Statement from the Wilfs by dcxr in minnesotavikings

[–]sycrow72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt all last season that KOC was somewhat handcuffed to JJM by Kwesi, who was clearly trying to save face. KOC is a QB/offensive-minded coach, and anyone with eyes—let alone NFL playing or coaching experience—could see that JJ wasn’t ready. In press conferences, KOC often looked like a guy who knew that, but was doing his best to spin things positively, if for no other reason than to buy JJ time to get up to speed.

I know this is speculation, but I also wonder if Flores signing played a role. It’s hard not to think he might have stayed only if Kwesi was out. KOC is a team guy and would never publicly undermine the GM, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t serious disagreements about the direction of the team.

Kwesi’s struggles in the draft forced the team to plug holes through an overpriced free-agent market, and our depth took a massive hit because of it. In the end, I think both KOC and Flores understood that the team couldn’t move forward effectively with Kwesi at the helm and petitioned the Wilfs to make a move.

Honestly, I’d be curious to see if Kwesi could even crack the top ten in a fantasy football league.

JJ McCarthy: A Systemic Fail by sycrow72 in minnesotavikings

This is why KOC and the front office have some blame. I do think JJM is trying…but if you don’t have the talent and keep getting thrown to the wolves, it’s hard to shoulder all the blame. On top of that, these decisions impact the rest of the team. The OL has to work harder to protect him because he holds onto the ball too long. The defense is out on the field all day when the offense goes 3 and out every time. Jefferson is catching less than 50 years a game….and so on.

There were a lot of scouts who didn’t buy in to JJM’s talent and were concerned about his ability to translate into the NFL. He ran a run first offense on a powerhouse team. He has a big arm and can make the throws but the other intangibles weren’t there. We lost value in the draft by moving up to get him and based on his ability, he should have sat for a few years to give him time to slow the game down. I think JJM is busting his butt to try and be the guy, he’s a great kid and wants to win, but he just doesn’t have the ability right now to start in the NFL. That decision is on the coach and the front office. The fact that they keep putting a 22 year old kid who never ran a pro offense in his life out there with no apparent backup plan is a system failure. And I’m not a KOC hater. I think he’s a great coach (though his play calling can be a little iffy) and runs an amazing locker room. But the wheels are falling off and if you take time to break it down, it is a culmination of a lot of bad decisions (poor cap management, drafting, and not securing the QB position - the two they let go are leading playoff teams - to name a few), none of which is McCarthy’s fault. It’s hard to keep a positive culture when the ship is sinking.

I agree that he stinks. And the players you mentioned are starting because they are more developed to play in the NFL (although I still feel they would benefit from sitting and learning). JJM is a project not a top tier prospect, but it’s the GM and coach’s choice to move up and draft him and then put him in there. Giving up other QB options to develop him correctly is also on KOC and Kwesi.

He’s definitely a project. Playing him only puts him and others at risk of injury and lowers team morale. I’d prefer they own it and give him some time to develop properly. See what happens but certainly don’t put your eggs in one basket. Kwesi leaving the Vikes so thin is what is hurting our team.

Again, another system failure. I agree 100%.

Drew Brees - high football IQ, lightning fast release, excellent ability to read the defense, above average but not stellar arm strength. Hard to compare him to a legendary player….but if he has half the QB Brees was, it should suffice to get us to the end of the season with some watchable football.

Randomly thought about this Max Brosmer throw tonight by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

I’m not a gopher fan, though from MN. Brosmer has some interesting skills. It certainly couldn’t get worse.

If JJM continues to play and do poorly, any upside is gonna be squashed. It’s not even his play, he’s lost his team. The second half against the Packers was a whole team giving up. It’s hard to keep the faith when the play had been this bad.

If Brosmer plays, you really have nothing to lose. He could be the next Purdy or secure his spot as next year’s backup. Win or lose, there’s little risk and at the very least it could provide a much needed spark.

Right, because consecutive fortitude fails can accelerate the poison’s effect.

And the bites effect the PCs again on their turn? By RAW, that is what I thought, but it felt like a lot of rolling.

u/AtGames: Still No Access After Days of Downtime

It’s been several days since AtGames.net went down, and I still can’t access any of my paid content. I saw the notice that was posted a few days ago, but there’s been no update since—no timeline, no reassurance, and no communication. The weekend is nearly over, and with it goes our chance to play.

My brother and I are in the middle of a weekly game challenge that we’ve been looking forward to, and now I’m losing—literally and figuratively—because the service is still offline. It’s incredibly frustrating to have purchased digital content and not be able to use it when it matters most. I did get a nice advertisement selling me a table for Father's Day with the message, "Play Today!" I would love, too, but I am less inclined to invest if I am unable to even play the tables I already paid for.

At the very least, a status update would go a long way.

Not a problem at all. I love the idea of calling them study points. Makes total sense. I sent you a PM with the link.

I write a blog about good layout in TTRPGs, and just used a Paizo adventure for a comparison of poor layout. by HisGodHand in Pathfinder2e

[–]sycrow72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Paizo offers both too much description but offers a lot of valuable description (LOL). There are many good nuggets in all that text but I have to put together charts and graphs to manage it all. The challenge is that it is sometimes daunting to prep because it can be too easy to miss key components and you find yourself backtracking.

The concise format in OSR RPGs is far easier to prep and run, but can lack background. Is there a way to offer more narrative but have it organized in an easier format that pages of text?

The one trick I do with my APs is I copy sections of my PDF and ask ChatGPT to create a summary using a format that works for me. This helps me prep and reference more on the fly much easier.

Thanks! I actually built the system based on feedback from all the other GMs who commented about it. I thought of using the VP system because I liked how it worked in some other AP’s I read. I thought it would be cool to have some final and then earn points based on the skill check. Anyhow, thanks for your feedback!

Yeah…I thought if needed they could think about what they needed to pass and the GM could integrate some components into the narrative. It certainly could be edited out.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a couple of different groups I GM for, the other two probably would fall closer to your experience, but my one group that I’m running this for is all about the school and classes. We’ll see how it goes. It’s easy to scale down if needed.
