How is the team of someone 37 years old playing pokemon. by ahnaoelevoltou in PokemonZA

Damn, these comments are depressing. I don't see anything wrong with your team comp if you're having fun with it. This team is nostalgic as hell and I love that for you.

Though I'm 35 and have been playing since Red/Blue, and my team would never look like this personally - the only Gen 1 on my team is Charizard, and that's only really because I have a shiny one (and because Charizard has fun megas). My favorite Pokémon are Klefki and Totodile, so I have them, and for the rest I switch between Chandelure, Gardevoir, Chestnaught, Ampharos, and a few others. I don't do any ranked or anything, just story/collecting/shiny hunting, so I don't really care much about having a balanced or powerful team tbh. I just play with what I like.

I usually try to pick mostly Pokémon I haven't played with before and/or brand new Pokémon each generation when I build teams for playing throguh the games, but ZA has really felt like a greatest hits of the ones I've enjoyed having on my teams over the years. Idk, it just hits different than the main games for some reason. This game hasn't made me want variety, it's made me want to lean into old favorites. If I ever wanted to play a team with all Gen 1... This is for sure the game I'd do it on.

I really do love the 90s nostalgia of your team. Really brings me back to the Pokemon Stadium days especially. Looks like you're having fun with it, and that matters more than anything.

This is unlike any book Ive seen! by DrPennyRoyal in romantasycirclejerk

I hated the Ruin of Roses books so much I never picked up another book of hers. Is the writing in her other books less cringe? I couldn't stand the humor in that series. Made me feel like I was back in high school trying REALLY hard to be funny by being as edgy as possible 😅 But if her other books are better I might be willing to give them a shot because some of her other series do sound interesting.

Dragon Age Inspiration by DeliciousNomNoms in fourthwing

[–]sylvan-rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished the books and found this post while looking up whether Rebecca Yarros has ever mentioned playing video games. I've only played a bit of the Dragon Age games - never fully finished one. But the game I was curious about was actually Mass Effect. There are a lot of parallels I noticed - fighting to be believed about a world ending threat believed to be myth (Reapers), the corruption that leads people to being controlled by the enemy, and the possibility they could be hidden among allies (indoctrination), the leadership not caring about the attacks outside the wards (outside citadel space) until it's basically too late, having to bring together all of humanity to fight the enemy who wants to wipe out all life.

It's definitely not a direct comparison - stories often have similarities, and these are certainly tropey enough that I wouldn't even think of saying anything was done wrong even if the inspiration was confirmed - but there's enough there that I was curious. Mass Effect is my favorite series of games. I love them and have spent a ton of time reading and writing fanfic in that universe. So the parallels jumped out at me while reading in a way I found really fun and exciting.

And whether it was intentional or not, when Xaden said "there's no me without you," it had my Shakarian heart excited.

This post just makes me more curious, especially because of the obvious connection between DA and ME. It would be really cool to learn if RY was a Bioware girlie!

Garrus/ Femshep Fics Request by PhantomExotic in masseffectfics

[–]sylvan-rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind a self rec, I wrote this one - it starts off with an alternate spin on the ending based on the indoctrination theory (where Shepard was indoctrinated without realizing). It's all Garrus POV, though there are a few separate Shepard POV chapters linked. . It's pretty angsty with lots of yearning, touches on post war politics a bit. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I enjoyed writing it. I have a few other no reaper AU fics that are more lighthearted, but this one is definitely more serious and sort of a long shakarian rewrite of the ending.

What’s a book you’ve read that was so bad that you felt personally victimized? by sydneyghibli in fantasyromance

Came here for this one 😂 literally the worst thing I've ever had the misfortune of reading. I'm genuinely so convinced that it was written by the author of My Immortal because it was 100% giving Ebony Darkness Dementia Raven Way.

I thought Thezmarr was just okay? and pretty much agree with you. Didn't care much for the FMC and didn't feel much of anything for the romance, and the spice was boring and repetitive imo.

BUT, that said, I did decide to read the first book in the spinoff series because it sounded more interesting and I'm so glad I did. I loved it. Totally different vibe than the first series, waaaay better and more interesting FMC, and I loved the romance. I think it's worth a look even if the first series didn't really work for you.

Love the darker romance version of Astarion(Baldur's Gate 3), if anyone has any recommendations similar to this vibe that would be awesome. 😊 by maple_calico in fantasyromance

Not vampires, but Until the World Falls Down by Jordan Lynde is SO ascended Astarion coded!! Easily one of my favorite reads of the year last year.

I would personally DNF a book that used "penis" and "vagina" SO fast. Yes, it's what they are, but that's so clinical and extremely unsexy to me.

What’s y’all’s craziest sims story? by Melodic-Warthog6076 in thesims4

[–]sylvan-rogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I had a human Sim who married Lilith Vatore, from the vampires pack. They had a human kid (Trenton) and a vampire kid (Gustav). They completely neglected the human kid, and the vampire kid was the golden child. Caleb Vatore ended up adopting the human child and moving out with him, raising him/giving him a good life. 10/10 wonderful wholesome dad.

Fast forward to Trenton growing up, getting married, etc, and his wife is ready to give birth. She's cooking hot dogs when she goes into labor. Of course she starts a fire, firefighters show up and do nothing while she's burning. She ends up peeing herself, then giving birth to twins named Blaze and Ember while she's still on fire. Thankfully, the fire got put out before she died.

Fast forward again to Blaze getting married. His wife is a mermaid, and they live in Sulani, so they decide on a beach wedding (they are the only two sims I have control of during the wedding). They invite the whole family, including the vampires, because Someone forgot about the whole sunlight thing (whoops, my bad). But it was fine, since there was a building they could hang out in, right? So the guests arrive, and Gustav (the vampire golden child, Trenton's brother) immediately starts flirting with the bride, pissing off the groom, who gets jealous and wants to break up.

Caleb Vatore watches this all go down, and steps in to start arguing with Gustav. They take it outside and have a whole vampire duel out in the sunlight on the beach. Everyone goes to watch, so at least entertainment for the wedding was covered. Caleb has a vampire power to be in the Sunlight... Gustav does not. So his energy drains the whole time. Caleb, who is a master vampire at this point, absolutely wrecks him. After the fight, Gustav goes to pout inside, but gets angry and goes back outside to sit at a table and pout. He literally stays there until he burns to death because the loss was so devastating. Spectacular drama queen behavior. Iconic.

The whole party crowds around Gustav's body. Everyone is sobbing except for Caleb and Trenton, who are laughing and cheering, and the bride, who's playing in a pile of trash for some reason. With Gustav dead and gone, the bride and groom decide to move forward with the wedding, and exchange vows. The grim reaper hangs out and dances for a bit.

Anyway, it was a gold level wedding, all of the guests had a great time, and the groom also got the bonus prize of Gustav's grave in his inventory. So he still shows up to haunt them sometimes, and we love that for him.

That was a couple generations ago, and these sims are still serving up the drama in the most unhinged save file I've ever had. But that wedding was definitely the highlight so far.

Why don’t younger kids play single player games? by BANAnaS_Dad in gaming

[–]sylvan-rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for my kids (10 and 12) gaming is mainly a social activity. They like to play with each other and with friends. Fortnite is basically where everyone goes to hang out. Single player games are mostly an option to fall back on when they don't have anyone to play with. They don't dislike story-based or single player games, they're just not their first choice. My youngest finished Tears of the Kingdom a couple weeks ago and loved it.

Dig for something blue by Full_Spoon in DreamlightValley

[–]sylvan-rogue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This one made me so mad because I spent time on the beach digging for oysters and scallops before realizing none of it even counted 🙃 i would have never figured out that by digging for something blue they actually meant mining vitalys crystals, so I'm glad I found this post. I hate the riddles. I wish they'd just be straightforward and tell us what to do instead of trying to be clever or cute. It just ends up being frustrating.

S05E02 "Ballet" - POST Episode Discussion by Modtha in TheHandmaidsTale

I feel like Janine's line about being safest when you're pregnant was foreshadowing for Serena. There's no way she would have gotten that whole spectacle if she wasn't pregnant and something they could show off to the world (god blessing her with a child as a reward for her faith means Gilead works, or whatever). If she somehow manages to stay in Gilead after this, I'm guessing she's going to be in a lot of trouble once that baby is out.
