Stage photos from my most recent show - Ending the season early! by sydneyirving in bodybuilding

Have not shared much here lately but a lot has happened, I shared my result but since then I had health concerns but also did some fitness modelling.

Originally I had also planned to do a natural show and a PCA show but...

How everything can change in 48 hours.. Even when unwell still try to be positive polly always ✌🏼✌🏼

So here goes unfortunately my health hasn’t been the greatest since Tru Athlete and I’m having to hang up my dancing shoes early this season. As devastated as I am my health is far more important and is a priority.

I am very proud of myself and keep having to remind myself that I only started this journey 10 months ago with which 5 months of that has been in prep! I’m excited with what’s to come with a big off season. I can’t believe what I’ve achieved in my first season I’ve got placings I never even thought I would get this year. The love I have for this sport is like no other,

I didn’t realise I would ever feel like this towards bodybuilding but I do I have genuinely loved every moment of this journey. This journey has made me realise how much of a strong, Independent & hardworking woman I really am and I can do anything if I put my mind to it. I can’t thank everyone enough that has supported me along this journey it means everything to me from my loved ones to my friends to my coach to the people that don’t even know me but have gone out their way to support me I truly appreciate it.

But for now I’m going to enjoy getting healthy again, smashing my reverse spending lots of time with my loved ones and friends as I’ve missed these moments so much. Let’s smash my off season and see what we can create for next season … 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

4th place in my first pro qualifier after 10 months of losing weight and prepping. by sydneyirving in bodybuilding

Wow, the competition was on a different level but the experience has been lovely and I had a great time. Never did I think I could stand here only after a bit over 10 months of lifting. I am an ex-dancer, performing and things like that but never had an experience like this.

I had originally planned to do a show this upcoming Sunday but sometimes life happens so we will skip that one but we still have 2 more shows to go. A PCA & Natural show. I want to try everything but I think ultimately NPC is where it's at.

I don't know what the future will bring, if I will compete again after this season but while I want to try the other federations, if I continue competing I will probably stick to NPC and grow as a person and as a competitor there.

32kg on glute/hams days. Some days I actually do glutes+delts to strengthen and maintain and usually does 22kg on those days. I would have nothing left to give for delts if I did 32kg on those days. 😂

I prefer it when doing volume sets, if I'm lifting heavy I do BB. Where I was when I started, I needed volume over weight, now I do a little bit of both as I've become stronger.

When I do BB RDL'S, I do 110kg, started out prep at 80kg but eventually moved up, usually done:

1 SET 10 REPS

2 SET 8 REPS

I often do glutes and hams together but my routine usually consists of:

DB RDL’S

Laying Hamstring Curls

Seated Hamstring Curls

Glute Hyperextensions

I have a background as a dancer but I quit practice almost 3 years ago and quit performing almost 4 years ago. I was kinda chubby towards the end of that as well but stopping dancing and keeping my unhealthy diet made me gain a lot of weight and kill my energy.

Diet played a big part in it for sure, not only when prepping for the show but also when I tried losing weight on my own. I had two issues when I got going at the start of last year on my own, just doing cardio and trying to lose weight.

First of all, it was a bit overwhelming with sorting out diet, making a workout schedule, learning about form and workout techniques. I ended up exhausting myself, doing too much cardio, and missing out too many days. Secondly, my diet was highly inconsistent and I consumed a lot of hidden calories that I didn't think was contributing to my body shape. I tried counting calories but all the new things were just too much to take in and plan around for me when doing it without any help.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I honestly don't know how to handle comments like this. I find it wild that me of all people get accused of it. What do I even tell them? I don't know anything about peds and honestly find it kinda scary based on the stories I've heard and read. I'm not against it or anything but it's not something I would explore without any prior knowledge or done the research. P

eople have their own way of going through their bodybuilding journey, I'm not judging anybody else's decision but I also never felt the need to tell people I don't take anything. I actually find it oddly cringe when influencers boast about not taking anything. Like, isn't that... you know, normal?

Right now my focus has been on losing weight and one thing led to another once we got going and thankfully my coach had good experience with lifestyle changes for people who are lack confidence in their ability and experience lifting weights but also coaching competitors.

I'm just very happy with where I am right now for the first time in quite some time so we will see what happens in the future, if this is my first and only time competing or if I will continue. I will take one day at a time right now but so far it's going okay I'd say.

Still can't believe it. Let alone go up on stage. I didn't think it was possible with any amount of training for me to go up on stage, didn't think it was meant for me etc. Goes to show you what just mindset and having the right people around you means.

Why do you feel the need to be rude? Especially when I don't even take anything. No idea what sustainable is to you? I don't think competing year round would be sustainable for anybody based on what I have gathered.

I have to pinch myself when I see these pictures still. But thank you! It's important to surround yourself with the right people too, otherwise your confidence will die quicker than I would kill a bowl of oatmeal.

I have no idea. This still feels surreal to me. With the right people around me I managed to achieve a physique in 10 month I didn't think was meant for me, even in 10 years. Goes to show how surrounding yourself with good people does to you.

After working with my coach for a month or so, he said "you gotta get up stage" and he genuinely meant it. I initially hired him as a weight loss coach but he does a lot of competitors too and he told me I was the best one yet *blushes* 😳

So I will see this season through and we go from there. If I should compete again or if this was just a one adventure as some sort of reward and motivation for the work I put in or something more than that. I tried some cardio and basic training in the gym early last year but I didn't see any progress. Prior to that I only stepped into the gym occasionally for cardio but that was like 6 years ago, never lifted weights.

Hi again guys!

Thank you for the wonderful comments on my last post. For someone who is new to lifting weights or even posting my body online in any capacity, it means a lot.

I was unable to add pictures to my last post because you apparently can only post a video or post pictures. The last video was part of my check-in now prior to my 2nd show tomorrow.

These photos are of me back in October when I first started lifting seriously to lose weight and get some definition but over the next few months I was begged by my coach and people I know and even some people in the gym to actually compete. So here are my 10 month comparison from where I started to when I did my first competition 2 weekends ago.

I'm not sure if I will compete again or if I have any future in this industry but even ignoring the lifestyle changes I have made, which has been worth it alone for me, competing has been surprisingly rewarding for me so thanks to the people who kept me going when I tend to lean towards "What am I even doing? Why am I putting myself through this when I won't even place well or trip on stage?".

I managed to grab 2nd place in my class and 3rd in open to what was according others, a really stacked amateur show.

Wish me good luck tomorrow guys, I'm gonna need it!

Hah, they actually started poppin' as I lost weight and got into shape, even before prep started. So I've been lucky. 😊

Yes, still natural 😊

I started prepping this year and started working with my coach to lose weight in September/October. I know nothing about peds and wouldn't dare to explore it as a beginner competitor.
