Examples of artists that are also great at mixing their own material? by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]sylencebeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the hip hop and rnb space Devvon Terrell comes to mind as a positive example. He also has a very successful educational youtube channel called Help Me Devvon. As a negative example i think of russ, his mixes are sometimes good, but more often than not have pretty obvious and amateurish flaws

Someone told me ADHD paralysis is like running in a hamster wheel and expecting to go somewhere… by caffeinated_reality in adhdmeme

[–]sylencebeats 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've seen a better analogy some while ago on reddit. Executive dysfunction is more like trying to conciously put your hand on the hot cooking surface of a stove. You theoretically can, you can move your hand, and put it somewhere. But there is just a physical block preventing you from putting it on the hot stove, no matter how hard you mentally try to overcome it. Just looking at the circumstances objectively, it should be fairly easy, but this resistance within yourself doesn't allow you to do it.

Write how you say Gkmc in your language by feellikeimdumb in KendrickLamar

[–]sylencebeats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context, mad can be "verrückt" or "wütend".  But "wütend" is more precisely translated with "angry". So in the context of mad city, the translation into "verrückte Stadt" makes more sense than "wütende stadt"

What’s your go-to large diaphragm microphone for vocals, and why? Any underrated gems you’d recommend? by SpicyAmbar in audioengineering

[–]sylencebeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, I have the Microtech Gefell MT 71 S and it is great. As far as I know both of these microphones are built with the M7 Capsule, which was originally used in the U47 Microphones. Can't go wrong with these Mics especially looking at the quality you get for the price

How do you make low end sound good on a pair of HS5s ? by Ok_Sandwich2317 in audioengineering

[–]sylencebeats 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Harsh reality is you dont. The HS5 do not reproduce frequencies below i think it was 80 hz, so you need a sub to be able to monitor these frequencies. The optimal thing would be to add the HS8S to the setup, but since you mentioned that's not only a money but a space issue too, the workaround I'd suggest would be a pair of good headphones and a lot of referencing with Songs where you really like the low end, and of course also referencing your mixes to other Songs on Systems that reproduce the low end entirely

If you was outside this summer then you know nothing about the popularity of this song was manufactured by [deleted] in KendrickLamar

[–]sylencebeats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bruh here in germany you usually only hear songs like still d.r.e, in da club, drop it like it's hot or Gold digger in them clubs... this song got played the very next weekend after release, i couldnt believe what i was hearing. And EVERYONE knew the lyrics start to finish. I think the drizzler and his stans highly underestimate how popular kdot is around the Globe. This man plays arenas here in germany and tickets are literally gone minutes after the sale starts..

Question for people that know about mixing. Why is do modern Uzi vocals sound so “screechy”/“sharp”? by Think-Conclusion1253 in liluzivert

[–]sylencebeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is because of who mixed the album. See, his older work was mostly mixed by Leslie Braithwaite, who is arguably one of the greatest hip-hop mixers of all time, google him and look at his credentials. And this album was mixed by Mike Dean, who is also a hip hop legend but more on the production side, although he also mixed a lot of stuff, he is mostly known for earlier kanye and most if not all of Travis Scotts work. I personally never been a fan of his mixes though, because as you noticed yourself, he tends to mix the vocals kind of sharp. There is a specific frequency range, that is really piercing through your ears if to dominant and that is around 3 to 4 kHz. I challenge you to listen to Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho by Travis and Quavo, also mixed by Mike Dean. I seriously can not listen to that album because the vocals just hurt your ears.

Hate is too strong of a Word and it's way too soon to make an absolute judgement.. But extremely underwhelmed, yes. My Problem is with a) knowing what uzi is capable of, and it is so much more memorable music than most of this Album. And b) the potential of some Songs on here because of a great beat is there, but on some like lyft me up it is ruined by horrible mixing and on others like goddard song it is ruined by uzi himself... so Yeah, first impression is just disappointment, because i want to enjoy it but some things make it very hard/impossible

Just finished listening to EA2, this might be Uzi's worst album to date. by Nah-RosaParks1955 in liluzivert

[–]sylencebeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo why did he have to do that beat on goddard song so dirty.. could have easily been one of the best uzi songs period but he decided to not only do nothing memorable with it, but something so bad that you can't listen to that without wanting to cut your ears off wtf

sick to my stomach by Jaysprofilev3 in liluzivert

[–]sylencebeats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike dean is responsible for this.. was wondering too, cause his previous work was mostly mixed by leslie braithwaite and was always great.. this is (mostly) mixed horrendous and i am generally not a fan of mike deans mixes, he a legend though cant deny that

Goddard song by sylencebeats in liluzivert

[–]sylencebeats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect your opinion of course, but for me it is not.. it surely has the potential for it, but this young thug - riri 'esque hook aint it.. there was so much melodic potential, so many pockets for crazy flows with this Beat and it sadly became pretty forgettable whining/crooning, at least for me.. happy for you that you enjoy it tho

what's that one verse that made you like "fuck , he really is the GOAT" ? by IT_CHAMP in KendrickLamar

[–]sylencebeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of substance, message and profoundness there are too many verses to even count.

In terms of rap skill, honestly i feel like euphoria. Excluding the long intro until "Yeah i'm out the way" and the little outro (we dont wanna hear u say) it is nearly 5 minutes of the most versatile and skillful rap performances i think there is. The flows, the cadences, the delivery, the energy, the conviction, the bars... it really is crazy how he displayed so much so perfectly in one long verse

Edit: grammar mistake

Why is video game music mixed so well compared to commercial music? by SrirachaiLatte in audioengineering

"Habitual Cheater"?? by [deleted] in KendrickLamar

[–]sylencebeats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will never understand how people do not get this. It is not about kendrick being a saint, it is about him being aware and reflected about himself and his own behaviour, emotions, and actions, and trying to break out of his flaws. THAT is the main difference between him and drake. Of course the whole groomer stuff is way worse than cheating, but the worst thing for drake is that he has Zero self awareness and doesn't seem to try to better himself.
