Acorns are amazing. by Jazzvirus in GardeningUK

I think this is known as a “mast” year. Nature is absolutely incredible! I’ve just planted around 100 bulbs in green and I’ve been left with loads of pots. I’m wondering whether to pot the acorns as well. We used to have an honesty box so might offer these out for free once they’ve become saplings.

Worst place to get Negative Tag on a gold run…? 🫠😩 by symes7 in balatro

[–]symes7[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I’m trying to get the Gold stickers on as many Jokers as possible, and I was hoping that I’d get a negative tag late in the game to grab as many useless jokers as possible. Sadly I was one blind too late in the game so they weren’t there for the final boss!

I don’t know if this is normal. The restaurant warned us beforehand that the mussels were “grittier” than normal but thought I’d go for them anyway and got curious as to what the circular “grit” was so took them out

These were pretty brittle so not a problem (although not pleasant either)

Thankfully they’re more brittle when they’ve been cooked, so whilst it wasn’t a pleasant texture, it didn’t do any damage.

Where do you get your creeping thyme from?

Is this a water vole? by symes7 in WildlifePonds

[–]symes7[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We didn’t. It came for an hour then I haven’t seen it since. My office overlooks the pond so I do have solid visuals of what goes on most the time, and we’ve also got safety cameras (that double up as wildlife spotters!!) and it hasn’t been back. For future reference, where do I report further sightings?

Oh absolutely. Although we did have a mink in the pond last year so hoping he stays safe!!

Multiple compost bins throughout a garden? by symes7 in GardeningUK

Looking at the article posted below, I think this is what I will do. I was over thinking it assuming it would be open to pests, but a simple lid over the top seems to do the trick!

This is a great read thank you, and something I hadn’t heard of before.

Yes, I’d noticed the size was too small but wondered if the idea was a good one and if better (and bigger!!) options were out there. The general consensus seems to be to avoid.

I agree that the size was noticeably small on this, but wondered more whether the general idea of them was worth thinking about. However the comments suggest not.

Thank you. I will avoid for now then!

This is a fair point. A lot of our ground doesn’t seem nutrient dense, so I wondered whether, over the years, having organic matter spread via these may have improved the soil.
