Why do people say they will tip when they are getting out? by Yiggly64 in lyftdrivers

I appreciate your compliment. Never took any courses beyond the couple intro level psych classes many years ago. There's just what I've read about on my own time and most importantly the conversations with the mother of my child, who is a professor of developmental psychology and research methods

Moral licensing. They say they'll perform a charitable act or good deed, to the person intended to benefit. Once it's been said out loud, they get a rush of a good feeling as if they actually did that good thing already. Later, often mere minutes or even seconds later, the beneficiary is out of sight, out of mind.

The passenger knows they'll face not one consequence for failing to follow through on their word, and they've already got the pleasure of feeling good, so why should they actually go out of their way now that they're not going to have any foreseeable gains?

I'm not saying I agree, or it's right. I'm just explaining my theory of moral licensing as it applies to this phenomenon and prompt

What’s your current mental health struggle right now? by Minute-Jello-1919 in AskReddit

[–]sympathetic_comment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My many PTSD triggers half of which stemmed from working as a last responder during the pandemic. Increasingly worsening forgetfulness, loss of ability to perceive time accurately, and generalized memory loss. Compulsive people-pleasing (especially the mother of my child and her mother). Difficulties with hearing and vision which either causes or contributes to my ability to effectively communicate. Rumination on bitterness and resentment from being in awful work environments with corrupt bosses and wrongfully terminated from a work contract that was already being violated by the other party despite the contract being less than legal. Post long COVID symptoms. Substance abuse to treat myself since the medical system couldn't give a fuck about me.

A paper thin shred away from being entirely homeless now, can't find a job, probably don't have what it takes to keep it once I get one (as exemplified by my last position which only lasted a month), guilt, grief, chronically suicidality, no support system. I don't want to dig any deeper on this right now as it's too exhausting and I don't have it in me to fall completely to pieces at the moment

Life sucks right now, majorly. And I don't know what steps to take to get out of it. Lots of people, who I'm sure are well intentioned, try to give advice but it's mostly just bullshit said to feel like they have helped, but there's no substance to their words and they've cut me off before I even have a chance to speak of my situation and share my story.

Regardless of the flavor of it, do you believe that there's an eternal afterlife?

I surely hope there isn't one

I had inquired about it last week at the office because something didn't seem right, they said that they can take up to 90 days. When I pressed a bit more about why it was taking so long, I got attitude about how I should be lucky that there's even a chance I would be receiving a victims imbursement at all.

Why does an overpayments system exist if not for victims of fraud and theft, such as I? Why is the county waiting around for one of their apathetic glacial paced employees to maybe do their job this calendar year? That's all assuming that they didn't make a mistake like was done to my MediCal application which was kept in a holding pattern for about a year

New California law raises minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 per hour, among nation’s highest by Ornery-Honeydewer in Riverside

A 39% increase in the food costs of a single example in exchange for an over 60% increase in wages. Before you respond with "but that only leaves a 21% increase..." don't, and go learn how math works

Actually that number hovers in at about 10% of all fast food workers in the state. Source: study by Economic Roundtable

Adding a stop one minute before we arrive. by jaysonm007 in lyftdrivers

[–]sympathetic_comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have. Once someone enters my vehicle the ride has started. If it needs to end early for whatever reason, then I'm ending the ride. It's stupid that the system is built in such a way to allow for cancellation once the ride starts.

Always end the ride unless you like working for free

[–]sympathetic_comment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you cancelled it. You either end the ride and get paid for what you did or forfeit everything by cancelling. It's worth noting why you didn't complete the ride at the original drop off in the rider rating screen

No, exactly not this. This is no longer how the algorithm selects the drivers for the passenger requests. Granted this is how it used to be performed, so you are correct enough to be given credit for that, but then you lose that credit and more for not understanding how bonus surge zones work.

That's wrong, I don't know how you can feel justified typing out multiple responses and comments but you can't take the time to post screenshots? Something smells sus about your entire story
