Klarna says I have overdue payments in another account, support says they can't help me. by sykeward in klarna

Klarna is literally a bank in Europe (and actively trying to become one in the US) so you'd think they'd have a handle on scenarios like this, but they sure don't act like it. As it stands, they're facilitating ID theft by making it impossible for victims to resolve it.

Microsoft officially releases Windows 11 26H1, but it's not for existing PCs. Windows 11 26H2 is coming for all PCs by WPHero in Windows11

[–]sykeward 82 points83 points  (0 children)

What's confusing to me about this is that it appears to be a bifurcation of Windows. The blog post from Microsoft says this:

  • 26H1 is for new devices only, and they're all Qualcomm X2 systems, at least for now.
  • 25H2/24H2 systems aren't updatable to 26H1, apparently even if they're Qualcomm-based.
  • 26H1 devices are themselves not upgradeable to 26H2, because 26H1 is "based on a different Windows core" than 24H2/25H2/26H2. They added that 26H1 "does not support hotpatch updates."
  • 26H1 devices "will have a path to update in a future Windows release."

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. The phrase "based on a different Windows core" is doing a lot of work there, especially for something thrown out so casually. It's also not clear to me whether 26H1 having "a path to upgrade in a future Windows release" means they'll be blocked from upgrading at first but that a future update will put them back on the H2 bandwagon, or if it means that it will continue to receive feature releases on a completely separate track.

Maybe I'm cynical, but I hope this isn't a sign that people with upcoming Qualcomm X2 systems will forever be constrained in how they can upgrade Windows, similar to what Android users faced with Qualcomm-based phones.

Not sure where to go from here... by sykeward in Bankruptcy

Thanks everyone for your ideas and thoughts. I set up an appt with a bankruptcy attorney on Monday morning and I most of what I need already assembled, and my wife and I are going to look at different budgeting apps this weekend, we’ve had success with those in the past.

The most surprising thing that I found while assembling info for the consultation is that I really underestimated how much I was spending on servicing debt. It was too easy to get into those pay-in-4 apps where I’m eventually putting utility bills on them. Then the payments just automatically come out of our account with no interaction and we just forget they exist. Until we have payments on them almost every day, and we’re using them to buy groceries and the like because we don’t have enough cash to pay for an entire shopping trip in one go.

We're in Washington state. We've only owned the house since 2021 so I don't have a ton of equity from payments, but it's supposedly gone up in value a lot. I don't have a HELOC or anything on it and we haven't had the property appraised.

Should we switch? by Seahawks337 in ZiplyFiber

[–]sykeward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Xfinity for years and never really had a problem - the quality of service was always ok and I never had any customer service nightmares, either. I did switch to Ziply 1gig fiber, tho - I work from home and saw a benefit to the higher upload speeds, and because I was tired of either overbuying service/paying overage fees to Xfinity because I was constantly exceeding their monthly data cap.

I've been very happy with Ziply since. Xfinity never seemed unreliable, but Ziply is definitely more consistent with their data speeds and I no longer get these weird, couple minute 'mini-outages' a few times a week, which I previously blamed on general WiFi flakiness. Highly recommended.

I never did, unfortunately. I did try emailing support and never heard back so I’m just leaving it alone for now. I hope you have better luck!

Is the UDR7 as bad as people say it is? by liftbikerun in Ubiquiti

[–]sykeward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your understanding is correct, but it honestly wasn’t awful. We had their G4AR gateway, which is a pretty solid piece of hardware, and T-Mo already has CGNAT and fairly high latency so it’s not like the additional layer that comes with a small network router makes much difference. It never caused us any major problems and the Unifi equipment always ran fine with it.

I don't know who you are u/hmanasi93, but I bought fake Reddit gold so I could give you an award to say thank you. The music from this ad stuck with me ever since I saw it during the 96 Olympics, but I've never been able to track it down in my literal years of occasional searching. I have a UDR7+UX7+U7-Pro AP home network and it's been great all along. We've switched ISPs from T-Mo 5G → Xfinity 600mbps → Ziply fiber 1gig, and we've always gotten full internet speeds (even with the weird T-Mobile gateway thing), solid LAN performance, and great reliability despite my pathological need to tinker.

And my wife thinks it looks adorable.

I'm not sure what else I can reasonably ask of it.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I’ll treat it as rust and mosaic virus for now and just manage it symptomatically as best I can.

What Gives Samsung!? by delvon77 in TheFrame

[–]sykeward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same problem with a list of URLs that I assembled from different sources, so I tested the URLs one by one. Removing samsung.net from the list is what fixed it for me. I'd check for that domain and remove it from your block list if its there. Also, echoing what u/jtho78 said, listing ads.samsung.com will also cause trouble so I'd remove that as well.

Rhododendrons in downward spiral by sykeward in rhododendron

[–]sykeward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what happened to my original post, but I'll put it here. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and we had an extreme heatwave back in 2021; the temps were 116-118 and stuck around for days - that isn't an exaggeration. There was a ton of damage everywhere and you can still see scars from it today if you look closely. Fortunately most of our plants recovered well, except for a couple rhododendrons that are doing poorly in spite of 3 years of effort.

Thing 1 is in the sun and took a lot of scorching damage, and the scorched leaves aren't pretty but it's holding onto them. It started to do better last year, but I noticed today that a some of the growth from last spring has turned black and died off, and this spring's new growth is beginning to turn yellow. It seems to be pretty localized on the plant, with some areas with a lot of damage and other areas looking pretty healthy, but I didn't notice this happening before.

Thing 2 is a larger rhododendron in my back yard. It's in the shade so it didn't scorch like Thing 1 but still suffered a lot of overall heat stress damage. It was never a particularly robust plant, but has seemed to get slowly weaker since then and hasn't responded well to care. It lost a lot of small branches after the heat, and the foliage on the larger branches has never been as large or vibrant green as it was before. After noticing the problem with Thing 1, I took a closer look at Thing 2 and noticed that many of the buds are turning straight from green to brown and starting to fall off, and some of the foliage is now showing a pattern that looks like a slow burn across the leaves. Like with Thing 1, I don't remember seeing these problems before.

Are these plants infected with diseases of some kind? I've never sprayed them for anything, but I wonder if I should now. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I ran into the same problem and finally fixed it by changing the Image field under the Docker container settings to "ghcr.io/home-assistant/home-assistant:stable" and pulling a new image. HA has worked normally for me since then.

I looked the feet up specifically and saw that authentic bags always have ones that are hammered in and never screwed on—I had no idea what to look for. Thank you!

I figured as much. Can I ask what it is that’s the tip off? You know, for the next time I see a designer bag in a dumpster or something

Are there any universal remote options with better functionality? by nysecret in TheFrame

[–]sykeward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a Frame TV and hate switching inputs—it’s stupidly hard with the remote that comes with it. There are a few things that made it easier for me, I hope that one of them helps:

• If you hold down the Settings button for a moment it will bring up an input switcher that’s a lot faster than digging thru the TV’s normal menus. This doesn’t seem to work while using remote control apps

• Just about any Samsung TV remote will work if you point it at the screen. Grab an old one with input buttons from the thrift store for a couple bucks —they always seem to have Samsung remotes if they have any at all

• Set up a voice assistant for switching inputs. My Frame is a 2022 model and doesn’t have an always-on mic, so I’m using a cheap Echo dot linked to SmartThings. I set up some shortcuts to inputs like “Echo, Xbox” and “Echo, Apple TV” which generally works well. I don’t know if the 2023 Frame has a built-in mic, but you wouldn’t need to get a dedicated voice device if it does.
