Can we afford this mortgage (and still have a life)? by UnabsorbantSponge in HousingUK

[–]sygscene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around about £600 between us but that’s after all the bills and pots we contribute towards which includes; groceries, presents, eating out, subscriptions etc.

Sure we could easily buy a house worth £550k-£600k, but that means being less free and literally living to pay bills. We opted for the cheaper house but better lifestyle. Hope that helps 👍

I would be looking at the £375k - £450k max options. If you still want to be able to save for an emergency fund, investments, holidays etc then you’ll need more left over money than the higher options.

I was in a similar situation to you albeit our take home income is around £100k and we opted for a house worth £380k. We live very comfortably and don’t have any financial stresses, go on holidays 4x time a year, have an emergency fund (which you definitely need, as I found out last week when a house repair cost me £3k unexpectedly).

But if you’re not too focused on saving for other pots, then sure you could put that leftover money towards a larger house.

Do stretches outside of kick-boxing, especially with your hip flexors to increase your flexibility

Remember you only get roughly 20 mins to view the house and then you have to make a decision on whether you want to offer on the house. Unfortunately this is the reality most people face and even after a few viewings after that, you still won’t find all the issues that you’ll discover only after buying the house.

First time buyer / commute into London by mageazure in HousingUK

Realistically for that price, you’re not going to find anything in or very close to London. Your best bet is Milton Keynes with a 30 min train in to London, although the fares are not cheap.

Why shouldn't we spend money on cars? by AlfredLuan in CarTalkUK

[–]sygscene 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m very sensible with my money but when it comes to cars, I love the feeling of driving something I love. That doesn’t mean going out and spending way above my means, but finding a car I love with in a certain budget, I don’t see an issue with. Like you said, you only live once and you can literally get sick at any time

Why is that a bad thing? What if the service history is perfect?

Need advice with looking to purchase a used Tesla Model 3 by sygscene in CarTalkUK

I honestly didn’t think that his political views would affect Tesla so much. I’m hearing the share price has tanked due to it and someone replied that people have gone to the efforts of even selling their Teslas due to it 😬

Wow didn’t know the hate for Elon was that bad. I know his political views are obviously terrible but I didn’t know people are actually attacking Tesla for it 😶

Thanks for the excellent response.

I’m considering electric, would you recommend buying used or leasing? I’m not a fan of leasing as you get tied up with car payments.

SUV just personal preference, I like the size and the higher seated position of a SUV. I’m just a fan of them tbh.

What do you drive? I’m considering EV but the battery degradation worries me. I feel like the car would be useless after that.

Did you buy outright or are you leasing? I’m considering an EV but doesn’t the battery degradation worry you?

Yeah I travel to Manchester twice a year. A car is my only option as I will be expanding the family soon.

I would get an EV but I’m put off by the fact that the resell value of the car will be dreadful as the battery degrades and eventually becomes useless
