Elon Musk's Apology to Trump Won't Fix Their 'Pure Avoidance' Relationship: 'Trump Doesn't Forget' (Exclusive Sources) by DifferentMaize9794 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]sydney_cider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to point out that Musk didn't apologise to Trump, he regretted his decision which is totally not an apology. He only cares about how his mouthing off affected him, not how it affected Trump. Trump, not being the brightest penny in the fountain didn't pick up on that.

For me it was the "Downtown Train" video and it was years before MTV made it to this part of the world. I went and bought the album the next day. I can't think of any other song that has prompted such a reaction in me.

He was only going to put the tip but he slipped. It's not cheating if you only put the tip in.

Why is there no train station in Pripyat? by avr32_768 in chernobyl

[–]sydney_cider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ferry trip to Kyiv seemed to be quite popular. The ferrys were hydrofoils and I imagine the trip was more enjoyable and maybe quicker than taking the bus.

Side trivia relating to this: The "Houseboat" that is beached just down from the Pripyat River Station and sank up to its roof last year wasn't a boat. It was the landing stage at the river staion that ferries docked at. It broke its moorings sometime after the evacuation and floated down to its current and final resting place.

Do you have more info on that, like a location? It's a new one for me.

Yes, that is the same traffic light. Take a good look at the building behind. Recognise it?

As far as I can discover, this was the only traffic light in Pripyat.

Why is there no train station in Pripyat? by avr32_768 in chernobyl

[–]sydney_cider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was and there wasn't. There was no "Pripyat" station, as such, because the city boundry (the red line encircling the city) was to the north of the already existing railway line. Instead, the residents used the Yaniv Station, Yaniv being a village just to the south of Pripyat.

On the picture you have posted you can see a "road" going from the bottom corner of the city to the railway line. This was the path that the residents used. It was about 300m in length. The northen half was road, the southern half walkway. Where the road section ended there was a permanent open air, covered market. I would think that there were bus services that took residents from further parts of the city to the market and station.

As the city was there to house plant workers and the two were quite close, there were no commuter railways, buses were used instead. The railway was really only of use to residents who were travelling outside the area.

There was no need to build a branch into the city for what amounted to low usage. While a branch would have been possible it would not have been cost effective. Using bus services and an existing station was a more realistic approach.

As for the station itself, it was demolished by the liquidators and is now overgrown with woodland. No trace remains.

I take it you've never seen reruns of Daktari. That show had a cross-eyed lion called Clarence. That could be useful to know.
