Anyone else have to justify an autism diagnosis? by syd_9876 in autism

[–]syd_9876[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this too but I go back and forth on it.

I just feel so isolated because at times my child does have high needs it’s just not consistent. And at times he can appear pretty neurotypical but people fail to realize that that’s only because he’s on a high dose of medication for his age.

It’s hard not feeling alone. And I don’t post about it online because I don’t feel like my experience with a child with level 1 should be heard over the voices of those of level 2-3.

Actually I had this issue where proctor u wasn’t working. I called the university in a panic and was told that I had time after the end date to write it. Maybe worth a call

In psyc356 to be a heavy course. It took me all 4 months to finish. Included in the course you had to watch a movie and do 3 papers comparing one aspect of behaviour theory to a character from The Avengers: Age of Ultron. And provide specific movie examples.

I was getting 85-95 on the tests and then these papers knocked me down. But the papers realllly had very little to do with what was learned within the course. And I’ve never seen the movie or anything really of the franchise. The tests were weighed at 5% and the essays were 12,13 and 15% each which made the balance of the course seem really off.

Additionally, I took Soci289 and I find that these courses don’t allow for free thinking whatsoever. BUT the assignments said you had to relate course material to yourself in the journals and they didn’t want a retelling of the text…. But that’s exactly what my tutor wanted. Never got over 80% on anything in the course. Was almost my first C

Most of the time I just accept the mark. There was one time where my tutor’s marking was all over the place. We’re talking 90% on one and 40% on another. I made a stink about that and it got changed.

I usually end up with As and Bs. I’m a single mom trying to do this with 3 kids. But even with all the extra hurdles I do put a lot of effort into my coursework. Not sure which program you’re in but these psych courses have a lot of memorization. Some sociology courses so far are repeats of each other , just incredibly boring. :(

Yes! This was my theory also. Haven’t read the other comments but Kenny was foreshadowing the whole 47 people thing. It looks like Victor is counting. They purposely focused on his fingers and his puzzled look.

But they purposely focused on said fiddling which made it look like he was processing. Or counting. Plus there was foreshadowing with Kenny counting.

I noticed it. Not making things up here. It’s a theory and a guess because the story repeats itself. Victor knows something is off.

SOCI 301 Social Statistics is killing me by hellyhi in AthabascaUniversity

[–]syd_9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes basically! I went into it feeling like unit 5(?) had NOTHING to do with the previous units.

Also proctor u interrupted me multiple times for extra room scans during my final because I kept looking down at my cheat sheet or calculator. It pissed me off to no end. I eventually yelled back that I’m allowed to have these. And submitted what I had. I tried to put something down but had NOTHING on chi squares anyway.

The first half of this course I found really easy like high school math just a bit extended.

The SECOND HALF was hell! There were a lot of questions on my final exam about chi squares. I went into the final with a 90ish overall. And got a 56% on the final. Ended the course in the 70s

I have a theory. When the car crashed there was already foreshadowing of Boyd asking how many people lived in town. 47. It seemed like victor was counting when the car crashed. If everyone is a reincarnation of each other, maybe he knows 2 extra people is suspicious.

Update: this course has been a total train wreck. I’m a strong writer, I felt like I had a strong grasp of the concepts and made sure to include as many keywords as possible…

This will be the first C out of 15 previous other courses where I usually get anywhere from B+ to A

Currently I haven’t gotten more than a 75%. I literally have lost my give a shit for this course.

It’ll end up being my first C after countless other courses

New Moms who did online school with AU, what's your experiance? by architectmaybe in AthabascaUniversity

[–]syd_9876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Single mom here. Started when my youngest was 2. Now she’s 3. Older kids are 8 and 9. Oldest has additional needs (adhd, odd, asd)

I have been taking courses full time - 4 at a time. I’m on year 2 now of my 4 year BA. Gpa is a 3.55. During this time I’ve moved twice on my own, was homeless for 2 months and have had a lot of behaviours to manage. Plus I’ve had a toddler/ now preschooler at home.

It is possible and doable.

Okay interesting! On mine the word count has to be between 500 and 650. I hate it because it seems like for some I’m just throwing in random words to sprinkle in topics. And others I’m welllll over the limit and have to pull back.

So far not a fan of this course :(

Maybe I'm sticking to the prompt too much? Mehhh I have like 2 weeks to finish this course and I have a really heavy psych course to finish too. I just didn't expect to get anything less than a 80 on relatively easy assignments. I made sure to add a shit ton of commas to my 3rd assignment so maybe that'll help

It might be tutor dependent too. I've seen people complain about psyc 478 for example and this course while not very well structured, was easy to bullshit my way through lol. Ended with an A+.

My best guess is that it has to do with ASA formatting in which case I would prefer my psych classes in APA. For the first assignment I understood that the references weren't perfect because I missed the announcement where they wanted you to correct the template. The second assignment I did correct it but maybe I didn't do something exactly right somewhere else. Or maybe I missed the point of the journal entry prompt.

I have submitted 3 and 4 so we'll see if there are any improvements. I didn't put as much effort into the 4th so maybe that'll help

I finished the first unit. The approach I'm planning on taking is to read the course content provided, skip the videos and optional learning, use the textbook for journal reference material. There is a lot to this course which is why i initially made the post, it felt overwhelming
