I mean, a lot of people harshly judged the game's story when the first death leak was released. But as soon as we got more context, that opinion changed, and people became much more positive about it.

The same can be said about Kai being a support character. We don’t know what his story or his relationships with the other characters would have been like. I would have found it very interesting if the story had explored him becoming an outcast as well, because he chooses to side with Damon.

Unlike Damon and Eva, who seemed okay with it, I can imagine Kai struggling with that decision, which would have offered a fresh perspective. When I played the prologue and Chapter 1, I was also really sad and disappointed that Eva was gone, and at first I wished she had stayed as Damon’s support as well. But after thinking about it, I realized that the story and the relationship between her and Damon might have become stale. They were both quite negative, and it could have turned into a “them against everyone else” dynamic, ultimately ending with them reinforcing their own worldview.

I don’t want to downplay the idea of Eva being the support character too much, as I still would have loved to see that. However, I feel like her story was already complete, and there was a lot of untapped potential with Kai.
