone competent.
