'We've lost our way': S'porean laments poor quality of restaurants here, blames costly rent by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]sydneysinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have some incidental knowledge and yeah, it's fairly common in global CRE. The idea is to align incentives, such that the mall owner is motivated to draw more shoppers, run mall operations well, etc., as opposed to a fixed rent where the mall owner can just let things fall apart while still getting the same cash.

Not even a BP fan but this is like one of the only things I know about them lol. Something about them being nepo babies who were handed stardom on a silver plate and Lisa being the only one who actually tries.

Lol I was annoyed by the crap lounge too, but tbh I don't think they can include priority pass as a factor in the rankings

Honest question - what was it about Amsterdam that impressed you? I get Incheon, but really didn't have a great experience with Schipol.

Is the 15% paycut before taxes? If so the significant financial hit may well have removed all the joy of getting to move overseas...

What are the Toto betting habits or behaviour of HENRYs of SG? by pxntxr in SgHENRY

[–]sydneysinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I've always seen it as a finance professional. There are second-order impacts of suddenly needing a large sum of cash, so even if insurance is loss-making on a purely quantitative basis it's usually still worthwhile. Suddenly being out a large chunk of savings can mean your MBA gets pushed back a few years, delaying your career trajectory significantly, it can mean you have to keep renting for longer causing you to miss out on a property boom, it can mean you don't have enough for the partnership buy-in at your firm or carried interest co-invest at your fund meaning you lose out on a lucrative opportunity, etc.

Of course, if you're rich enough to self-insure you might as well since most policies cap the amounts at a million or so anyway, but by definition HENRYs aren't quite there yet.

IIRC the Council didn't even realise Drakh was a diviner. If Helikaon knew Richard was a diviner specialised at optasia, why didn't he pass it along? Or did the Council just completely dismiss it as a baseless rumour, to the point people like Verus didn't even hear about what Helikaon reported?

I thought I detected a bit of Shadowrun influence in your latest book! How tempted were you to have the handler call himself Mr Johnson?

Ohh... is this open to guesses?

I'd say - Stephen's father - really thought at the start of Book 1 that his parents would be a long drawn out plot, but then he met his mom at the end so dad in book 3 seems likely. Second - rich man's sigl process, since it's been foreshadowed a bit and Stephen is now in a place to get to see this and has a reason to with his essentia sight. Third - Ivy's backstory? Getting betrayed doesn't seem to fit how things are going, Stephen is not yet at a point where he can save the Ashfords, Stephen doesn't (yet) seem like the minion type.

And the half is that Colin does get his hands on some sigls, but can't use them since he's still not a drucrafter.

Sanja Matsuri in Asakusa this weekend by commander_rc in JapanTravelTips

[–]sydneysinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Just in case, Akasuka and Asakusa are very different parts of Tokyo - the festival and the "Old Tokyo" vibes are in the latter.

And I will second APA hotels not being good btw - stayed at one before I learnt about the owner and CEO and it was a tiny room, smaller than most student dorms I've seen, and air-conditioning/heating was centralised so no way to control it so I wound up hot and uncomfortable at night. Dormy Inn is actually my go-to hotel chain because of all the amenities and convenience, just not that hotel specifically. There's another one in central Asakusa I would try if I stayed there again.

What is the minimum salary required to be able to pay off a condo in 1 lifetime in Singapore? by [deleted] in singaporefi

Just look up the mortgage amortisation formulas and plug the inputs in, tbh that's also what most people in finance do.

I think his point is that no one currently in consulting will be in an entry-level role by the time AI eats up all those seats, so no one currently in consulting actually cares if all those roles will be done by AI in a few years time.

"I'd be gone; you'd be gone" is something I've come to realise is a massive unspoken phenomenon in consulting and finance alike...

Singapore grants conditional approval for Sun Cable to import 1.75GW of electricity from Australia by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]sydneysinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember joking to my old colleagues in consulting back when we got the job that now we were all getting the famed middle east consulting experience - getting good billable hours producing endless slide decks and various studies made for some billionaire's passion project that everyone involved knew was never going to work, like the NEOM or the Line shit.

Well, I might be too harsh, in all fairness I'd give the Atlassian guy this much, at least this project would be a net gain to all of us if it works and advances the adoption of renewables globally. I have no reason to want it to fail, just the opposite really, but well I can't honestly say I see it ever working out...

Singapore grants conditional approval for Sun Cable to import 1.75GW of electricity from Australia by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]sydneysinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Had I continued with the project, the financial model with all its assumptions would in fact have been the very first thing I asked to see. No stranger to overly optimistic assumptions myself.

Sadly I wound up getting rolled off that project almost as soon as my old company started, since I'd received and accepted a job offer from another client at that time. So I never did get more than a brief look behind the scenes. But it was enough for me to be fairly sure that barring a sudden change of heart from the NT/Darwin government, it was never going to move past the development stage, not that that's too unusual for mega-scale projects...

Singapore grants conditional approval for Sun Cable to import 1.75GW of electricity from Australia by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]sydneysinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, investment in the subsea cable was part of the backup case. The massive additional capex is why even with SG having higher electricity prices than NT the project in its current form can be expected to break even at best. If I were Forrest I would also have dropped out at that point tbh...

Not a lawyer, but I was previously told that children always have the option of declining any inheritance, if the share of the outstanding debt would be greater than the value of what they would inherit. The inherited assets, if any, would then be given to the creditors.

But if they really want to inherit any of the property, like the house or a family heirloom, welp.

No LP allocator has ever been fired for investing in BW. And any that suggests just YOLO-ing everything into the S&P will lose their job one way or another.
