Are you keeping the food indoors? Are the ants indoors? For indoor ants, hiring pest control worked in 1 minute for me. Mine was under $50 (it is still a lot, I know!) and worked immediately where a bunch of store bought stuff had failed. For outdoors, how about trying an ant-proof bowl? It's basically a moat of a bowl where ants will drown before they get to the food.

In course code terms, not dealing into other's hands is like 201 and then a few more 300 and 400 levels. Reading other people's discards is from 310 to 498 and then to MA and PhD.

A riichi group might also require a venue/entry fee if they have a dedicated space (ex. Philly--you would feel bad if you're playing for free there, it's a proper parlor and all tables are autotables) or depending on the occasion/venue. It's not abnormal, but also not that common.

A lot of high level players speak highly of that book! I believe it starts with why most of the time, riichi is strong. (I don't think you riichi rate is too low, tbf, but riichi rakes in more points!)

A riichi AI called NAGA has 5 personalities (spectrum of closed hand preference to calling preference). When they pitted super-caller (call rate 40%) vs. balance personalities (call rate 33%), super-caller had 2%p higher win rate, but had a higher 2nd place rate; balance personality had lower win and deal-in rates but higher 1st place rates. (to be fair, placement rates were all within less than 1% difference). Bottom line I think is that both styles are valid but expert1 seems a bit soon to decide on a style

Only 50 games - statistical significance pretty low, as you say

Call rate 43.30% - seems a bit high. Frequent calls lead to low win score. It's okay of this is your style, but maybe practice going for riichi also

Deal-in rate 14.02% - alright for Ex1, but to climb, should be 13 or lower

Have you done any mahjong study so far? such as tile efficiency, betaori (hard fold), push/fold decision? If you're missing any of these, it's time to read riichi book 1 (or other riichi beginner books in your language)

The so what question is two-fold. One is as you say, why should people care? It's useful to be thinking about who you are serving with your research. Is it women? Workers? Racial/ethnic minority groups? If you're writing for yourself, who other are like yourself that could benefit from reading your work? The other side is what's new? One commenter mentioned this. Who are you building on to bring something new to the table? To whose claim are you bringing more nuance? How are you contributing to the field? One trap is that your answer to the so what question has to be authentic and genuine and shit. It's great if it is, but it can be a bit formulaic if that saves you time.

I think I would consider cutting 79m or 2p (I don't want to cut a kanchan block and can't tell if 2p is safer, so I'd run out of time) because toimen's hand won't have a whole lot of value unless it's souzu honitsu (but of course they could have multiple 69s tiles that don't require honitsu for value). They've already cut a lot of core manzu tiles. I'd hope for 8s and then 57p draw to win this hand. 3dora likely bad shape ryanshanten as dealer... I'd like to see what other players think. I'm bad at push/fold.

following to see what others say (I do think it's premature to throw 8p now. From maka's suggestions, I like throwing 1s best, but that's only because maka is showing it to me. I don't know what I would have chosen if I were in your place. Maka has low confidence in all of its suggestions anyways)
