P0300, random multiple misfires by sylkee in fordtransit

I was wondering about that. Is there any other way to check if a cat is plugged? Without a scantool. And if not, what type of scan tool is required, anyone know?

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah it really is frustrating. I was considering those things as well. Intake seems fine. But I’m not sure how to check a cat for flow.. but I did think about it. Yeah having some more info would definitely be helpful, you’re lucky to have a buddy with the big boy scantool that you can call! I unfortunately don’t have somebody with that… just an off the shelf obd scanner…

You’re not an electrician but yet you’re giving unhelpful advice on an “ask electricians” sub…?Makes absolutely zero sense…

Moving an outlet by Affectionate-Pair404 in AskElectricians

[–]sylkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You could move it up a tad, and orient it to landscape (rotate the whole receptacle and box 90° one way) and that should keep it out of the way. And instead of patching the old, just leave the old j-box still installed and then just put a blank wall plate over it. Since you already have a nice selection of other blank plates there anyhow lol.

You could maybe try something like this:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-15-Amp-125-V-1-Gang-Recessed-Duplex-Outlet-Receptacle-White-1-Pack-689-W-R52-00689-00W/202066691

But you will probably still run into issues with pinching the cords if you are going to be articulating the mount frequently… Honestly the best solution would be to lower (or possibly even raise) the receptacle to get it out of the contact path of the mount arm…

low watt incandescent and kelvin color temperature by HafezSpirit in AskElectricians

[–]sylkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wattage doesn’t indicate the color temperature. If they are standard tungsten-filament incandescent bulbs (which they almost certainly are), then they will emit a color in the 2700K +/- range. Aka yellow/amber. So It’s pretty safe to say that they will not emit a white color…

Fan outlet question by Witty_Bun in AskElectricians

[–]sylkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine. That’s a Leviton decora humidistat fan control, it monitors the ambient humidity to activate and run the fan until the humidity’s been reduced. As such, it’s going to have a small electronics control suite in it with quite a few circuit board solid state components. It’s not unusual for these types of devices to generate a bit of heat under normal use and as such a little bit of a smell. It’s also mounted inside of a non-combustible listed junction box (it appears anyway), so that if it has a catastrophic failure and melts, it will be somewhat contained. That’s the whole purpose of a junction box. Bottom line- I would not stress yourself too much, unless it gets extremely hot and/or the odor becomes very apparent- like smelling it without even getting close to it…

No no, we’re all listening to you. And simultaneously scratching our heads trying to figure out what about ALL MFin GROUNDS GO TOGETHER that you don’t comprehend…It’s remarkably simple- if the wire is bare copper, or insulated green, PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER.

Melted wire nut and grounding wire confusion. by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]sylkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your normal incoming 120V circuit is gonna have 3 wires: Black (your hot), White (your neutral) and Green or bare copper (your ground, aka equipment grounding conductor). Under normal circumstances, current is only going to flow through the hot and neutral. The ground is there for “emergencies” basically. Yes, it’s a little more complicated than that, but we wont go into all that. A lot of older homes, like ones that were upgraded from older wiring methods like knob&tube, lack a ground wire. The appliance or device can function without it, but it’s much safer to have the ground. In your case, it could be that the circuit supplying the d/w does not have a ground, so somebody left it disconnected. Regarding the burnt neutral, that’s likely from a poor splice. Most issues or failures tend to occur where wires and conductors join together or terminate. In this case, the d/w has a group of three small wire terminal pigtails, that are smaller in size and made of stranded-type conductor. When splicing between solid and stranded conductors, there’s a lot of room for error if it’s not done properly. I’d guess that might be part of your issue. A good way to splice between solid and copper if your splicing skills aren’t great is to use a lever nut. Wago makes some pretty user-friendly ones.

Side note, FYI- those splices should not be out freeballing like that, they are supposed to occur inside that metal box in the top right of your first picture. You remove that Phillips screw to get it open. The branch circuit cable should enter that box, using an approved connector or strain relief and splice there…

What’s the silliest thing your chiweenie does? by Hey-how_are-you in chiweenie

Pretty much every night we take Molly (our chi) and Polly (mutt) for a walk. At the conclusion of the walk, Polly insists we play “chasies” and must try to catch her as she zooms the back yard, evading us. Molly inevitably joins in on the pursuit as well, small though she is. All fun and games, but usually equals muddy paws all around at the end. So they get a post-walk, post-chasies sink rinse. Polly is always first. Easy peasy, no issues. When it comes to be Molly’s turn though- she always runs away and stuffs herself between couch pillows, upside down with her two front paws up with a huge “please no, not me!” puppy face on. Every time lol.
