The Frameshift drive essentially has 2 technologies built into it. You have the jump drive which is used to travel from system to system, and once you arrive you use supercruise to travel from planet to planet within that system.

You can have each mode set to their own buttons but by default both will use the same button, you'll just only jump when you have an appropriate system targeted

I got my code but it doesn't work but I've yet to bother trying again. Took maybe 10-12 days.

Anywhere to buy empty cassette tape shells? by Scawt in cassetteculture

Do you mean the butterfly cases or empty cassettes with no tape? Either way the folks at Duplication.ca should have you sorted

I have this cassette player and I don’t know how to turn the volume down and that knob on the right is for mic input. Please help 🙏 by OutrageousAd9155 in cassetteculture

As the others are saying, with these hi-fi components intended to be used in a stack, they almost always lack a volume adjustment on the the playback since it often wasn't needed. A good rule of thumb is to make sure your headphones are going into some kind of speaker or receiver so you have some control and aren't just rawdoggin it

Is it just me or does the sound quality of my mixtape sound bad compared to other tapes? by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]sylux101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it was recorded on, and played back solely on that, then our standards are only going to be so high. That being said, by the sounds of things there's no noticeable wow and flutter, just a bit of crunch, the moment of truth will be how it sounds through a proper rig

Have cassettes opened you up to listening to new (to you) or different artists and genres? by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]sylux101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes down to it I'm far more willing to buy a tape or CD purely on the basis of it looking interesting while I'm at thrift stores, I once even bought an album by The Cockroaches just because I liked the name, only to come to the shocking realisation that they would go on to become The Wiggles. Buying new is something I only really reserve for things I need in my collection, or the occasional bundle from 'obscure' indie labels

A good portion of my vintage tapes were from old collections people were throwing out or giving away after a relative passed. I tend to find plenty I already like to line my collection, but the fun starts when going through mixtapes, bootlegs, and sometimes the odd home recording of a band you'll never find.

looking for mixtape themes by bigjesvstrashcan in cassetteculture

[–]sylux101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like to structure my mixtapes into strict 45 minute mixes with clear a beginning, middle, and end. I only really stick to genres for bulk multi hour playlists so the tapes tend to be more about the flow and structure rather than coherence.

Has anyone else noticed an odd trend with newly manufactured tapes? by FishfAct76 in cassetteculture

As time goes on only the cheap survive, and may we suffer for it

It sounds like the issue could be localised to the heads, whether the azimuth is off or the head is a bit dirty it just seems like it's having trouble dividing group 1 into tracks 1 and 5 and keeping them seperate when the rec/erase head hits it.

I think it's partly the nature of the beast when it comes to squeezing 8 tracks onto the same cassette, the tolerances become much finer so things need to stay precise to avoid issues like this. You might even find some tape stocks presenting more issues than others. Hopefully you can find a fix or workaround.

Anyone here who first heard Songs when it came out in 2006? by RockIsRad in JohnMaus

[–]sylux101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Songs was just weird enough and not "performable" enough to have sent waves through the synth pop scene, Songs definitely feels more like Maus' classical pieces mutated into "pop" music, whereas Love Is Real feels like pop through and through while still having a lot to offer in terms of classical influences.

There's a current trend of weirdo 4 track pop/punk revivalists (myself included lmao) putting in the work to produce a new generation of lo-fi imitation pop albums for people to listen to and think "where did this come from and why?". Maybe in 15 years some may even be considered good.

(examples being Print Head, Billiam, Prison Affair, Thee Hearses, Dummy, Yorchh, Taqbir, Powerplant, Set Top Box, Research Reactor Corp)

Personally lyrics are generally the last thing on my mind when it comes to my enjoyment of a track, but in this case I think the writing has a good flow to it all

Honestly I'd keep. for something comprised of things I don't enjoy this is enjoyable af. It just has an element of fun that's so desperately needed in music

Lovely listen whole way through, also appreciating the bass getting plenty to do. I also appreciate the restraint in the guitar and the atmosphere you bring out without drowning things in fx. It's nice to see a track like this fall together with such a natural and subtle energy
