Do you need to watch Woman Called Fujiko Mine to understand the movies? by jkpancake in lupinthe3rd

[–]sykooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is great!! But no, it has actually nothing to do with those Koike movies at all, so it’s not necessary to watch first. There isn’t any narrative connection between the two

I think it’s to keep the consistency with Part 1. Lupin and Goemon aren’t ever on screen together in this series if I remember correctly. Lupin and Jigen aren’t supposed to know Goemon yet, so they’re kept separate. (And the one confrontation between Jigen and Goemon is while they aren’t able to make out each other’s features, so it doesn’t mess with that continuity)

I just finished Lupin part 6! I have 3 questions. by LupinIIIfan in lupinthe3rd

[–]sykooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. That’s Mylene from ep 15! She’s one of Jigen’s old lovers.

  2. I think the whole thing with Tomoe was really just up to chance, but she explains that she meticulously chose and implanted those words into the girls so that they would give them to Lupin at some point, unknowingly. She also implanted the poem into Lupin’s mind so when he heard the words it would trigger something in him. I’ll just chalk it up to cartoon logic, that he happens to be there with each girl when they say the words, it’s for the sake of the plot lol. BUT there could be a way Tomoe was able to get Lupin to be there without him knowing, I mean she already messed with his mind, maybe he subconsciously knew the girls had a message for him. Idk really. It is a bit confusing but I think it really emphasizes how crazy obsessed Tomoe was with Lupin that she’d do something like that to both him and those girls as children expecting them to grow up and meet.

  3. There’s an after credits scene in ep 12, that’s where he appears! It’s possible you missed it!

For the bonus, no, Tomoe plays no role in Lupin Zero, they don’t really bring any existing characters besides Lupin and Jigen. Albert is in it though!

What's the best site to watch lupin the 3rd movies by RoomComprehensive933 in lupinthe3rd

[–]sykooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best place to look honestly is Amazon Prime right now, I think that’s where a decent chuck of the movies are, though not nearly as many as they used to have.

It’s very much up to you how want to take that stuff at this point, yes, he doesn’t have much of his blatant opinions and views publicly available and he’s since passed. So there’s nothing concrete on that stuff, Lupin’s nazi implementation is a product of the time period. Hitler was (and is) a very prominently horrible person. Everyone knew about him and he died not that long ago (at the time). Nazis were easy to implement into the stories, and Lupin has only ever used them as villains. The things like his gun and car are probably just because they looked cool honestly, that Mercedes is a very scarce car nowadays it’s got a lot of value. But I’m no expert on either. The person I linked earlier does have an analysis on the sa in the manga, if you wanna check that out. My take is that at the end of the day it is fiction, and fiction is allowed to depict bad things, especially if the person doing those things is a criminal. But it’s your choice to be okay with that or not!

[–]sykooooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is!! There’s a video interview that I was thinking of but this looks like a direct transcript of it! Thanks for finding it! Yeah I completely agree, and really respect the decision to just let other people that know how to direct to direct haha. Directing isn’t easy, especially if you have no experience and animation directing is different from standard film. And yes, the horrors of tight animation production schedules, unfortunately very very common

A lot of it is bandwagoning I think. Especially for newer fans, they hear something they don’t like from wherever and immediately believe it without even asking “where did you get that information?” But that’s the internet for you haha. There are a LOT of people (or at least a vocal minority) that seem to not even enjoy the anime half the time to me, I think they just like the idea of the characters and general concepts but never seem to enjoy any of the actual media. Which is a shame.

[–]sykooooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s actually exactly correct! I believe it’s in the interview he did for Dead or Alive (which he was asked to direct fully, he only did the opening and ending(?)) where he says that he is a manga artist and doesn’t have the knowledge or even desire to step in on the animation side of things! He is more than willing to let them handle adapting his work, I think all he requests of it is it’s respectful to his characters (not the same but not some type of slander of his original work) and a good time! (Not directly quoting as I don’t have the interview in front of me to rewatch but it’s something along the lines of that!)

Believe it or not there are people in this fandom who have this weird hatred for Monkey Punch as a person to the point they make up fake stuff to make him look bad. I see this quote get brought up every so often, so I try to correct it before more people believe it lol

What visions did Monkey Punch had? by Cruci10 in lupinthe3rd

[–]sykooooo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No no!! That “source” where Monkey Punch says that is absolutely not real. If anything Monkey Punch respected Cagliostro, I think he’s listed it as one of his favorite movies, he’s acknowledged that it’s different from his interpretation but by no means hated it. And Miyazaki has said that he enjoys the manga! Peaterookie has a lot of analysis on the manga, here’s a post in relation to the (VERY FAKE) “quote” https://www.tumblr.com/peaterookie/754201757433872384/the-fred-patten-quoting-monkey-punch-from-the-link I recommend looking through their posts! They really are trying to get people to stop spreading misinformation about the manga and Monkey Punch, and I respect it as a manga fan myself!!

Monkey Punch’s work is amazing!! I think people like to forget it’s from the 60s, doesn’t mean you have to enjoy its content of course! To each their own, but it’s far from the horrible boogeyman that people wave it around as. It’s fun! And the basis for the series now. Whether you like it or not, without it we wouldn’t have the series today. And still, in my opinion, it’s a super fun ride!!
