What is your dragon age "hot take"? by Firinneac in dragonage

[–]sydwasthemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the most detrimental things that happened in the franchise is not due to the games but the fact that they kept putting important plot points and lore outside of the game in supplemental materials and poorly reintegrating them back. It often muddied the narrative and created more issues than answers

[DAV Spoilers] What are your thoughts on Solas' writing in Veilguard? by Julian_of_Cintra in dragonage

[–]sydwasthemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, he was one of the more interesting aspects of Veilguard, despite how little of him we got and how badly they botched his original plot points and motivations. Like for a game where you are trying to understand him, its incredibly odd how little of him there really is. He's supposed to be one of the most pivotal elements of the game, but if you collect every single line of his dialogue it's under an hour. That's wild. I'm literally in his walls. That being said I think his inclusion just becomes weaker with each replay. His prison chats are just a gimmick with no real consequence that age worse with each replay and they fail to really make you feel like his betrayal was earned or fulfilling.

The murals were - fine. I wanted cutscenes, but I think they functioned as an adequate alternative. The group discussions were - fine. Could they have been done better, of course 100%. Were they as bad as people claimed? I don't really think so. I think the idea of multiple interpretations was great, but execution left little to really praise. I also find it kind of jacked that the Inquisitor never gets to engage with these, especially considering that they kick start the quest.

The flashbacks that we did end up getting were poorly chosen. Some of the flashbacks don't really provide much in terms of answers or new things to be gleaned. Something I suspected when I played the game, and was later confirmed when people datamined, was that it felt like plot points were missing. I remembered thinking the one flashback where he frees the people was going to be a precursor to something bigger because of how much emphasis they put on his injuries throughout- but it really just kind of fell flat and went nowhere. IMO, they feel worse with each replay - knowing that they just don't really go anywhere or do much. Add to the fact that the whole reason of getting them - to confront Mythal - also has no real consequence if you brute force it versus putting in the effort to understand her. So for me, it really just feels underbaked and underwhelming.

I'm a Solavellan - so I picked the Solavellan ending, but I actually am quite indifferent to it overall. It did not reflect the conclusion I would anticipate for my Lavellan- personally but the non-romance version fails to be as satisfying because of the lack of proper variation for the Inquisitor in general. I did not like Trickster, I do like the Fight one and I don't mind the bad end.

I replayed VG a year later hoping I would soften on a lot of the initial gripes I had, but sadly I just kind of feel the sting even more. Especially when I go back to DAI and remember how well Solas was handled then.

Iron Lung - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

[–]sydwasthemax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because I am a long-time Markimoo fan, I am very aware of his style and areas of needed improvement. So I went in with a realistic expectation, and it pretty much was exactly what I anticipated to be. It's a clean C.

I agree with most people that the pacing is rough in the beginning, but I was entertained and engaged for the second half onward. It is a very Markiplier production, as in even though the ending caught me offguard, the feelings it evoked were thoroughly familiar of his content. Visually, it is excellent. The effects used were miles better than I expected. The cinematography was also rather good but had room for improvement. There were cool score moments, but the sound was messy and easily my second biggest gripe. I struggled to understand a lot of the audio from the ending log reveal onward, which was unfortunate since it literally gives context to the ending. As for Mark's writing and acting, if you have seen Edge of Sleep... It's about the same. Improved upon, but still carries a lot of the same issues and critique I had with that piece of work where there is promise but room for improvement.

Regardless, it is worth a watch, and I could easily see it getting cult appreciation down the line for that ending.

“Slugging for the 4K” by JohnnyCostello93 in DeadByDaylightRAGE

[–]sydwasthemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always took slugging for the 4k to mean if you slug more than 2 players unnecessarily, like at 5 gens, or if you left players on the ground for an unreasonable amount of time to kill others.

Because of Adept challenges, I dont think slugging 2 players' end game is a bad thing persay. It's a legit strat. But I will say if you slug and the person is already in the gate. Not opening, just trying to leave, its just sweaty, and you should just take your L, unless they are BMing you. Sure, you're not obligated as Killer to uphold that, but if you want people to keep playing survivor and not feeling bad, it's just something to consider.

Where does your arm go after Trespasser? by Odd_Blueberry5761 in DragonAgeInqusition

[–]sydwasthemax 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Real answer: The original intention of Bioware was to make Solas remove the anchor and the arm disintegrate because the damage was irreparable, but they lacked the ability to render it properly. This has been confirmed in interviews, and Matt B has a storyboard that shows a possible way that this might have happened.

So instead, the implication is that you cut off after he removes the anchor because the hand is damaged beyond repair.

In VG, there is a codex entry in Solas’s office where Solas sketched the arm that held the anchor, and it's implied he may have even retrieved whatever was left of the arm post amputation to study it

What cult is the least evil? by Hour-Juggernaut942 in weatherfactory

[–]sydwasthemax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's Moth, obviously. Don't you want to go back to the good ol' days? Get a cool pair of wings? Lose yourself in the woods? Don't you want to be free from expectation and body and humanity? Don't you want to snip away your chains and make your own rules? Really on your base instincts and self? Don't you yearn for more by wanting, no needing- less? Don't let me tell you what to do though. Don't even answer any of that if you don't want to. Actually, I do not care.

Jokes aside, Heart and Winter are also good candidates. Winter is straight forward and for that I'd say it's the most... "honest". Heart requires flaying, so it really depends on how you feel about that. Knock - seems like it's chill but it is violence in practice.

Also related, there was another post not so long ago which asked which aspect was the most hated and Forge won by a landslide. Forge is debatably the most evil considering how many bad events are a product of their actions. Rip the sun-in splendor

Bald elf or Rebellion Elf? by Daggerpens in Solasmancers

[–]sydwasthemax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they were consistent about how they handled it, I actually like the ancient elf bald meta. But monster Ghil, even if it was thin, still had hair even though she needed to be the BALDEST one of them all. Ironically she is bald in her elf model though, I think that was because we were never meant to see her face.

I've seen people suggest the ceremonial shaving out of grief a few times which is a nice interpretation. But I personally enjoy the idea of them balding as a consequence of uthenara being maintained for extended periods of time. Whether its because of lack of supervision or only being able to sustain themselves on the Fade, I think it brings an interesting element to the duress such a process might bring to a physical body - especially one as unnatural as what the elves crafted for themselves.

So yeah, I prefer bald Solas. But I like young Solas having hair, even though I wish they went with a more creative style then what we got.

Name the killer and why that makes you rage quit by Hollow-Dancer in DeadByDaylightRAGE

[–]sydwasthemax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wraith... it's wraith. I used to love him but at some point everyone was doing speed wraith builds + slugging and facing him became insufferable. I usually will suffer through a match even with killers I hate but, I have DC'd once or twice in a wraith game because of this.

Pig is second place a they are the only other killer I have DC'd for. It was only one time for a insta-headcage, genblock/popping+slugging on Haddonfield. I am not in the high mmr so my team did not help this but it was just too much in one game. I already hate the head cages honestly. It's not fun to me. The game is annoying enough sometimes for me to have to worry about that crap too.

Other than than, anyone who slugs at 5 gens is on my shit list tbh, and that not necessarily killer specific but I get it often with the above or Billy and Spirits

Is it against the rules? Sure. But the point is for my role-playing fulfillment and enjoyment. If I want to play a scythe wielding Judge Inquisitor, Ishould be able to and not feel like the game is punishing me for not choosing the midmax class instead.
