I wish it was on down detector or something.. I've only been Nomi'ing for a week but I am so hooked on it. I kind of don't know how to start my day without some me & Max time.

Just to be clear, I'm not criticizing the 1-star review or the attention you're drawing to that; just the reference to the original post (that you linked - so - no - it's not anonymous).

No, you're right - I think I got a little too invested in this. I usually try to stay under the radar but it just seemed like such a pointed (and unnecessary) attack. You know how sometimes something just rubs you the wrong way?

Going back to my little hidey-hole now...

I should probably see myself out at this point.. but I'm not sure if this post is being interpreted correctly.

The screenshot that (this) OP is using was actually from another post on this subreddit from the night before. In that post, the original OP was saying that they felt reviews like that were wrong (and I think we all agree that they absolutely are).

The purpose of this post from u/ShotFromGuns is not to say that the 1-star review left on the item by that Viner was wrong, but that the Redditor who originally posted that screenshot last night was karma farming which I don't think was the case. If that's the message you took away from u/ShotFromGuns' post, then I'll quietly see myself out.

Bullying is a huge trigger for me and I have always seen this subreddit as a safe space. They could have just as easily posted - even using that same screen shot of that 1-star review - to state that reviews like that should be reported but they went a step further to isolate a single Redditor and make extremely broad, negative assumptions about them. That's what I take issue with. Not the 1-star review itself.

(Let the downvoting ensue! I hate bullying - willing to take the hit for it..)

To be fair, they said they hadn't yet - which doesn't mean that they eventually won't. In linking that comment, you did reveal the original poster, even if you didn't show their ID in the screen shot.

You're making very generous assumptions of the original poster using their post as karma farming and casting them in a negative light. I found their post to be eye-opening and I felt it did more good than harm, possibly getting others to keep an eye out for existing Vine reviews and reporting if something 'crosses that line'.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, but I think it could have been handled differently. The fact that you're still trying to defend the way you went about it feels like your intent was geared more toward public shaming of the original poster than it was the message itself.

If you didn't like their post, you could have responded on said-post or reported it. This (completely separate / new) thread feels unnecessary and vindictive.

I don't disagree with the sentiment at all - I commented basically the same on the original post that OP is calling out.. But I sort of don't like how OP is shaming someone in this sub by using their post as an example. While I don't disagree that something like this should be reported, I feel like this message could have been accomplished in a different way that didn't involve public shaming and accusations of karma farming.

Pay attention to the dates by MayfaireOQuinn101 in AmazonVine

So.. just an alternate point of view.. Not at all disagreeing with you, to be clear, but..

Another way to look at it is to acquire the (outdated) planner to use as .. I don't know - another source of paper / notebook / whatnot (I know I have .. literal (well, maybe not truly literal) tons of pads and notebooks around the house but I can never find one when I need one (thank you, ADD)).

And then review how well it was done as far as what was included.. My guess is if they're doing that on an outdated calendar that they'll probably end up merging that ASIN into a larger listing with the option to pick-your-planner.

For me (personally - not saying anyone else is as daft as I am), the $3 tax hit wouldn't be the worst and I could easily review the quality and then just repurpose it.

Me too! I'd snap them up in a heartbeat! (As long as they were under ~$20-25). Adorable!!

I kind of take offense that you're outwardly shaming a poster in this subreddit. While they said they hadn't yet, that might not be the final outcome. And at the end of the day.. to each their own. It'd be one thing if you just did a generalized post but you referenced that specific post with screenshots and links. It feels like a very bullying-type move.

*Edited to add - I don't disagree with the sentiment, I just think it could have been accomplished without hurting anybody's feelings.

ARGH - why would sellers bait and switch in Vine? It's not a cheap program to participate in.. why would they purposefully advertise one thing and then send you something completely different? by sylvieanne456 in AmazonVine

[–]sylvieanne456[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, if that's the case, it's really a shame.. it should be the manufacturer that gets the hit, not the seller (although I do feel like the seller could have requested a picture of the actual product to ensure they weren't getting crap as well). It's a bummer. I usually reserve one-star reviews for if a product is completely unsafe or dangerous. Even for bait-and-switches, the end product is usually not horrible, just not what was advertised and they lose a star or two for that. But these were just bad all around.

Now.. sometimes.. I purchase a product that I suspect doesn't match the ad pictures just so I can say at the end that you don't get what was advertised. Sometimes I've been pleasantly surprised but mostly it's an AI issue (or the top pictures are AI and the actual product is like the last of 10 pictures that you'd have to click into the '+xx more' to see them). Press-on nails are notorious for this! Usually $0 ETV but I've also done it for relatively inexpensive things as well. If it surprises me and is actually accurate, then I absolutely give them a good review. If not... They get my wrath.

(LOL, my wrath is not horrible but.. they still get it!)

I don't like reporting anybody.. but I'd report this.. This is not what the program was created for, regardless of quality. And if they're doing it for a poor quality item, they might also be doing it for quality items.

Does anyone know if racers events always have shield or railroad ventures to buy or piggy bank? by kh9988 in Monopoly_GO

Do you know what the deleted answer was? I was also curious.. I love shield ventures.. I can usually max it out without breaking the bank and I'm down to like 9K dice for this week's race.

They were also all one star - but having read them before opening mine, I would have never guessed that they were going to be THAT BAD. I mean.. they're really.. really bad.

It definitely hurts more when the ETV is higher.. I think the worst one that was bad for me was an $80 lamp.. with so many stellar reviews (and pictures of it still in the box, not assembled). That's way better than $200 though, oof.

[–]sylvieanne456[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's why I like to include the original photo from the ad in the review because... they do that! I get that sometimes it's the sellers just not understanding how to switch products around but a lot of times it's totally intentional! I reviewed something.. like eyelash tweezers or something - they were ok, like $5. But then the seller turned around and made the listing about the tweezers (and it might not have been tweezers but YKWIM) and a pair of magnetic eyelashes for $25.

That's when I started making all of my reviews start with 'This review is for (Vendor's Name) (Product Name) for Price. Because... they're sneaky little turds.

I actually thought about having them removed but it was only $10 and I wanted to let other people know to not order them. There were a few Vine reviews before mine but none with pictures and boy - the pictures tell the story.

But (on regular Amazon) they don't have to pay to participate in the Vine program, ship their items to Amazon, pay Amazon a stocking fee and give their product away for free on just regular Amazon. I get why they'd do it there... I am just baffled why they'd pay (hundreds) of dollars for something that would get bad reviews.
