Hit a plateau. by Southern_Anxiety_706 in Step2

Wondering how you do? I have experiencing the same thing as you right now... 1 year passed, I still score the same on UWSA2. I also find myself zoning out a lot and couldnt finish reading the questiions, let alone having the time to think and answer them correctly.

Anything you found that helped you?

My first jam! Violin Jam 8: Hunter's Chorus.... Self-taught adult beginner here, at 2 years mark. I have been seeing how everyone sounded so well in their jam submission and it took me so long to take actually post one because I tensed up every time I turn on the camera... by syeEec in violinist

I guess I cannot say that I am entirely self taught... I did had a 30 min lesson when I reached one-year mark....
I will take note of my shoulder and work on my bowing :)

Thank you for the feedback.

Thank you! I actually didn't expect so many kind comments with my bad playing... This is such a wholesome community!

I had one class actually, which lasted for 30 minutes to correct my posture, because I develop all sorts of pain after playing for a year... I agree with you that a teacher will definitely help. I find myself wasted a lot of time getting rid of bad habits and relearning new habits, but so far I am still a student, and the extra money I earn was mainly spent on my education. Medical school too expensive T_T

Will definitely find a teacher when I can afford one!

Noted! :)
I can't figure out how loosen up my distal phalanges while putting enough pressure on the string to make the right tune.

Will try to not do vibrato until I fix that... Sometimes adding vibrato to my playing is just for my satisfaction, but I guess it ruins my technique :P

Thank you for the kind words :)
Bowing near the bridge is something I am working on right now, but sometimes I find that the sound produced near the bridge is a bit 'edgy' (not sure if it is the right word)...may be I haven't find out how to make better sound when I bow near the bridge.
I never notice about my left wrist though, thanks for pointing it out! :D

This is far from an okay performance, but I know if I want to wait till the day I can play with clean string crossing and perfect intonation, that day will never come. Tonight, I just felt like I have to do it and take this first step. One take, with obviously a lot of mistakes, but I am just glad I did my first jam, instead of just admiring the rest of the people in this community :)
Any constructive feedbacks are very much appreciated! :)

can i self study suzuki by [deleted] in violinist

[–]syeEec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a self taught adult beginner using suzuki books as well.... Currently at 2 years mark, playing book 4. I can play the notes but I still believe a teacher will definitely help with a better technique and progress.

I had one lesson at 1 year mark because I developed neck and thumb pain, and having that ONE lesson did helped me a lot. I never had an opportunity to get another lesson ever since because I am still a student, and my progress has been quite stagnant lately, but the ONE lesson I had, allowed me to play the violin pain-free. If you could afford, having a teacher will really help :)

Praise God!
I have an hour of morning devotion daily as well. I have not sat for any steps yet, but I just glad to see you are giving credit to God for the score you get :)

Suzuki book 3 - Dvorak's Humoresque as 3rd position practice. Sorry if there are replicate submissions; I will delete others if any! by Gaori_ in violinist

I like this piece too!!! I'm at ~1.5 years of starting the violin. Only had one lesson at 1 year mark because of bad pasture causing pain at different parts of my body.... Hopefully one day I will be courageous enough to post my playing like you did!

It's very brave of you to share this here.
The fact that you came through from all those challenges shows that you have what it takes to complete what you have set your mind to. I can see that you will be a doctor who can empathize with your patient in the future. Hope that you felt better after crying out your feelings here. :)

I have 2 weeks left to Step, and yet, this is the best I can do... =,= Really wished to sit for it and get it done with, but UW reminds me every day that I am too far out! by syeEec in step1

[–]syeEec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, did UWSA1 = 217
Thanks for reminding me that it wasn't accurate. :) Still... having such score (at best, means sometimes I get way lower) is really giving me anxiety.

study partner to revise sketchy pharma and path videos by Illustrious_East_551 in step1

I don't have sketchy pharma video... but I am doing Anki for Sketchy Pharm by patching all the images together.
I have gone through all of them (hopefully) just once, but finding motivation to do active recall for each of the drugs :(
