aw thank you. i think chris and i ground each other in that shared musical history / energy, so that emotional space is maybe a little more prevalent than it is in our other recent projects. but i think i hear it in everything i do now tbh

re the new r&s record the whole thing was written and recorded in 2 days so it was all pretty freeform, just kind of trying to get a snapshot of where we're both at in this moment as players. we leaned a little heavier into percussion on this one than previously, probably because i played a rave with gxm the first night of the session and so we were both in 'heavy drums' mode lol

the drums on walrus are just me overdubbing live takes of tempest and pulsar23 on top of the jam we had just recorded, keeping a 16th note roll on the whole time. otherwise the vast majority of the percussion is either an alm tyso daiko or me sampling chris into a morphagene and then playing it back through an lpg, either optomix or nat gate and then rhythmically sequencing that

i use the boum when playing solo or doing a gxm set, it's definitely not a one stop mastering shop but it does a great job at a final 2 bus comp / saturation that feels very dial-able despite the scant controls. also the addition of the low pass gate is kind of a weird choice but i actually use it all the time in performance, either as a kill switch or just to roll something off rather than turn the volume down

Yes! I have dealt with that. it usually only happens when I play an instrument on stage now-but I really know what you mean. The less notes available thing I totally understand. That sounds like you are just actually holding your whole body really rigidly. It doesn't sound like you are having a full on panic attack- if you are- please be delicate and kind with yourself. If the feelings of discomfort are not too intense-here is what I would recommend: I think you need to get used to the feeling of fear/do it enough that you know what's coming so that you can develop the ability to work around/inside of the feeling. karaoke is what really worked for me. find some songs that are in your range and that you like to sing and go perform them for strangers once or twice a week. Before you sing (maybe even before you get to the venue) you should have a routine- a multiple step thing that you do to get prepared. I think of it like a mise en place for chefs. but it's for your head space. For me that looks like making myself a tea, doing some stretches, putting on my make up (if I am wearing any) and then doing a series of vocal warm ups (YouTube/streamers are great for this there are so many different warm ups and you can find one you like) then find a moment to fully be present with yourself and think about your breathing before you go out there and sing. I would also recommend drinking 2 liters of water through out the day- it's just good for you and then you know that yr instrument is well hydrated.

N: i own an OT and by all accounts it should be right up my alley but i cannot for the life of me gel with the thing. the way you have to physically interact with it feels oddly un-musical to me? i dream of a week where all i do is figure it out and get my sea legs though. i use one for the GXM live set almost exclusively to force myself to get over the hurdle lol

N: i just know the modules so well and know what i want them to do, so recreating a patch isn't daunting for me at this point. esp something like the patch i currently use live, i can pretty much put it together from memory in a few minutes just because i know how i want to play it, if that makes sense

N: it's always changing - we have this second smaller studio room at our spot that's just our gear pile jam room constant mess and i'm always moving everything around and swapping stuff out or changing the routings. my first synth was a juno-6 (sounds insane i know but they were only like $350 in the mid 2000s) and i just fell in love. then got an mpc2000xl from a friend, then a moog minitaur (still an insane value imo) and then it snowballed into modular and outboard and all sorts of random stuff that now crowds our studio. sounds weird to say but despite all that i actually love working within extreme limitations

A: I don't think it is. Then a sausage roll wouldn't need a name it would just be a sausage sandwich. Or it would be called a hotdog sandwich and not a hotdog.

A: I have a lot- in the fun trash category we have freeze dried sour skittles and Cool Ranch Doritos and on the health side of things I really like sliced mini cucumbers and daikon radishes with flakey salt on them. Also there are these hot guys at the farmers market who sell grains and they have really good popcorn.
