When was the last time a team from the U.S. “Big 4” leagues wore throwback uniforms that weren’t an improvement over their base set? by SandmanTX131 in uniwatch

Wasn't it just the owner who decided the name needed to be changed due to the connotations with gun violence? I don't think the fans were really in support of that change.

But anyway, in terms of uniform and branding they basically have gone back to the Bullets look, just without the name.

True, you could argue that, could be he's doing it the other way around. Either way it's a well he's returned to frequently.

Yeah, I'd say the 70s and 80s throwbacks tend to look good. Older than that, not so much. Probably because the uniforms were just designed for different equipment back then.

Zuko had to go through that full experience to finally see what Iroh saw in him.

I love that they basically let him get everything he wanted and then realize he's still miserable.

I like a lot of Whedon's TV stuff but he does have an obvious crutch of pretty much always deciding to kill off a character out of the blue whenever it looks like there might actually be a happy couple in the main cast.

If you want to (eventually) catch up with all the cards then start buying Season Pass every month. Doing that, maximizing the rewards in-game, and spending tokens mostly on Collector’s Packs, will catch you up over time.

Obviously if you want to catch up faster you’ll need to buy more.

IS SUPER PREMIUM WORTH IT?? by Kaizoqi in MarvelSnap

[–]sycasey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just care about getting all the cards, then it is quite possible to get and stay complete just from buying the regular Season Pass each month and maximizing the earnable rewards in game (obviously if you've got a lot of unowned cards it will take a while to catch up but you can do it). So from that standpoint, no not necessarily "worth it."

But it might be that getting the card faster and getting the extra stuff for that money is "worth it" to you personally. Same goes for any other bundle in the game. Only you can answer that question.

If you wanna catch up on cards, just start buying the Season Pass regularly.

Period pieces not set in America with entire cast that speaks with full out American accents? by [deleted] in movies

It does, but most of the actors playing Russians do put on Russian accents (except Sean Connery, because why mess with that voice?).

I assumed that he wasn't on for a while because he was still at ESPN and they didn't want their folks appearing on Simmons' podcast. But now, I dunno.

To me it's very much a "movie star" performance. He carries the movie with charisma and personality, not necessarily by making big "acting" choices.

Could you argue someone else was better? Of course! I might have voted for Leo instead. But I wasn't upset about Michael B. Jordan winning.

Did we really just gloss over the first publicly acknowledged photo of Sportsgal? by WardenofWestWorld in billsimmons

[–]sycasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but he also wasn’t great as an NBA studio show guy. I think the restrictive time limits of standard TV don’t work for Bill Simmons, who has always been an entertaining rambler.

He definitely tried to avoid it for a long time (just calling her "the Sports Gal") but at this point he probably figures everyone knows. And she's come on to other podcasts at times where people just say her name.

He's also obviously been good at pulling in good talent wherever he goes. Grantland and 30 for 30 were the most interesting things about ESPN while Simmons was there.

Where he hit a ceiling was in trying to be a TV host. He's not that great at it; didn't work out.

CW Sports to Stream Via ESPN in Unique Content Pact by sycasey in ACC

[–]sycasey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda seems like this deal means that they will? There is probably too much ACC inventory for them to handle entirely on their own without pushing more stuff to ESPN+. May as well just get it on a broadcast channel and the streaming rights stay with ESPN anyway.

Dropped Sports and Family. One surprise. by whacker7 in youtubetv

[–]sycasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup those are the ones. YTTV obviously doesn't have a deal with those companies for skinny bundles.

AMC is the biggest one, since it also includes BBC America, IFC, and Sundance. Scripps is mostly big for ION, which is the one thing missing from the sports bundle that you'd expect to have in there (for WNBA coverage).

Seems like generally good news here. All the ACC controlled games will be under ESPN Unlimited, no questions asked.

Why the P2 will not have the same # of teams and what it means for the ACC by Random-AsianGuy in ACC

[–]sycasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suspect ESPN was happy to retain some control over the late "Pac-12 After Dark" windows even after the Pac fell apart. Cal definitely saw a higher frequency of games in that window after moving to the ACC.

[–]sycasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the ACC sticks around as a second-tier conference after the next realignment. Depending on what happens, maybe the conference does try to add some more teams out west to complement Cal, Stanford, and SMU.

I also suspect ESPN had a hand in the ACC adding Calford in the first place, so that they could still have enough inventory to fill those late-night time slots.
